Sarah what the heck?
So I'm writing the game out into a fanfiction for those of my friends who "don't have enough time or money for the walking dead" but for some reason have enough time to read. Up until this point I haven't changed anything. But now, I'm thinking I might. Sarah's death just didn't make any sense imo. It's like she fell and got eaten and literally seconds later everyone's just "OMG a baby!" She deserved a better death than that. I'm at least going to make her survive until the shootout with the russians... Somewhere where her death actually makes sense...

Yeah, I felt dead during the baby scene because I was like, "Fucking really? Nobody even cares that Sarah just died a horrific death?"
Terribly written death and just an uneven poorly written episode all around. Only good thing I remember at the moment is Mike's awesomeness, and to a lesser extent, Jane, who I liked but quickly became Molly 2.0.
None of the remaining characters care that she's dead and I'm STILL sitting in a corner and whimpering.
That is so unfair.
I liked Jane, and then my respect for her dropped to a flat-out zero when she decided to screw Luke instead of keeping watch like they were supposed to. Those two have some shitty priorities.
At least she got a better sendoff then Nick, that was just terrible! It's the only thing I've hated! And I'm pleased very easily.
I haven't seen Nick's death yet. He died in episode 2 on my first playthrough. I'm gonna go play the alternate choice playthrough next.
Why'd you get him killed?
because I accidentally pressed the wrong button... I know... it's kind of lame, but I play with the first playthrough sticks philosophy.
Fair enough. So did you slap Walter?
Agreed. I would think that somebody who survived on her own and/or with a sister that needed constant protection, and was able to teach Clem a few tricks would know that they were in just about the worst position for such activities. Rebecca is in labor, there are next to no supplies, and everyone else is too busy to keep watch. Yep, perfect time for some sex.
Though I also have to say I'm incredibly disappointed with Luke. Both for the reasons mentioned above, and because he apparently couldn't turn down an offer from someone who shot the last guy who received an offer from her.
Yeah, that still feels really off and clearly just there for the sake of pushing the boring Kenny vs. Luke dynamic which apparently takes precedence over proper handling of every other goddamn character. I think it hurts Luke much more because of the lengths he's taken to protect the group before. Jane at least was more of a lone wolf kind of character. At least she had some great moments before that; Luke was just kinda there most of the time.
No... Did I have the option to?
Sarah's death was pretty messed up! Only Jane and Clem talked about it and it was only a single line. TBH I think the group forgot that she exist for being so quiet.
If Nick dies, you are given two options to cover up Nick's death, one to threaten Walter and another to just slap him.
Oh no! I would have done that if I had seen the option.
Yeah. Maybe she'll live on through the group's discussion in episode 5.
I can never kill Nick (i just can't see it as any type of canon), but I watched a video and it's a really hard slap to Walter's face.
I wish I hadn't killed Nick, but honestly... seeing how little he was in episodes 3 and 4, his death in episode 2 graced the plot a bit better if his death in episode 4 is like people say it is. I mean, Alvin wasn't in episode 3 that much, but that was because he was never there. It made sense with him. With Nick... he's just like nonexistent except for that one conversation in the yard where he was in bed.
Yeah, but I don't regret saving him, and i'd do it again. That conversation in episode 3 with him was touching. 'Us guys you mean."
After watching all of humanity die, and you are part of the .01% that has somehow survived, I'm sure the biggest burden and drawback to your own survival dying isn't really gonna bother you either. I would say Darwinism at its finest, but I can't say that because Sarah survived as long as she did.
Agreed.
I had to rewind and go back to see the choices right before Sarah got killed. In my haste, I thought I must have missed something like "Jump down to save Sarah" or "Throw gun down to Sarah". I really thought there would be the "throw gun" choice, since there was an opportunity to show her how to use a gun in a previous episode. I was like, "Oh, this is where showing her how to shoot a gun pays off!" But nope, I didn't miss any good choices. That just sucked.
Logic? What is logic?
This is TWD!
It might be only me here. But I feel like you were only given the choice to save Sarah, so Jane could prove a point later in the episode. I played twice, where I left and saved her, but I just feel like the choice was completely pointless. And Sarah's death later in the episode felt kind of rushed and dumb as well.
To be fair, I highly doubt Sarah would have put the gun to good use. Hell, even a sharpshooter with a stockpile of ammo probably would have had it rough in that situation. Given the fact that she was mentally broken, had never fired a gun before, was trapped under rubble, and was completely surrounded by walkers, I really don't see any way she could have made it out of that.
The group isn't reacting much to Sarah's death because they're desensitized to it. She's just another death in a sea of the dead. They're surrounded by death on a daily basis. Eventually, they get used to it. Rebecca likely only reacted to Nick's death because she was pregnant (pregnancy hormones). Look at horror movies. People go into them expecting a good scare and many walk out yawning. They're not as scary as they were 20-30 years ago if you go by their opinions. In reality, the movies are plenty scary and possibly even more so than 20 years ago. People are just used to it. Same is true of game difficulty. Games were harder 20 years ago and super easy now if you want to believe many hardcore gamers. Games are better now than they were then. Gamers are just better players than what they were then. I've been gaming since the late 80s. I've been through the gaming revolution across the platforms.
Looking from another angle, look at every day things. Are you excited by anything that occurs on a regular basis? Are you saddened by anything that occurs on a regular basis? How often do you get excited when dinner is made or saddened when you see a dead animal on the side of the road? You're more likely to be excited by something that occurs rarely (such as a video game release or a holiday) and be saddened by the death of a close friend, family member, or pet because those aren't every day things. As soon as those become every day, you just start thinking, "What's next?". You just stop caring.
Telltale's doing a wonderful job showing this and people just ignore it. Everyone's look at the game with the eyes of someone who's looking at the situation from the outside. Put yourself into their shoes. Think about what's going on in their lives every single day compared to your own. Then you'll see what they're going through and how they're reacting makes sense for their situation.
You're right, she probably wouldn't have made it out of that situation no matter what. But it would've been nice to have an option to at least try to help her.
Lets hope its' not a single line discussion of her lol!
How do they sleep and relax when sarah's body is so close by? If I were there, I would have been crying all night.
I guess she felt like screwing around before ditching the group.
I just played Nick's death scene. That indeed was very lame... hey, at least we got to see what Nick looks like under the hat right?
It's really sad that seeing his hair was the best part about it.
"That Sarah thing? What a bummer. Man what a cute baby."
Yeah
I think you're onto something. If nothing else, people weren't even that close to Sarah. Sure, she was part of the group, but Carlos clearly kept her secluded, and it's hard to become attached to someone that you barely know. Throw in how often she put the group at risk, and I can see where people weren't exactly emotional over her death. Heck, walking back with Sarah, I finally gave in a little bit to my frustration with her and told her she needed to at least try, or else nobody would want to help her.
Yeah, Sarah's death was one of the most disappointing things in the episode for me. Saving her seemed rather pointless. I told her that Carlos would want her to keep fighting and to survive, that she needed to start trying, but her outlook didn't really change the whole episode. She just continued doing what she did before you saved her; sitting around, too shocked to do anything.
I guess they were just tying Sarah into what Jane said about her sister. That some people don't have the drive to continue fighting in a world like this. But I dunno. I was hoping that she'd at least try a little before dying.
Plus, like you said, everyone forgetting about her death five seconds later was kinda odd.
