(In The Pines) Nirvana - Where did you sleep last night

One of the songs I find most spine chilling and emotional performed by my favourite band Nirvana. I don't know if you've seen this before, but since I basically just joined the forum I haven't seen another thread about this. It's the great piece of music that was used in the end credits of The Walking Dead Game: Season 2 Epsiode 2, seriously listen to Kurt sing this. What a great man he was.

Heres the link:

EDIT: Here's the version by Janel Drewis used in the end credits (just in case you wanted to compare the two):

Enjoy.

  • I posted this right after I played the episode, I prefer this version to the one in the credits, but the other one was better suited.

  • I thought you prefer listening Heavy Metal?

  • I listen to a lot of Heavy Metal but the Grunge scene doesn't escape me. Alice in Chains has always been one of my favorite bands, and I like Nirvana well enough. For me it's definitely Heavy Metal and then Classical though.

I thought you prefer listening Heavy Metal?

  • Nirvana!!!! Kurt Cobain Forever!!!

  • Lead Belly played the original, I think.

  • Actually, this song dates all the way back to the 1870's. Just thought I'd point that out.

  • I have to agree, when Kurt covered "Where did you sleep last night?" At the MTV Unplugged session, it was amazing.

  • I read somewhere that this song is about a man who thinks his wife is cheating, so he goes to catch her in a hurry, but gets himself killed in a car accident.

  • You know it!!!

  • I loved Kurt Cobaine, it's a shame he's passed away :'(

I'm looking for the chords right now, I wanna play this awesome song.

  • His awesome music will be treasured for generations to come :')

  • I do think Nirvana, specifically Cobain, is a great performer. But with all the horrible charlatans (posers) who "love" Nirvana these days, it's hard to stand up for them, because then I end up looking like them. Luckily the posers can't outsmart me when it comes to most anything, since the only songs they know are "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Stairway to Heaven", "Wish You Were Here", "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", and "Let It Be".

  • Some person on Twitter likes them, OBVIOUSLY your not the only fan but meh was just wondering... I listened to one of there thannngs. They where pretty shit, there like heavy metal. Rock is the shit kids. Not emo heavy metal. OPINIONISED.

    Thanks, Nirvana Buddy!

  • I live near a big city in the North of England and whenever I go their I see people wearing Nirvana T-Shirts. No joke, I was sat in McDonalds with my freind and we saw this girl wearing one. I said, "Nice T-Shirt" she smiled and said thanks but when my freind said, "Kurt Cobain was a great man" the girl actually responded with, "Who's Kurt Cobain?".

    What the actual f**k!?

I do think Nirvana, specifically Cobain, is a great performer. But with all the horrible charlatans (posers) who "love" Nirvana these days,

  • Nirvana are grunge! I have pretty mixed music taste myself.

  • What dafuq is grunge?

  • Grunge is a type of music that was huge in the 90's. But currently there exist no decent grunge bands I know of :(

It's kind of a dead music style, unfortunatly. Ahah

I think "shit" is too harsh, whatever, and it's not emo man, it's very emotional so it may sound emo, Kurt is just that type of singer.

  • Wat? I don't like heavy metal, it's emo and goth like those bastards Breaking Benjamin that scream down the microphone like kids on CoD. Rock however, is perfect.

  • Perhaps not the original, but certainly one of the most well known versions, and a version I like just as much as Nirvana's cover of it.

  • Yeah, but Nirvana isn't emo nor goth, it is classic rock.

I don't think you can call yourself "the rock master", this is music, you don't even know what grunge is.

It's not metal, it's pure grunge.

  • You're right, it's hard to tell between true fans and whores that wear a "Nirvana" t-shirt, but whatever, as long as people love their music I'm fine with it, since Kurt deserves this glory, he didn't deserve his fate though.

Grunge was inspired by a mix of classic metal bands, like Black Sabbath, and punk rock (various flavors).

Kurt's tastes, in particular, ranged from the aforementioned Sabbath to the classic rock n' roll of Led Zeppelin to early Beatles to punk like The Clash and Sex Pistols to weirder new wave stuff like Devo and Gang of Four, just to name a few.
