Rebecca's character and her relationship with Clem

edited July 2014 in The Walking Dead

I just want to say that there have been few characters in anything where I strongly disliked them upon first meeting, but then end up loving them by the time I say goodbye. Rebecca is one of those characters, and her relationship with Clementine throughout has been nice.

Rebecca to Clementine, "We sure have come a long way since we first met, huh?"

Indeed we have. From wanting to put Clem down in the shed to letting Clem hold her baby and saying that she's family, Rebecca really changed my opinion of her from when we first met her. I'm really sad the way things turned out.

  • Really? No one wants to talk about Rebecca with me? :(

I think Rebecca may have been one of the best characters this season in my opinion

  • I tottttallly agree.. I was sassy as hell when we first met, but.. I soon changed my mind about her. Damn shame she's gone... At least I took care of her fast.

  • It was the first death of the season that really got to me :( i hope the baby survives but it seems unlikely.

  • I think she was too.. Mike might have the second place too :)

  • All of the major deaths have gotten to me, but Rebecca's was really heartbreaking. I really wanted her to pull through and be an awesome mom to that baby. :(

  • So, did anyone else here change their opinion about Rebecca as the season went on? This was basically me with Rebecca.

First episode I was all: "Geez, why do you have to be so mean?"

Second episode: "Oh, you're just under a lot of stress because of the whole Carver thing. I got ya, gonna cut you some slack. You're okay."

Third episode: "You are pretty awesome. I'm sorry about Alvin. Gonna do my best to keep you safe."

Fourth episode: "Don't worry, I won't leave you. You'll be okay. Please be okay!........The baby is so cute! Let me hold him and be an awesome big sister! What, I'm family to you now? Thanks, you're family to me too......Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! Why?!"

Yup, that's me and Rebecca summed up this season.

I loved that scene where Rebecca was panicking because she couldn't find any of her group members in the herd. She looks so grateful and relieved when Clementine tells her that they'll stick together through it and that she'll be okay.

Oddly, she was one of the three characters I liked the most in this episode. Of course they'll take her away just as I start liking her.

  • I thought it was cute when Clem held the baby and Rebecca tells her she's a part of the family now. It was a sweet moment. :)

With Rebecca's character, I didn't really like her at the start, and then in episode 2 I started to sympathize with her character some more, and episode 3 I felt really bad for her with her situation. This episode did make me like her more though. You got to feel for her after losing Alvin and then being afraid of being a mother, and then she has some nice moments with Clem like finding her in the herd, talking to her about Alvin, and then letting her hold the baby. I think she probably got the best character development this episode.

  • Me too, I loved that part in the beginning. When Kenny and Luke both ran off and left Clem, she looked so scared and alone. I was relieved when Rebecca found her. Sure, I was still scared as fuck, but I was happy to not be alone. Totally was reassuring Rebecca throughout the whole thing.

Rebecca's character development was great this episode. I still wish she hadn't died though.

Episode 1: Wanted to punch the fetus out of her when i first met....wanted her to die.

Episode 2: Why she comforting me?...might as well go along with it

Episode 3: Felt bad for her....and husband

Episode 4: 100% would support her anytime...

  • Complete 180, right? Good job TellTale, good job. Still upset that you killed her off though.

  • Bump, because Rebecca needs more love. She was an awesome character.

  • Well, Jane didn't really die... but yeah I see your point. To be fair, they had their first entirely girl scene with more than two people in the entire game; When Clem, Rebecca and Jane were all together.

  • I really liked Rebecca, but to be honest...I didn't feel that whole 'you're family' thing. We didn't see enough meaningful interactions between them for me to believe that their relationship is that strong.

Seriously, if they'd cut a few Kenny or Luke scenes and let Clementine bond with Rebecca instead, that whole after-birth moment would have been a lot more believable.

  • she was like a second mom at the end

  • I'll be honest, I liked her even when she was mean in the first episode. I figured she was under stress because of her pregnancy and maybe I should give her some time. I liked her even more as the series went on. She was compassionate, she was smart, and LBH, there weren't really many characters like that in the series. I'm gonna miss her. ;___;

  • Yeah, Jane didn't die, but I don't expect to see her ever again. You're right, we did have a lot of scenes with only girls this episode! I didn't notice that.

  • I was always pretty much Rebecca's #1 defender since EP1. Used to make threads and stuff. I knew she had a reason to be acting like that in EP1.

Glad I was right. I knew she was a good person.

  • Hmm, I thought they had some meaningful interactions.

Ep2 Rebecca apologizes to Clem, confides to her about the baby's father and lets her listen to the baby kicking.

Ep3 You can talk to Rebecca and comfort her about Alvin when you're first thrown in the pen, and how Rebecca sort of guides Clem through the plan to attract the herd to the hardware store.

Ep4 The way they stuck together in the herd and every conversation between them in this episode. For me, the "You're family" line was definitely earned. Differing opinions I guess.

But yeah, definitely agree that they could have cut back on some Kenny scenes in order to develop Rebecca and other characters before, you know, they died.

    Rebecca and Lee.
Makeshift Apocalypse Mom and Dad for Clem.

  • Yeah, it stung me in the heart when she called Clem family when she was holding the baby. They really could have had a post-apocalypse adoptive daugther/mother thing going on. This sucks so much :[

  • People tend to jump to rash conclusions. I never picked any of the sassy choices with her because I understood why she was scared. Then she came around, and after all of the hatred I saw on this forum it pretty much all vanished. Then the same happened with Bonnie. It's amusing to watch the drastic shifts this forum undergoes I must say.

  • Loved her character when she first came out and wasn't disappointed. Rebecca was the only character i felt that had real motive for her behavior and a real Difficult decision-wise dilemma on top of surviving that the others didn't really have.

  • We're kind of bi-polar concerning characters in TWD. One moment we hate them, the next we love them.

Watch, next episode we'll love Luke and Kenny again after hating them in this episode.

  • 2 things. That baby sure looked light skinned and How did she actually Die? Was she bitten? The walk killed her?

  • I think we all know by now that Carver is the father, biologically, but in my heart Alvin is the father.

Rebecca wasn't bitten. The birth was just too much for her and the circumstances(lack of food and supplies, the snow, the threat of walkers around them) they were in didn't help. And they didn't have Carlos with them. Her body just kind of gave out.

  • Giving birth is EXTREMELY stressful on a woman's body. She was also probably starving and hasn't eaten since they left Carver's camp. Also add that they probably haven't slept well either.
Another thing is, Giving birth probably dehydrated her alot, she was freezing cold and was prone to infection since birth is a bloody and messy ordeal. exhaustion, infection, and exposure, tbh it would be incredibly unrealistic for her to survive unless they had meds or food.

At first glance I thought it was Carver's baby, but after the lighting changed it honestly just reminded me of Alvin.

  • I actually thought Rebecca might die when I saw her getting weaker.... but I was still shocked and extremely sad when it happened.

  • I love her character... I hate her at first time... in episode 2 I understand why she was so mean in episode 1... in episode 3 and 4 she became one of my favorites characters of this season... In memorial of Rebecca
