The Sarah Choice

Now we're heading into some dark territory, but when Carver says "Killing one in order to save many is part of survival..." It made me think of a very tough and dark choice for the end of Episode Three.

Imagine everything at climax is going usually, Troy gets shot, the group starts moving through the herd and Tavia and the others are shooting. Carlos tells Sarah to calm down, and as you say the option, when he gets shot in the neck. It goes slow-motion, Clementine sees Carlos falling down, Sarah turning around slowly and her eyes widening as she sees her father fall down.

You hear Carvers words "Killing one in order to save many is part of survival..." You have to make a choice quickly, you can either use the hatchet to kill Sarah by chopping at her neck. This distracts the walkers, and stops her from screaming so the group quietly makes it through, and Sarita never gets bitten.

Or you can spare Sarah however she screams and the normal climax of Episode Three continues in which Sarah runs away, you, Bonnie, Jane and Sarita kill walkers and Sarita gets bitten and you have a choice to chop her arm off or kill the walker.

So what do you think? What choice would you make?

  • I would kill Sarah, Sarita is too damn hot to die.

  • Well...She's Kenny's girl. Therefore she must be beautiful!

  • This would be an awesome example of a choice! I would spare Sarah though :)

  • Yeah, because Katjaa was frickin' sexy.

  • I'd give her strong six.

  • But Carver's idea of "Killing one to save many" is flawed and twisted since he's insane and just likes to kill people he doesn't like. As for the Sarah question, why not just cover Sarah's mouth? No need to chop her head off o_0! I believe the original ending of Episode 3 is fine as it is anyways.

  • Good...if you would have given her a weak 5, i would have flipped. So what about this sexy Lady?

  • I would still save Sarah. In my opinion people only like Sarita because she is Kenny's girl. She has done nothing for the plot besides get bit trying to protect Sarah and Clementine. Also, 97% of her dialogue involves something to do with Kenny.

  • To be fair, I like her because she seems to try and be a "mother" to Sarah and Clementine, just the way she interacts with them and how she talks to Clementine (especially during Episode Three) makes me see her as someone who cares about them both. Much like another character associated with Kenny.

  • An interesting proposition, but Clementine's character development could not have recovered in subsequent episodes had she been able to kill Sarah for the betterment of the group. There's no way (with the exception of perhaps Jane) that the others would have accepted Clementine's reasoning; she'd have been better off remaining at Carver's fortress with Tavia et all. It's just a little too extreme and heartless to feasibly work around. Think about it, if Clementine can murder an innocent young girl to further her own survival, what's really left to explore with her coming of age story? It's assuredly as ruthless as one could ever become in order to stay alive.

I believe Sarah's fate will heavily factor in determining Clementine's change of countenance, but perhaps in a more bittersweet, sacrificial fashion.

  • What! Chopping her head off is going way to far! No matter what Clem would still not do that despite what she saw that day. Sarah's dad just died. How dare she scream! Better chop her head off! No...just no.

  • Well that's true, but no one would see it. I mean if Carlos dies, no one noticed until Sarah started screaming. So if Clementine killed Sarah...no one notices. It just seems Sarah got taken by the horde.

  • It's still far too inhumane an action for Clementine to ever turn back from. I don't think you could advance her character much further given such a choice to make, in my opinion.

  • "use the hatchet to kill Sarah by chopping at her neck" that would be too much for sarah :o

  • Far too much. She would "Cease to Function" if that happened.

  • People are willing to hate Sarah for screaming because she cried. I don't agree with that, she had every right to scream her father just died in front of her but it's just a choice people have the option to make to ensure safety.
