We're gonna have to boycott aren't we?
Now I want to immediately state before I put this post up that if you still love each episode and you have no problem with whats going on with the episode then freely disregard this post.
However, us who feel Telltale have ignored and failed us as fans have constantly been posting ever since episode 1 of this season over how Telltale has continually screwed up and aren't making anywhere near the quality product season 1 was. Because of this I think the only way we can show Telltale we are actually serious so they stop ignoring us and stop pretending we don't exist, IGN may say you're episodes are brilliant but you're actual diehard fans don't. I feel if Episode 5 fails again, the only thing we have to do as a community is boycott future Telltale games because it's the only way they can listen.
What fans want:
Choices that matter - Season 1 was faulted for not making choice matter much in the end, but the actual game responded and reacted in ways that mattered, Kenny was different throughout a lot of episode 3 in S1 based on ep 2, Carley and Doug had so much more baring than Nick ever did.
Longer Episodes - If choices had far more impact the length wouldn't be an issue, but as Wolf Among Us shows, they just want to get it out of door because of doing 4 games at once.
Good plot development / Characters - The cast of season 2...I don't feel nearly as much for them as I did for Season 1's cast when they die. I felt worse for Larry then Carlos' death. Theres so much focus on only Clem and Kenny and occasionally Luke. It's not as good as it should be.
I believe truly the only way to have any influence over Telltale is to boycott their products and refuse to buy them until they decide to change and improve their games. Wolf started good but honestly it did falter and I don't think anyone can deny that even if they did like the final episode there are clear signs they cut many corners and changed writers much to the ill of the game. If you agree with what I said, you owe it to yourself to actively protest with your hard earned money because Telltale doesn't care to your posts.
Comments
Good luck with that.
I dont get it this episode had literally everything people wanted, it was longer and at least every character got some development, there were even a few puzzles and hubs as well.
Choices have never mattered, in fact here we got as much as ever. the ending of three effects the start of 4 and choices lead to certain characters living longer.
Did someone take a vote saying you could speak for everyone? I must have missed that.
Nick and Sarah had no real purpose to the story.
Nick had no character post episode 2. The puzzle part I can kiiiiinda agree with but it wasn't great, and each character got time, but not in a good way really, Sarah got a forced death and no development. Jane was literally Molly in both a good and a bad way. The Hubs were okay. This ep was a step in the right direction but at the same time it still wasn't trying that hard
Look at how many posts there are every day from people complaining on the forums. I'm not saying I speak for literally everyone, and I totally said if you loved the season IGNORE THE POST.
Nick wasn't really an important character imo, he was just a character there for "decoration". Sarah was killed off for emotional purposes, either way, they both had nothing to give to the story. Their storylines were done.
I knew I was doomed from the start and I'm not even gonna deny that.
We have a dislike troll somewhere around here.
Boycotting won't work, sorry, but I do agree with how Telltale seems to be putting its focus on quantity over quality. Writing was weak this episode, and the interactive storytelling was as well.
But they didn't give much to the story in the first place, Sarah somewhat with her links to Carlos and sad parallel to Clem but they just killed Carlos for shock value and stopped Sarah for growing as a character and just kept her around for a sad death. Nick could've grown because of Pete's death but they cut that thread immediately post episode 2
I think they could have kept Carlos, but Sarah would have no use. I wish she would have had a better death though.
Nick no he didn't have anything left, maybe Pete, but not him. Maybe an unknown status.
If there is ANY Boycotting we're using Saltlicks....
Whilst I agree with your main 3 points of what fans want, I disagree with the rest of your post.
I think the problem is, with season 1 you had the drugstore as a hub to get to know the other characters in your group and as it was the 1st season there was more "Oh dang, didn't expect that!" but because this is season 2 and there wasn't a hub early on, it did make it a bit more difficult to get attached to the characters the same way we did in season 1 especially as we learnt from series 1, a detriment character, will always die no matter what so there's far less shocking moments when the new characters die.
The biggest shock of season 2 is still Omid's "death" sniff and that was 10 minutes in!
I do agree, Telltake keep focussing on Kenny. Kenny should have stayed dead in season 1 or at the very least provide a very good explanation as to how he got out of there - 'real lucky' don't cut it. (I know I've said that before and probably sound like a broken record, but I'm still waiting for an explanation..) I also don't think he should have got more episodes than Lee. Lee got 5, Kenny has 8 so far.. only beaten by Clem, naturally ofcourse. There are plenty of other characters that are well liked and they still died, so what's so special about Kenny? I also think this is part of the reason that I'm team Luke 110% of the way.
