Nick: The Most Pointless Character in Video Games

Maybe not the history of video games but he has to be up there. You seriously could remove him from the game and not change a damn thing aside from the minor side-plot of him shooting Walters' boyfriend. He didn't do all that much in episode 1 and did absolutely nothing in 3 and 4. Not that I expected much from a determinant character but cmon guys, that was pointless. Ben at least got to make up with Kenny if he survived. Nick? Absolutely no reason for him to live from chapter 2. And on that note I'm also annoyed that your choices only seem to delay the inevitable. I think Molly is the only character who lives or dies based on your actions and even that is somewhat ambiguous.

  • Not sure if troll, or just really butthurt.

  • Please tell me how you reached that conclusion. Because I find it completely pointless that you have the option to keep Nick alive only for him to have one line out of two episodes only to die nonchalantly?

  • Welcome to the zombie apocalypse where people will die without reason.

  • The only reason Nick is "the most pointless character in video games" is because Telltale decided to completely invalidate their own characterization and prior development to his character.

  • How dare you speak of Kenny's hat brother in such a disgraceful manner

  • Now, I thought Andre would be the most pointless character.

Think about it. He shoots at Lee because he Suspects him of being a walker, but when Walker Chet shows up, he can't shoot him.

Also, before you say anything about Chet, I was deeply concerned about him getting back to his mother for hot dish night.

And, if you have no clue who Andre is, he only shows up if you leave Clementine's house at night.

  • Which was my point...

  • Story-wise you don't kill characters without reason. Nick's death served no purpose, emotional or otherwise. The only purpose I can see is that Telltale forgot some players still had him around and they wanted him out of the way.

  • Nick was actually a pretty good character. Telltale just screwed him up when they made him determinant and essentially booted him out of the story without actually killing him.

  • so much negativity towards season 2 I still don't understand it

  • He got shot and obviously ended up bleeding to death.. I don't know why people were surprised to see him as a walker.

It's not that we were surprised, it was how poorly handled it was.

  • Nick was nice, he somehow teaches Clem to be honest, he killed someone but he had the courage to tell the truth, when i gave him the watch i felt happy, Nick wasn't pointless, he was a good friend.

  • bla bla bla bitching again bla bla
    thats all I understood

  • I still don't agree, sorry.

    Then you would understand.

  • I'd say that a great majority of people here expected Nick to die this Episode. It's not the fact that he died at all that we're upset about, it's how it was done. He just runs off and we find him dead. He had about 5 lines of dialogue in Episode 3, and a grand total of zero in this Episode. For such a good character to be ignored like Nick was is just horrible. THAT is what we're upset about.

You appear to have struck a nerve DeepThroat. Good luck.

  • Maybe the VA just wasn't available...

Well, the topic of Nick's death can easily be bait, that's why I made the assumption that you're just trying to troll people.

And how I came to the conclusion that you're butthurt is maybe you just loved Nick so much that it was hard for you to deal with his death. :)

Please tell me how you reached that conclusion. Because I find it completely pointless that you have the option to keep Nick alive only for him to have one line out of two episodes only to die nonchalantly?

  • Nick was arguably the most developed character of the new group; the problem is that the story doesn't really bother much with him should he survive episode 2. Thus the unsatisfying off-screen death.

  • Because it's NOT season 1 I guess? I dunno either.

  • Nick's death did have purpose you get a cool ice pick because your hatchet gets stuck in his head.

  • Exactly. I think Nick should have been found alive with Luke and Sarah, and after having some opportunities to talk with him, he should have died in the gun fight or something. Maybe he could have been the one to fall with the balcony.
