Why is everybody pissing on this episode...

This might come from first playing, but it's better than 1 and better than 3. There's the b plot with Sarah, and one with Jane, the one with Kenny, and the one with the Baby. Then there was the tension between survivialism a la Jane and the preaccostumed socialization and altruism. The episode was, like the characters, trying to recover from Episode 3; where one of the most compelling and complex villians was turned into a hotheaded maniaciac preacher of social darwinism.

I think Sarita got nixed too irrelevant of what we did, and Nick felt both thrown in there to get rid of a determinant and trying for feels (which I didn't feel because I knew he was going to die, he's a determinant)

You're free to disagree, but given all the subplots going through the narrative, the fact that they were left with a complete collapse of storyline (in that E3 tied the storyline off - unlike S1 which had a constantly evolving storyline - no clear lasting antagonist etc. So given where it was coming from I'd say S2E4 did a pretty good job.

  • A wise man once said "haters gonna hate".

  • This was my favorite episode. The only people complaining are the people who complain about length and people who are upset the episode 4 slide isn't in the episode.(I told them before the screens are to show the characters feelings. They are usually not in the episode itself)

  • I agree I don't understand the haters
but their constant whining is annoying me

  • IMO this was the best of season 2, anyone who complains about episode 4 are just nitpickers this episode was the closest we got to season 1.

  • I thought this episode was excellent. There were a lot of character interaction between the characters which is balanced with good objectives. Clem gets a lot of character development through Jane's teachings.

  • I just looked and most review sites agree that this is the best episode yet.

  • Players are already hating on it? I hadn't realized, I've heard nothing but good things about this episode.

    Double post.

  • Everyone was thinking eddie would show up because of the title card :D i think is pretty stupid to slam the episode just for that.

  • Play it a second time with completely other choices and you will see that there is no change in the story, not a single one. Im pissed off a little bit. In general I like episode 4, but I played it a second time after I finished my first save and I was shocked that there is no difference. Especially in the end its just a shame that its the exact same story with the exact same dialogues, that pisses me off.

Play it a second time with different choices and you´ll see why its the worst episode in general.

  • People are just overly cynical. The episode was great, long and had great character development. I really don't see what there is to hate aside from the banner being b/s and Nick's death being rather cheap.

I only hated the zombie Nick part, so far, that was the worst example of killing off a character in this series, even Brie and those bandits had better send offs!

  • Yeah... That was a bummer... Where did the 500 days characters go...

  • This was the strongest episode of the season in my opinion. I was surprised to see so many people disliking it, although it does seem like most of the dislike stems from people being upset that what they expected to happen didn't actually happen.

  • The lenght was pretty decent this time around. For me personally the episode would have been perfect if clem have talked about christa and her baby. As for nick he is determinant and that never turns out good, even in season 1. It was sad to see sarah go,but it came full circle with what carlos said that she would cease to function. Just try to enjoy it for what it is.

  • Yes, I hoped for a different ending when I play it with my second save file and completely other choices, but there was not a single one(ok there was exactly 1 little difference but I won´t spoil this) and even the story did not fit with these choices.

I'm actually fucking tired of people complaining about everything. The thing seems to be that whatever Telltale does people are never pleased about that. There always has to be something to complain about. I think this episode was great, I think it was the best episode so far, but still people need something to complain about. I remember how the old community was. People were happy about what Telltale did and didn't complain. People were having fun. But the new community is just a fucking mess. You need to complain about everything. "Hey the Russian's started firing when I shot Rebecca, What the fuck Telltale?" Chill out people, we could still be like the old community. There are too much people pressuring Telltale.

  • Since when is that a new thing? We're only ever given the illusion of choice. The Telltale games are more like interactive TV shows than you actually shaping the narrative.

IMO this episode wasn't that good. The way Nick died was almost as if he wasn't an important character. I'm extremely pissed at how Rebecca died but I figured she was going to die after she had the baby. The way her face looked it just had death written all over it. Also poor Sarah :'( . That was beyond screwed up. I'm sure anyone who helped Sarah survive until Rebecca gave birth would agree. I know she would have held the group back so telltale had to kill her off. I like the fact that after you help Sarah and Luke escape from the trailor home, if thats what you did, telltale gives you a hint that you didn't actually save Sarah but denied the inevitable. However, that's honestly what ruined this episode for me. No matter what I did, I tried everything, I just could not save Sarah.

