My biggest issue with a lot of these cosplays is that they overdo the 'Telltale lines' a bit much. It doesn't look subtle enough. The first Mary (glamoured) one gets it down pretty well, but a lot of TWAU cosplays really put too much on and it looks more like somebody scribbled on their body with black marker than trying to be a character.

The good cosplays are extremely good while the bad cosplays are terrible. It's like two extremes. That doesn't always happen.
I think that's pretty cool.
Hmmm, photo is kind of blurry, so I can't tell if this is a Photoshop job or if she is using foil wrapped around cardboard....
Your guess is as good as mine, I don't really delve into these sort of things.
