The whole "not everyone can have a heroic death" argument seems to be the main argument I see besides "if you don't like the game don't play it," when it comes to people stating their opinion. Like you said though, it's not about a heroic death, it's about having a death be handled in a way that makes people care. If every death in the series had been like Sarah's and Nick's I doubt people would have been as interested in it.
I am not saying that everybody needs to die as a hero. But take Nick - I know that his determinant status was probably a problem for TT, but… more many players (me included) decided to keep him alive because of his interesting background and character in general. And then, without warning, he gets killed offscreen with no proper send off. For instance, I'm NOT OKAY with him suddenly appearing as a walker, with TT thinking that will be enough as a closure. With everything that happened, I would take it a lot better if we were shown that he was bitten/killed during the herd scene (because I knew that he will die anyway - determinant characters never make it to the end of the season), but what was done in the game felt like a cheap trick.

There is also this idiotic mindset that ONE reviewer's opinion represents the entire site which is simply not true. They have an opinion, you have yours, also pretty sure other review sites weren't very kind to the games you mentioned, so I think some people are just getting a bit butt hurt when it comes to different opinions.

Colin Moriarty gave the Another World re-release a 4/10, stating that the game had bad controls like Telltale's TWD, and he gave Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of fate a 3/10 simply for not being Symphony of the Night,.
Jose Otero gave Hitman: Absolution an A-, which isn't actually that good of a Hitman game compared to Contracts or Blood Money, and gave Kirby: Triple Deluxe a 6/10 for being "too easy".

Late ditto to this as well. Felt that a lot of potential was lost with Amid the Ruins, and with all the dropped character arcs and shifts in direction it's not something that the season can easily make up for.
Honestly, this was not a good episode. It was sloppy, out of character, and had some immensely disappointing and poorly executed major chara… morecter deaths.
There were so many ridiculous inconsistencies--for example, why does Clementine never mention her experiences with Christa's birth during this entire episode? Why is Luke, who apparently tracked down the group for days without sleep or food, focused and obsessing over his plans, throwing away his inhibition to get laid? And on that note, why is it that Jane (who he barely knew for a day) leaving gets a big temper tantrum, whereas Nick's death just gets, "Fuck. Fuck"?
The deaths are no longer shocking or touching. Sarah and Nick are my favorite characters, but their deaths didn't move me. They made me frustrated.
