Your thoughts on Luke and Kenny?

So, a few questions on your thoughts about the two... (you don't have to answer these directly, but they help to follow)

First of all, Luke.

Did your opinion of him change after the thing with Jane? Was that okay for him to do? Do you trust him as much as you did before. Did you even trust him in the first place?
My personal answer to this would be that I trusted him before and respected him for protecting Clementine while the rest of the group wanted to kill her. He didn't underestimate her and treated her like she was an adult, which she really should be treated as. Clementine has grown up so fast, and she doesn't deserve to be treated like an 11 year old (which she is), because even though she is physically young, she is mentally an adult. Luke was kind, adorable, and loyal. I really expected more out of him. But, in Amid The Ruins, he really pissed me off. Rebecca was getting ready to give birth to a baby, introduce another human into this messed up zombie filled world. But, Luke chose to be selfish. I'll probably forgive him later because he is a great character, but that just wasn't okay. Even though I still love him, my respect and trust in him has plummeted.

Second of all, Kenny.

If you chose to cut off Sarita's arm or not, was it okay for Kenny to go off on Clementine and say it was all her fault, even though he didn't mean it? Were Kenny's little rants okay to put on Clementine like that? Did you chose to let him keep talking or interrupt him? Do you still trust Kenny? Did you trust him in the first place? What are your predictions for Kenny and his sanity at this point, in general?
I've always loved Kenny. He's an innocent family man who lost his wife and son in the most horrific way possible. He's been through hell and back, but when he reunited with Clem, he did seem a little different. It's true that Kenny's broken and it's wrong to blindly trust him. But, I still do, just not as much as before. He says and does things he doesn't mean, like when he blamed Clem for Sarita's death. That was not okay, but I understand that his anger had to be let out on somebody, because if he held it in, it would only get worse. Really, my opinions on Kenny are based off my twin sister who goes on little rants all the time, obviously not like Kenny, but they're still rants. She told me that if she holds it in it only gets worse, so she needs to let it out. This brings me to my next question, did I interrupt Kenny when he was naming all the people he'd seen die. Of course not, I let him deflate like a balloon, hoping it would at least help a little. He needed it. So, now onto my predictions. I think if Rebecca didn't have that baby, it may have been a little bit more hopeless than I'm comfortable with concerning Kenny's mental situation. The baby serves as a great distraction for Kenny, and it's something for him to hold onto. I mean, he still loves Clem and wants to protect her, but I don't think he was capable enough after Sarita passed away and before the baby was born. But, I think he'll be fine next episode because of the baby. He;ll be just as broken as he was in Amid The Ruins, maybe a little more so, but not enough to kill him. Yet. Hopefully he won't go downhill...

Sorry for the novel.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

  • I think that Luke and Kenny should stop arguing like children and try to work together.

Luke really disapointed me in this episode, he puts the group in danger just to screw with Jane. Seriously, it's the apocalypse, those kind of errors are often fatal to someone.

And for Kenny, I was mad at him for being...well for being S1 Kenny. And I personally think that if something happens to the baby, he'll lose it for good this time.

  • I think Luke and Kenny is a traditional struggle of Pragmatism vs. Dreamer.

Luke believes in keeping a happy group and that everything will turn out for the better.

Kenny believes that things need to be done in order to ensure survival.

I think Luke lets things go to his head too easily while Kenny can be broken too easily.

With this being said, I think Kenny is getting better due to the baby and I think Luke should get his head into what he does.

  • Yeah, I agree about Luke and the arguing. He was being immature; and arguing with Kenny about his little fling with Jane while Kenny is holding a baby? And arguing loudly in the middle of the woods like children? My god.

  • Honestly, they both have had big fuck ups, but that doesn't completely define them. I don't hate both of them, but I obviously think they aren't 100% reliable, they both try so hard, just seem to be cracking, especially Kenny. I don't know how he is still going, but it's amazing he is. I think i may have overreacted at first about both of their screw ups, and obviously knowing Kenny longer seems to be the reason why most of us like Kenny more.
I think we all just wish that the characters we like always made choices that we like. But there is no perfect character, not in an apocalypse. There isn't even a near perfect one.

  • You like Luke even more? Hm, how so?

  • When it comes down to it, I think both of them are good guys at heart that occasionally fuck-up and are currently breaking under the strain of the world they live in. However, this episode did not inspire my confidence in either of them. Both of them were wallowing in their own issues and neither of them were there for Clem as a person really, though Kenny did step up with the baby and Luke does inquire a bit about your headspace, it still wasn't much. I feel pretty isolated from both of them and that neither has my back.

    Luke...

He just succumbed hard to selfishness and stupidity, and once upon a time I thought he was going to be an opportunity for a real bond and partner this season, but that's just vanished up into the air. Much more important for him to focus on his fling with Jane, I suppose. Now, I'm just like...eh, I guess I still like you well enough but the luster is definitely gone.

Kenny is as Kenny always has been and I've had my problems with him since day one. He's had it the worst out of all the characters and it's showing, his grip on life and his sanity are faltering and we're already getting caught in the fallout. Him clinging to this baby is a disaster in the making and I've never liked his 'my way or the highway' attitude. Once the baby is gone or is jeopardized at all really, I see him losing it and doing something totally reckless and crazy. He needs someone to take care of to have purpose, and if Clem and the baby don't work out, he has no tether. I've just never meshed with him, though I think he's a great character, and mostly I just feel like his time has run out.
