Why is having a new protagonist...

So bad?

When the original The Walking Dead came out, Lee and Clem were new and amazing.People fell in love with them and thought they were astounding and everything. Only took 2 episodes to enjoy them. Even with the new season, we've had people falling in love with Nick, Luke, Sarah, Alvin, Rebecca, Bonnie, Mike, Jane, etc.

But the moment the notion Clementine could die/not be the protag comes up? NoClemNoBuy happens, and alot of people say they won't give a Season 3 another chance. Couldn't an entirely new story still have the same impact Lee and Clem did, when they started out?

  • The thing is if you don't know what Clem's doing while we play as someone else means we're all going to ask "Where's Clem? What's Clem doing?"

  • Just because you don't play as her, doesn't mean she can't pop up. And no one says Season 3 is set date-wise after Season 2.
Plus less time playing as her also could sort of let her avoid big dramatic conflicts and keep her safe.
Plus, there is a chance she could die even if you dislike the possibility.

  • Well still, most people still want play as her.

  • No idea but people here can't let go of Clem but they should

  • Another argument in support of a new protagonist is the existence of 400 Days. A new protagonist in each story gave us a new situation, new circumstances and everything felt fresh from one to the next.

  • Because if theres a lack of character development in season 3 like there was in season 2 i wont feel attached to the characters.

  • As long as I'm 100% SURE Clem is alive and well, I'm fine with playing someone else.

    I'd actually prefer it tbh

Clem should definitley not die, but it would be interesting to see new perspectives.

  • My idea was to play as someone who gets seperated from their group and then gets amnesia and then clementine can be the protagonist for season 3 dlc.

I never understood the hate for a new protagonist! Just think of the potential a new playable character could have.

And Clem does not need to be killed of if Wellinton is a place that has not been overun by undead or controlled by a lunetic like Carver.

  • I put too much work creating the Clem I wanted in season 1 and then watching her grow and put her morals to the test in season 2. It would feel like too much of a waste to just have someone new out of no where to play as or push her back as a side character again. Plus I'm sure half the people that want a new protagonist just want to play as generic young white male like every other zombie game out there and that gets a little boring after a while.

  • Clem will NOT DIE!!

Stop with this posts!! Telltale can't change protagonist of the game right now, because otherwise we will not try anything for him or them ...

So, in my opinion, no, i don't like new protagonist idea!

    .

  • The funniest thing is, is that if Clem is Season 3 protagonist then what happens come round Season 3 episode 5? People won't want Telltale to kill off Clem and we'll be in the exact same position again.

  • In season 3 we play as Clem end of the story.

  • its the idea is if you kill off clementine and everyone from season 1 and 2 than its not a continuation its considered a reboot or a spin off you cant say that its season 3 cause as soon as you remove the important people of that game or show than the original story that started it is over you cant make a continuation on the story with a whole new cast it makes no sense so when you end all who started it you have to start over so the original story done you cant call this season 3 if no one survives its not season 3 someone from the last season has to move forward to even call it season 3 your allowed to have different people but you also have to have someone from the last season come back to make it a continuation if you just get a whole new cast and try to put them in the story it don't make any sense at all let me use this as an example lets say the series was about batman than he and everyone who was in it just dies and than next season lets say they throw in Spiderman as the next main character and he is continuing the story that batman left behind would it make sense to throw in Spiderman to continue what Batman did and don't just say no cause Batman is DC and Spiderman is Marvel I am just using an example and did not have to be Spiderman I could threw in Superman or WonderWoman the point is no don't work your throwing in characters who can not fit in a story that already went on or should I say that is already set it would mess up the story the point is we don't have to play clementine but she has to be in season 3 or someone from season 1 or 2 has to be there somewhere to consider this season 3 if you just throw in new people than its not a season 3 than its considered a reboot or a spin off to the story but to me I would rather play clem again cause that's who I liked the others were just ok but I don't want to play them so I would not be interested if it was someone else cause that's just me but some may feel that way or some may want to play as Kenny or luke and some want to play a whole different character some want total new characters but what they don't realize is that does not make it season 3 when you have all knew people it makes it something else either a reboot or a spin off and this is suppose to be season 3 so even if its not clem it has to be someone from season 1 or 2 and from where it stands there are not many left but you cant make it season 3 if it is not one of them you have to have someone or something that ties this in to as a season 3 story for the game

  • I want Clem as the protagonist for season 3 but I'm not completely against the idea of a completely new protagonist. I sort of want a Clementine trilogy, so by the end of season 3 she arrives at a safe place where she can stay and live as normal a life as possible. Then I wouldn't mind if they made a season 4 with completely new characters and story's. I just don't want Clem to become an NPC because all of our Clem's are different now.

  • We have invested so much time and emotion into Clem and her journey that I dont want to see her die or play another character.

  • I'm completely fine with a new protagonist. I would actually rather have a new protagonist.(not a Clem hater I just want to move on to a new experience)

The walking dead is the kind of game that can have multiple stories, characters and scenarios and never lose the magic, Clementine in season 3 or new protagonist it's ok, i'm sure it will have a big impact, if we get a new character of course we would miss Clem but that doesn't mean the season has to be bad, i'm sure Clem will live and we will have her many seasons more, if not Lee's sacrifice would be in vain, but if we get a fresh start i would be ok, or a new story back from day one with another characters and depending on our choices on Season 1 and 2 we can see things like the rv, the motel full of bullet holes, maybe even Lee and in some point we join Clem's group.

People who say they won't buy it are full of it. They say they won't buy it or play it, but they know they will. I do the same thing. Like with The Walking Dead TV show. I think, oh well, season 4 has gotten real boring I'm not going to watch it anymore... But as soon as Sunday rolls around...

  • It could be a great story. They've shown they can do that with S1. I just like her character too much. Have you ever seen The Land Before Time? It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Trading Clem out for another story line would be like kicking Little Foot out of The Land Before Time. It could still be a good show, but not the show I want.