That's why Telltale is able to create outstanding storylines because of constructive criticism. And maybe the criticism in this comment section might not be very constructive but it's still criticism none the less. Before you bitch about people complaining ever again all ways remember that artist are nothing without criticism. I would know because I'm an artist. Also to help you cope with complaints you WILL see for episode 5, and hopefully future episodes, I want you to understand that no matter what telltale does people will ALWAYS complain because there will in fact ALWAYS be some thing to complain about.

  • I'm not very nitpicky with this episode, and i overall thought it was good.

  • "Whatever Telltale does"? They keep doing the same things (no option to actually start a conversation with someone, determinant handling is ass, the only effect your choices have is a line of dialog immediately following, etc.), so we give the same complaints. If Telltale doesn't like these complaints, they may want to actually address them.

  • I just rolled my eyes when I found Nick as a walker. Way to subvert expectations about the survivability of determinant characters, Telltale. Sarah gets to be both determinant and dead in the exact same episode, with scarcely any different dialogue in-between.

I get the distinct sense this time around Telltale is operating on a much smaller budget in both time and money, despite the enormous success of Season 1. They can't even be bothered to make believe your choices matter anymore.

  • yes that's why im pissed off. "EDDIE! confirmed" first of all he was never confirm, second who cares, Is one character that wasn't even t=in the original game. now the disappointment about christa is understandable, but it aint over yet.

  • I think that this was overwhelmingly the best episode of season 2 and one of the best of the series.

Until this point, I have had one consistent complaint about S2 - the complete absence of main character development and interaction. The writing was good and the pacing was on-point, but generally, we weren't given any reason to care about the NPCs, so their deaths fell flat. Was anyone honestly affected by Carlos' or Pete's death? There were no hub areas to explore, no conversation strings during "down-time" with NPCs, etc. It wasn't perfect, and it certainly didn't match the masterpiece that was S1E3, but they definitely improved a lot in this episode. Both Jane and Rebecca are given five-star character treatment.

There were plenty of great scenes, like Rebecca's voice when she sees Kenny holding the cyanotic baby, or the stress of trying to convince Sarah to leave the mobile home. Even though a lot of the "choices" are illusory, I still felt significant stress with a lot of them, like what to tell Mike to do when Kenny goes off to beat the heck out of some walkers.

There were flaws for sure, like how Clem and Jane interacted with Arvo, how the game effectively glossed over Sarah's death, and how there had been no insinuation towards any believable chemistry between Luke and Jane, but considering how much it improved over episodes 1-3, which were still good, just not as good as anything in S1, I'm willing to look past any flaws and appreciate it for what it was.

  • Personally, I've just never liked Rebecca. I don't care about her or her baby. So, seeing how this episode was very focused on Rebecca and the baby, it was definitely my least favorite so far. To make it worse, basically all of the dialogue choices when speaking to Rebecca were supportive, so I was forced to either be supportive of Rebecca or just not speak at all in most cases. Probably the best part of the episode was where I got to shoot Rebecca in the head, if only because it meant she won't be in the next episode. I know a lot of people here love Rebecca, so I'll probably get a lot of hate for that comment, but oh well. Also, the "evil russians" from the end seemed pretty cheesy and just made me laugh at how bad it was. Other than that, I liked all the moments with the other characters.

  • People will complain about anything. This was my personal favorite episode of the season.

  • Like Greg Miller once said, the game is like a coloring book and you're the one that does the coloring. You will NEVER have full control of things. Just like in real life, you can do a bunch of differing things, but at the end of the day, it ends up with the same result.

Season One:Oh Nooooo! I can't believe this character is dead. I'm sobbing

Season Two:Jesus fuck are you seriously killing off this character Oh my god. they have so much potential and you’re wasting it .what are you even doing.

    And my favourite...

    Clem:searches a body i found two driver's license

Jane:lmaooo some people can't let go of the past

Jane:continues to talk about her dead sister

Jane:relates everything to her dead sister

Jane:compares Clem to her dead sister

Jane:treats Clem like she is her dead sister

  • because it smells like an old truckstop toilet.

  • Loved it, finishing Nick of was just satisfying.

  • Then what is the point of giving choices then? Season 2 could have made your choices more meaningful and actually somewhat effect the outcome, but as of right now at least, Season 1's illusion of choice was handled better.