But it has been this whole season, and it has been in Wolf too.
Last I checked, ign gave episode 4 a 6\10. Excuse the grammar sloppiness. Using a tablet.
Juice Boxes + Saltlicks + Crowbar = PARTY!
Ok I agree that so-called gameplay quallity went down with season 2, but to be honest I think this is what we are getting right now. This is the new standard for TTG and people will stil buy it, play it, love it.
I know I do, and I will. If this is the price of having 4 ongoing TTG games, so be it. I'm not 100% ok with this, but I can live with it and hope for better.
IN other words, it doesn't bother me that much to stop play or "boycotting" anything.
It will never be as good as Season 1. But S2Ep2 was awesome, IMHO. That hostage situation was so tense, and I also enjoyed everything in Ep3, besides that Nick didn't speak much (a result of Telltale's focus elsewhere yet again). This episode just showcased a lot of... laziness tbh. I still love Telltale, but it was a disappointment.
I gotta agree about 2, it showed so much promise, which is why the later episodes disappoint, 3 especially.
People complain about every little thing.
It's annoying, and it pisses me off. TTG works hard, and hardly gets any credit.
I agree with all of your points and it REALLY bothers me how the quality went down from season 1, but I can't just stop playing it. There's no way, I'm too hooked even if it sucks.
I said post Walking Dead because I too will get Episode 5 anyway because I still do like the season it's just not nearly as good as it really could be which is a shame.
I will not boycott or sign any negative petition against Telltale because I have no serious complaint's. Sure there are bit's I would have liked to be done a little differently (like Starved for Help with the St. John cannibals.. While I agree the whole cannibal thing would be likely to happen in a zombie apocalypse, I didnt agree that should happen in just episode 2 of season 1.. Especially on a farm with corn and a cow left. They were not starving and Telltale could have used that whole senerio later in the seasons) but it is what it is and it happened regardless what I think about it. I could even call bullshit with Mike carrying those two huge water containers 1.2 miles, but what good will it do? Sometimes you'll enjoy the game more if you just take it as it's presented and not complain that it's not how you wanted it. I wanted to go with Jane, she told Clem no. I was dissappointed, but that not Telltales failure.
I mean but do you guys really have to make this to encourage people to stop buying the game?
But just why?
I agree, that the only way TT will listen is if you stop purchasing their products. But the problem lies with you finding enough people whom will actually go though with it. The fact is, there will always be people who like what TT is doing and who enjoy these episodes. Them changing is unlikely. Change will only come when it's convenient for them.
What was bad about 3? Wasn't as good as 2 but I didn't see that many issues with it.
What games listen to their customers for ideas?
I've heard of some games but not too many? Are there any?
I'd like to clarify, this isn't some big call to arms for everyone to boycott, I only want the people who genuinely feel let down by Telltale for this and possibly Wolf, if you like the game still enough to either put up with this or if you don't see it as a problem, please, keep playing. I don't want this to seem like I'm calling you an idiot or anything if you disagree, I just personally think me and a lot of players aren't being treated fairly and aren't being listened too. This isn't a petition or a 'movement' or anything like that, it's just a suggestion for those like me who feel Telltale refuses to listen because this model works financially.
3 was good dramatically but it was a shift in tone, they got rid of a good villain meaning the main antagonist of this season is just some random Russians. Choice mattered so little and Clem was suddenly the only resourceful member of the group, I get her being useful but it was a bit overblown.
Theres a difference between ideas and feedback.
Ideas are going "Bring Lily back"
Feedback is when a complaint is made over the quality of the product.
Well bascially I can agree with you on all points. I mean improving all points would generally improve the game, any game. But I have to say that all in all I like the second season. Of course it's not perfect. But the first was neither. And although I think that the points two and three can be improved, I don't think that we'll ever see any improvement in point 1, the choices:
If choices would really matter, at least two games need to be developed (write different stories, design new sceneries, program all the stuff, test it, etc.). But that's the problem of nearly any game. There are just few games out there, where choices have some impact on the story development.
A few words to the length of Episodes:
Although in general the episodes were longer in season 1, there is in my opinion a reason why there are shorter in season 2. In s1e1, 20 - 25 minutes are spent alone to introduce you to Lee an Clementine. Whenever there were new characters a hub was introduced to get to know them better. But there's no much difference to season 2, you just already know most of the people:
So whenever a character is used that you already know, time is cut out, so to speak.
