Eh, as everyone probably knows by now, I bitch and moan a whole lot about unrealized potential, but I don't think this is one of them. I really liked their interactions in episode 2 but I never thought there was some big bond that was growing between the two of them, so I don't have much to be disappointed about.
Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been intentional to make it seem like Luke was going to be Clem's new number one guy, just in time for Kenny to show up and assert himself into that position with not much regard for whether Clem would want that. It would make sense from a narrative standpoint since Kenny and Luke have this constant tension between them, and both were shown to have serious flaws in episode 4. Kinda sad that this boring rival dynamic is the only thing that really feels like it has proper connection between episodes this season, but whatcha gonna do?
Yeah, I had high hopes after the trailer had that "Hey, you okay?" moment in it, but my hopes got dashed. I really thought that they would talk about all the shit they have gone through and have this totally awesome BroTP bonding moment, but no.
Supposedly, the guys that wrote Episode 1 & 2 are in charge of the final episode. Hopefully they'll give us something. Really liked their moments in episode 1 & 2.
absolutely agree. i feel nothing for luke anymore. it wasn't just the jane thing, the entire episode he felt... different? i just didn't really care about him much, there were more interesting things going on
Agreed, and I don't get it at all. What was the point of setting it up in the first two episodes only to let it wither away in the next two? They basically just interact like any other pair of sort of friendly group members now. I was so excited to learn more about Luke and getting another bonding opportunity when I saw the trailer for this episode, but it went nowhere. Who are we even supposed to have a real connection to in the group at this point? I don't know, but I'm feeling pretty bitter about this.

...Because they decided to write in a shitty romantic subplot.
But yes, I am beyond disappointed that they set up that dynamic in episode 2, only to do nothing with it now. It was the only thing I was looking forward to this episode because of the "Hey, you okay?" line in the trailer, and it was refreshing to see a brother-sister relationship being explored in a video game, which actually made me warm up to season 2, but instead we got a romantic subplot that ruined any chance for character interactions between the two, and has just left me really disappointed with this episode. Like I understood not having it much in episode 3 since Luke was only there for half of it, and it was basically Kenny's episode, but now they just seem like regular group members... What wasted potential... I'm hoping they fix it next episode since Nick Breckon is writing it, but I don't want to get my hopes up to get disappointed again.
I don't know what they're trying to pull with the directions they're taking the characters now, but currently I don't feel any sort of emotional bond to anyone in the group, the only characters that seemed to have their bond with Clem explored this episode were Rebecca, Jane, and Sarah... and yeah, that just feels like a waste now.
It was the only thing I was looking forward to this episode because of the "Hey, you okay?" line in the trailer
And the potential of what the scene could have been (Clem and Luke bonding through pain of lost loved ones) was ruined when he decided to bring up Jane again and make it all about that thing they had going.

That's exactly what I'm getting at! If they hadn't included the romantic subplot, I'm sure Luke would've had something more to say to Clem in that moment, because his mind wouldn't have been on Jane, and then if the conversation shifted to Jane leaving, it wouldn't have ended the conversation like that. Seriously, they could've had a moment talking about Nick, the baby, or something, but nooo... romantic subplot wins over all.

I'm like how a lot of others felt. When I heard the "Hey, you okay?" I was really, really hoping it was hinting at a possible scene where we'd just get these two talking about something in the past, other than about Jane and what's best for Luke junior XD.
This is how I try to view the episode when thinking about it now. We know the Pizza & Ice Cream decision will come up in the final episode, and with how Episode 4 ended...well, I don't think many people are getting out of that, not with the amount of gunshots we heard. Definitely some will be injured, and maybe even dead by all that noise, and after that fun time Clem had with Mike and Bonnie with chasing the Raccoon, I really wouldn't be surprised if those two are the worst hurt.
Now if this last episode does somehow end on a Pizza & Ice Cream decision, then we can perhaps assume that maybe there is ONLY the Pizza & Ice Cream because there is nothing else to choose. And with all the hints about Kenny and Luke not getting along, it might be that Clem, Luke, Kenny and the baby might be the last few left :S
That in mind, if it be the case, then Amid the Ruins had to of put focus on the other characters as it did, because we lost Rebecca and Sarah, and the remaining few now might be dead right from the get go in Episode 5, or not live long like Sarita or Nick didn't. Mike might be shot dead, Bonnie might be injured and die later, and if that happens, then it'd leave more open character building between the Pizza and Ice Cream.
I guess what I'm trying to say is...
IF EPISODE 5 DOESN'T SPILL THE BEANS ON LUKE'S PAST AND GIVE ME MORE TO SHIP MY WIDDLE BROTP! I SWEAR I AM GONNA PUNCH TELLTALE IN THE SPLEEN AND SCREAM INTO A PILLOW WITH UTTER FRUSTRATION! x__x
(cough cough) but talking more rational here, we have to remember this game is about choice. Clem could be a douche to Kenny and Luke up to this point, or be a friendly widdle dear, or be 50/50. So I guess stuff like that can't present all the time, and again because the game has to put focus on the other characters and we can't leave them out.
But seriously, Luke:
Spilly those beans boy, spiiiiiiill them. Clem can be your therapist, talk and she will listeeeen T_T pretty please?
I noticed this too and hated it. Luke just seemed so different. He got a whiff of Jane and that was it for him. He & Clem used to have so much interaction and he always seemed to look out for her. He never really "checked on her" until the very end.
Not exactly so, Luke did hear from Kenny and Rebecca that Clem wasn't back yet and went to go check on her then, and it did show he cared when he was talking about 'picking the right sides' when worried Kenny wasn't going to snap out of it and wanted to make sure Clem stuck with people she'd be safe with. And I think he does check on Clem if Sarah is left behind, I can't remember the dialogue though.
So Luke does care, but this episode was more about the group as a whole and Clem getting stronger as a character.

Just like the text of this thread sadly...
Too true, before they had this brother and sister type relationship now well i dont know what happened.

Having the same writers return gives me hope. Those episodes showed the connection between them really well.

So much this. When she sat down and I knew it was that scene, I was thrilled and then came Luke's response:...yeah, stuff sucks. Anyway, about Jane...
