Telltale, don't let this happen again.

edited July 2014 in The Walking Dead

July 20th was a very tragic day on these forums, somehow someone got ahold of the ending of episode 4 and uploaded it to youtube. Then users made big deal about it and then attracted trolls (Not all users were trolls) and they started spoiling the deaths BEFORE episode 4 even came out. This can't happen again, it was extremely annoying to feel like i couldn't go on these forums or any other site because somehow the deaths got leaked.

I don't know how Telltale can change this but i'm begging them do NOT let this happen with Episode 5, the final episode. Episode 4 was amazing but for some it was ruined when they found out who died before its release. If Clementine dies at the end of Episode 5 i don't want to find out from some idiot on these forums, on youtube, twitter, facebook, even steam saying "CLEM DIES IN EP.5!!! HAHA"

Before the deaths were leaked the choices were leaked a MONTH before the episode already came out, and there was a lot of confusion at first because most of thought they were fake so most of us saw them in the first couple of days of the leakage. A week from now i don't want the choices to be spilling into these forums and ruin it for us. I'm not completely sure how much Telltale could do, but i know this wasn't a issue with Episode 1, 2 or 3. I should be able to feel safe here not always worrying about if something will be leaked. So please don't let this happen again and please correct me if there is nothing Telltale can do about that situation.

  • I honestly think this is going to happen again seeing as telltale did jackshit about it last time.

  • As far as the ending goes, it was the work of some bastard who used a press copy. Luckily for him, he apparently lives in Iraq, so he ain't never getting caught.

As far as the choices go, they barely put any security in it at all, and they put the choices in the Episode 3 .exe file, IIRC . Anyone could have easily haxed it something like that.

  • Well they need to change something and put more security on the files.

  • Someone did it with CE ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

well I talked to somebody who knows about this and they confirmed that they fixed how the person downloaded it early so that's okay. Also, they fixed the info in the files so I'm sure episode 5 is safe as hell.

  • They better be safer

  • You know actually the guy said he won't reveal how he did it so he can do it again with Ep. 5.

He did it on the Android version, I think (if there is one), he could barely get 3-5 frames per second.

But a legit leak is still a legit leak.

And the worst that can happen to this guy is that his YouTube account gets closed. He can easily create as many as he wants.

  • I thought this was going to be a discussion about a possible ending predicted for the finale xD

  • I always feel like if you want to avoid spoilers then you shouldn't be going on the internet. I think it's fairly easy to stay away from anything TWD related as long as you don't look up TWD.. Personally, I didn't realize this even happened but I like spoilers so it seems pretty cool that someone was able to do it.

  • I sure as fuck agree with you there, pal. Maybe someone with computer security experience could say something about it?

  • Must be one shitty press if they rewiew the smartphone version.

He did it through editing the files.

Seriously, how is it a press copy?

What kind of press reviews the smarthphone version of The Walking Dead?

I read about some viewer of his posting how he tried to do it, editing the files, asking for a little help, and the poster of the leak said he was very close.

Of course, we can watch those men burn, my friend >:)

  • It's easier to edit the files from an aplication with a rooted phone than to steal a press key.

  • If someone says "X dies" and posts a link to another site, assume it's a troll making shit up and don't click the link. Problem solved.

  • The problem then everyone else makes threads about finding out the person dies.

  • I really hope Puzzlebox or someone else on TTG's team sees this.

  • great he wants to do it with ep5 too. sigh

  • Assume they are all trolling or being trolled. Don't read the topic.

  • Well hopefully Elias is right and there is a ton of security on the episode 5 files.

I really don't think Clem will die. Because thts too predictable. TTG likes to surprise the audience. Becuz I don't think it'll be a repeat of EP5 S1 TWD becuz there's no other main character to take the next role. TTG probably thinking of a big surprising end for us. I saw the trophies for EP5. This title has me think (ALL THE DEAD LIE DOWN: Complete No Going Back). Sounds like we'll make a huge decision that'll end in death and i don't think its a leave or kill Clementine because there's no other child or character to take the next role or place and its too predictable. Rumors going tht Telltale is planning for a Season 3.

  • Its confirmed by telltale there is going to be a season 3! :D

  • Telltale NEEDS to do something, we should be allowed to go on the forums and have to be safe. And the same guys are planning to do it again? Ugh fuck off.

  • You could try PM'ing them.

I found the video before it got posted to the forum and i let them know about it immediately, me and the other mods did as much as we could to remove all spoilers but some still got through before we had chance to remove them unfortunately :(. Hopefully it shouldn't happen again.

  • I saw the video linked on Steam TWD forums but i didn't watch it. I avoided the forums after that until the release date. It was tough, in my opinion just don't watch/read anything with spoilers and you should be ok.

  • You can't secure press copies sent to people. How?
As for achievements they could at least simply upload them couple minutes before the episodes' releases.

I sure as fuck agree with you there, pal. Maybe someone with computer security experience could say something about it?

  • You know people are going to troll the boards with fake spoilers , just to rile people up. Episode 5 will be huge.

  • you should say that to the guy who decided to upload spoilers :s
what sucks is that the leaked choices were true... we probably still have bad days to come until season 2 ends... there's not much we can do about it.

  • Welcome to the internet. Look at a game like World of Warcraft. There are VERY popular fansites that are dedicated to datamining each patch and releasing every little tidbit for the fans. Yeah, people complain only for them to be told they don't have to come to the site. If this is true for a game as large as World of Warcraft, it was only time before it moved onto other games.

If you don't want to be spoiled, then perhaps you should stay away from forums related to that game. While Telltale can attempt to keep spoilers out of the forums, there are more that are willing to ruin the game for those that don't want to be spoiled than there are moderators. Add in bots and it'd be impossible for them to keep all of the spoilers away. The only way to avoid spoilers is to remove yourself from the equation. You can't control the spoilers but you can control what forums you visit and what threads you look at on those forums. You can't rely on someone else to do that for you.
