Will Kenny die in episode 4?

edited July 2014 in The Walking Dead

I just saw the new trailer, and it made my blood run cold.
To hear Kenny, and the way he described the beating he took from Carver, it sounded like he enjoyed it.
Like it was his ticket out.

That's not the Kenny I knew in season 1.
Back then, he was a determined, strong-willed man, who wouldn't give up for anything.
Now, I don't know.
Now it almost sounds like if death came his way, that he would welcome it.
I knew he had changed since season 1, but I didn't realize perhaps how much.
I figured he probably has post-traumatic-stress-disorder from losing his family, but I didn't realize it was perhaps worse than that.

And the way the trailer looked, it looked like Kenny was marching towards his final battle.
Like it was going to be his last stand, alongside Mike.
Plus I've heard rumors of a main character dying this episode.

Granted though, that doesn't mean it's Kenny who will be the one to die.
Given that Sarita could die either from her arm being severed, or from the walker bite, it could be her.
And also that Rebecca is pregnant, and could die during childbirth, like Lori did on the show, she could also bite the bullet.

And to hear Luke speak, it sounds like it could boil down to choosing either between Kenny, or Luke.
I know I'd pick Kenny every time.
Even if he should die, I'll still have Clementine fight alongside him to the end!

But now that I've had time to think about it, perhaps Kenny will keep on fighting.
If he really wanted to die, he would've committed suicide, even after he escaped the walkers, in season 1.
Remember how that woman fought to get Carly's gun at the motel?
And he could've just let himself get killed in that herd, at the end of the last episode.
So maybe his warrior spirit will return!

Although granted, whether or not he actually lives or dies is up to the writers.
Maybe it'll be like Beth Greene on the show, who had to choose to want to live, before she really started fighting again.
Maybe that's the idea for Kenny.
Just as a thought, I do not have any idea what TT has in store for him.

So will there be a choice between siding with Kenny or Luke?
Will Kenny die in the next episode?
What do you think?

  • I really hope he doesn't die, but the thought has crossed my mind several times. I definitely think it's very possible, especially this late into the game. Plot Armour for main character status can only withstand so much, it'll break eventually. For some reason, I get the feeling that Kenny won't be sad over Sarita's death, but rather really pissed off.

  • I think so.
It was sad when he "died" the first time and I imagine TellTale can make it worse this time :(

  • Well we see him trying to protect Rebecca while Luke is missing, this could mean he will definitely survive OR there might have to be a choice between Luke or Kenny, maybe Clementine can convince everyone to stay together even? :p

  • He'll probably die and come back in season 3 saying, "Well I just got lucky, real lucky."

  • He's falling apart, himself and Luke really expresses it in the trailer for Episode 4. I think he might be giving up.

What also worries me is that in the ending of the trailer Luke asks Clementine if she's ok, and she says no. I'm not sure whether this means something has happened to Kenny, or whether it to be about if she finds Sarah's corpse or something....

  • He is falling apart, but I don't think he will die in this episode. It's way too obvious, even for telltale. They are leading us down the road that Kenny will make a last stand. Yes he might, but I think he will survive as he has done so before. Sure, his luck will run out sometime, but not in this episode.

I give it a 50/50 chance of him dying this episode. My gut says he will die. But if he doesn't die this epsiode, I see no way he survives the season finale.

  • Short answer: Hopefully not.

  • No, I think having Kenny is the most intriguing storyline currently going on. . . I mean they left the camp but now what? I think if Kenny goes, it'll be in the finale. Would only make sense.

Agreed. There's a difference between "plot armour" and "narrative necessity," and in Kenny's case. it's the latter.

  • i liked the trailer is the most me cry as Kenny Carver said when he was beating so thought he was dead but then woke up again. Kenny lost his family now comes on Sarita. I think Kenny is sacrificing something in the end there because the trailer says Luke Clementine if she was okay and Clementine corresponds sadly yes

  • She says no...

  • Yeah Kenny must be cursed because literally EVERYONE he gives a shit about has died, (most of season 1 group), Katjaa, Duck, even Ben once he started feeling bad for him, Lee, Matthew, Walter, and now Sarita. Only Clem has survived lol

But here's a question, "Why would the writers, after supposedly killing him in season 1, bring him back, just to kill him in season 2?"
Does that make any sense to you?

  • Maybe they wanted to establish a character that Clem knew and was close to and also because they wanted to cause tension between him and the new group that Clem met to try to force Clem to pick a side. Just because they bring back a supposedly killed off character doesn't mean he has immunity.

    Good point.
I have a question for you.
I asked it of another person who posted on here, but I would like to hear your thoughts on it as well.

And the question is, "Why would the writers, after allegedly killing him in season 1, bring him back, just to kill him off in season 2?"
Does that make any sense to you?

It seems to me, they brought Kenny back for a reason.
If they really wanted to kill him off, why not just do it in the 1st season?
As far as Main characters dying in season 2, particularly those from season 1, we already have Omid, and possibly Christa.
Why add Kenny to the list as well?

On the tv show, for example, you've got Rick, Carl, Daryl, and Carroll, who are still around from the 1st season.
Despite the close calls, and all the trials they've gone through.
And from what I've heard about the comics, I've never read them personally, some of the original characters still remain.
Since both the comics, and the show have a few of the original characters on them, why wouldn't the videogame follow the same flow in that respect?

Besides, it would make sense, as these characters have history with the original fans.
They have developed a love for the original characters.
And by having a few of the original characters remaining, it gives the veteran fans something to look forward to.
And it gives them something to relate to.

He is falling apart, but I don't think he will die in this episode. It's way too obvious, even for telltale. They are leading us down the ro

  • I think he's safe in episode 4 because he's a very big character his death would be in the season finale but I realy hope he wont die at all.

  • I know not everyone likes Kenny (i do) but i think if he dies in ep4, some people will lose interest for ep5 unless something big happens for a cliffhanger

  • telltale wont kill him off 2 eps later if he will die it will be ep5

  • Yea, that makes perfect sense. . .
