What has Clementine turned into?

  • Mine is pretty pragmatic and focused on survival, but also with a bit of reckless streak in taking the risky jobs and always wanting to prove herself more than a child. As a result of Christa's influence, I played her as very wary of strangers and slow to trust early in the season, as well as pretty sassy and giving back anything people wanted to throw at her (still.not.bitten). She warmed up somewhat over the episodes, but still kept people a bit at arm's length, except for maybe Luke. She was frustrated with Sarah from the beginning but also pitied her and tried to help her toughen up and learn survival skills when she could, knowing what awaited her if she didn't.

She was already coming to terms with the fact that you have to do unpleasant things to survive even before this episode (like blackmailing Rebecca and Alvin, not protesting potentially leaving Kenny behind, and agreeing to lie to Walter, before he found out anyway), and shouldering a fair amount of survivor's guilt which led to her desperately wanting to not make any more mistakes and thus take the smart route over the nice one. Carver's words about her prompted her to begin to examine exactly who she was, and I think things started to come together as she watched him die.

After this episode, and especially Jane's influence, I think my Clementine has both resolved and resigned herself to surviving no matter what and not finding there to be much else left to her. She may not like herself for the things she does, or feel that Lee or her parents would be proud, but it's cold comfort getting through another day at least. Her lingering desire to be around people is fading fast, finding the group to be on its last legs: Kenny to be someone she cannot rely on or be close to, Luke disappointing her and damaging what she thought was her best option at a partner and friend, Jane bailing on the potential bond they were forming and leaving her behind, more people dying at her own hand or choices, all the personal conflict and drama, etc. She's seeing Jane's point proven: people will let you down and turn on you and get you killed.

For my Clem, the closest thing to happiness for her now may just being alone and alive.

In Season Two, my Clementine embodies like characteristics of my Lee, she's an affectionate, kind, polite, and mature little girl, she acts as the moral compass of the group, and she tries her best to maintain humanity in the post-apocolyptic world, similar to that of in Season One.

My Clementine displays adequate manners when talking to adults, while at the same time upholding a definite sense of morality. She's not a conformist and isn't afraid of speaking her mind, therefore she's not willing to conform to the ideologies of the group in times of great moral conflict, if of course the group's ideologies aren't morally right.

Despite my Clementine's maturity, she's still relatively innocent in the way that children are. For example, she pinky promises Sarah with the promise of being her friend forever in Episode 1: All That Remains, while all throughout the proceedings, continually being truthful to her about it, like as to not leaving her at the trailer park in Episode 4: Amid The Ruins, because as she stated in Episode 4: Around Every Corner of Season One, "We don't leave friends behind.". She appeals to the good nature of people, showing that her faith in humanity from Season One is still intact.

  • Now that's depressing. Surviving day-by-day without purpose is no way to live.

  • I try to keep my Clem's humanity as much as possible, but she will still make the tough decisions for her survival and maintain a toughness when needed, much like my Lee. She won't stoop to any moral lows to survive though, much like her season 1 self, I play her to be as kind and accepting of everyone as possible, so I haven't played sassy Clem much, aside from towards Carver and Troy. I guess she just tries to see the good in everyone still, even though there are obviously bad people in the world, but at the same time she is wary of people and plays nice to those she doesn't trust in case it comes back to haunt her, like with Arvo. She also won't do things she finds unnecessary for her survival, so I didn't let her watch Carver's death, since that was unnecessary. I also play her as knowing more than she let's on, so I obviously didn't blackmail Rebecca since I felt if I had that information to use against her, it would be better if she not know. There are also some dialogue options where it's obvious Clem knows more than others think, but she can play it off as if she doesn't. I guess that's to maintain a sense of innocence for my Clem, and to have an upper-hand against people if she needed. She can kind of be a bit harsh towards others that have crossed her though, like she didn't give water to Victor since he was the reason she lost Christa, and she was quite sassy to Bonnie. She feels bad about these decisions, but she felt they were best at the time.

At the start I guess I played her a little too hopeful that things will go back to the way they once were, but after episode 3 and 4, she's kind of accepting the fact that things can't go back to the way they once were. With most of her friends now dead, and the distance she currently feels from being disappointed by Luke, and how hurt she is after Kenny's lashing out at her, she kind of feels as if she's on her own now. She still doesn't know if Christa made it, and things don't look good for her group. She also shot Rebecca which was more of the survivalist thing to do, although it was more in order to protect the baby and the group, and she's been there before with having to put down Lee, so it was a tough choice for her to make, but she was still able to do it.

I guess in short, my Clem keeps her humanity as much as possible, and started out very hopeful and still seeing the good in others, but is slowly starting to realize that the world is a bad place, and things won't go back to the way it once was, so all she can do now is survive. It doesn't mean she can't keep her humanity, because I'm sure not letting my Clem lose her humanity, it just means it can't be like before with Lee, and now she's on her own and must make the choices she feels are right in order to make it in the world she lives in.

  • Yeah, but I personally still have some hope that Luke will make up for his screw-up and attitude this episode in the finale and prove himself worthy of surviving with Clem. He and Jane are the only ones my Clem has really connected to this season. That, or we find Christa alive, though, I foresee conflict there as she'd obviously want to keep the baby and I pretty much don't.

  • Clementine still has humanity only because Lee had it. She wants to try and defend her people, and use her innocence to her advantage. However when the situation goes bad, she tries to think of a way to get out and away from walkers, rather than people risking their life.

  • What's that?! Clementine is evolving!

  • Nice username.

Numbness will subside in a few minutes...

Seems appropriate. Now she just needs a training montage. XD

My Clementine is never selfish or snotty but loyal and cooperative, though without being blind. She knows when to surrender as she doesn't want to take too many risks when others are involved. Now, that everything's falling apart and even the clostest people turn out not to be reliable (Luke, Kenny) she will probably do as Jane told her: not letting them pull her down. Clementine is a survivor who has hardened through the process. She still has a heart yet she is not willing too risk to lose the most valuable thing to her: her life. This might lead her to loneliness in the end and I hope her companions don't fuck up anymore, because I don't want her to be by herself
