Making it REAL HARD to like Luke now...

I don't know why Telltale decided to make Luke get laid in order to put the group in danger, but as a Luke fan, they are making unnecessarily harder to like Luke.

I get it, they want to "balance" the scales before the final choice between Luke and Kenny (if there is one), but at this point, most would probably pick Kenny in a heartbeat.

  • You're right. If the pizza or ice cream decision really is Kenny or Luke, it doesn't seem like it is going to be hard deciding who to choose...

  • Well Kenny says I'm a "stupid fucking kid" and also has seperation issues, like big time, he was trying to keep Duck alive as long as possible even though he was suffering and coughing up blood, and I thought he was over that, but now he wanted to keep Sarita alive for as long as possible even though she had an arm cut off, and two chunks of flesh eaten out of her skin

  • Luke never had much of a chance. We knew Kenny in Season 1. He had the whole season for us to get to know him and like him. Luke will have 1 season if he survives Ep4.

  • Just posted this in another thread (lazy, but it really is my exact response here and I totally agree):

They really went a strange way with them this episode if the endgoal is still a choice between them. Neither of them came out looking very appealing and neither of them had Clementine's back or seemed invested in her mental/emotional well-being. They were both just too busy being unpleasant and wallowing in their own issues. That being said, Kenny came out if it being less damaged than Luke in people's eyes and as a still sort-of Luke fan I'm pissed off that this episode screwed him (no pun intended).

Kenny may have been a major asshole here, but he has enough history to mediate that for a lot of people. Luke doesn't, and I was so hopeful coming off of episode 3's heavy Kenny focus that Luke would get the same treatment in episode 4 to even out the odds a little bit. He definitely didn't, we still don't know much about him, what we did learn in this episode was nothing favorable, and what the heck happened to his bond with Clementine? Right, a stupid romance subplot for him to obsess over and be a moron about was more important than giving him a real scene to talk/grieve to us about Nick or have that, "Hey, you okay?" scene actually be a real conversation between him and Clementine, about him and Clementine. Ugh, rant over, I just don't get this and they could've done so much more with Luke's character.

  • But.. he was able to put Sarita down by himself in the end.In Season one, in a similar situation, he'd need Lee to help him with something like that.

That does mean he's not completely lost it, imo. He is being "tempered" by hardship as Luke put it, but it's just that he's a lot more emotional and lets it get the best of him when dealing with grief. BUT, at least this time he was able to overcome it by himself.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said, Telltale absolutely destroyed Luke's character with this episode.

The reason why they did that, we probably will never know.

  • I don't know that Luke was ever going to win, but opinions were very closely split. Didn't it come out 60/40 on a recent poll before the episode? A strong showing from Luke in E4 could've tipped a few more points in his favor too, and I think you're underestimating the extent that Kenny can rub people the wrong way and some people's fatigue with him in general after so long.

I never cared for him and still want to support Kenny. So yeah, Luke completely shirking his responsibilities because he couldn't keep it in his pants has made him untrustworthy in my eyes.

Lol three downvotes. Hi, Luke fans!

  • I think they made Luke hated in this episode because Kenny while a good character has been a dick at certain parts in S1 and 2. It had to be balanced so that Luke was not as good as people thought.

  • It probably helps to not look at it from the perspective of "they made Luke fuck up so the group could be in danger". What I got this episode is that Luke is not as well put together as some might've hoped and even he has his breaking point. All things considered, if being horny is the most reckless thing he's capable of when he's super stressed, I'd be relieved.

  • I honestly wasnt expecting everyone to be so upset about it. Compared to everything else him having a moment with her after losing so much wasnt so unreasonable. I was more irritated with his constant nagging. I mean walkers were coming and rebecca wasnt going anywhere they didnt lose anyone due to that.

Kenny and Luke can both screw off in my opinion though, even though Bonnie and Mike are probably already dead

  • I agree. Kenny's harsh words to Clem were way out of line, but he was under extreme stress at the point and his actions showed him trying to protect the group. Luke, on the other hand, deliberately neglected a vital duty that he had promised to perform just so he could get laid, and that led to disaster. I really can't think of any excuse for that, so while Kenny is by no means perfect, if it comes down to a choice between them I'll happily throw Luke off a cliff.

  • Luke haters trying to find justifiable reasons to hate him. I also was annoyed by his constant nagging, but more so with Kenny calling me a stupid fucking kid. I'm starting to feel as if I should've let Sarita take a chomp out of him. Luke was a serious prick this episode also, but they're both only human, so they can't both be perfect. I'm still on the fence with who to side with, but your idea of Mike and Bonnie is starting to sound lovely.

I honestly wasnt expecting everyone to be so upset about it. Compared to everything else him having a moment with her after losing so much w

  • Except it didn't balance the scales because Luke needed more significant, positive moments and development to boost him up to compete with Kenny, not a major screw-up. When you have 13 M&M's in your bag and someone else has 3 in theirs, and you both drop one on the ground, it seems like the same loss at first, but you still come out way on top because you had way more to work with and thus take a lot less impact.

  • I think it's a combination of factors, tbh. The major mistake with Jane, his general crappy attitude this episode, a lack of standout, positive moments in general, a lack of bonding with Clementine. No favors were done for him whatsoever, which especially hits hard for people hoping this was going to be for him like episode 3 was for Kenny.

  • Jane made it hard for Luke zing

I didn't mind the whole pork incident, but the thing that let me down on Luke is that his character didn't get that much development in the episode other than porking. On the plus the other characters got some good development which I liked and I can honestly say I don't hate Jane anymore, and I love Mike got some time with the team too.

Still we've got one episode to go, and if this Pizza & Ice Cream business really is about Kenny and Luke, then unless that episode gives us something more on Luke in terms of his history, I think a lot of people are going to go for Kenny all because we know Kenny and what his gone through. Luke? There's little to go on other than what Nick has told us and I find myself doubting the character myself now.

Although, I'm struggling to have faith in Kenny too, because he really scared me this episode and I know mentally he's not okay. So maybe that's the intention for the episode? :S I just hope Episode 5 brings out some good in both of them.

  • Honestly,I don't hate Luke for that.Yeah,it's true that what he did was kind of stupid but I still like him. So,there would still be a problem for me picking between Kenny and Luke.

  • Some may agree or disagree with me but i think Kenny cares about Clem a lot more than Luke does. Kenny and Clem have been through everything together. Even though in Season 1 it hardly showed them talking, didn't mean they weren't close. Kenny has showed his caring side to Clem this season, letting Carver beat him up over the radio thing for example.
