Just a thought...

To break free from some of the topics in this fourm.

I really feel the presence of Native Americans are absent in The Walking Dead (Comics, TV show, and Game) as being the first people to settle these lands, I feel they should get some recognition.

This thought came to me being half Cherokee and thinking that there hasn't been a Native American character in any of the series. Also since I feel the game is better than the show and comics I would like Telltale to break the mold and show some representation of our race.

  • Would be interesting, so long as they're not stereotypically magical. I'd hate to see some zombie "witch doctor" introduced.

  • I fully agree with you. The thing I fear the most is a fully stereotypical Native archetype.
I wouldn't care if he/she was a villain/protagonist/minor character just as long as the race is represented well.

yeah if they had a character like billy from the film predator that would be cool, he had such a cool voice

  • As stereotypical as he was, he would be badass. Would he be a villain or kind to Clem and her future group?

  • I thought Becca from 400 days had some Native American-ish features. She and possibly Shel could be part Native American. I guess you're thinking of a more explicit representation, though.

  • well someone like him would be a good guy, maybe he could be the lone survivor of another group that joins the protagonists group

  • It's a bit of a random thought, but why not? I wouldn't mind seeing a Native American character.

  • I think Eddie might be Native American.

  • I'm not saying they shouldn't have them, but I don't think it's possible for telltale to add every type of person (basing off of race, age, personality) like people expect them to do so. But it would be cool to see even more diversity.

  • That would be cool, or maybe he could be a survivor who leads Wellington?

  • I'm not saying you're wrong it just feels awkward with not too much diversity in races with the series in general especially considering how big of a melting pot America is.

  • It was a completely random thought, but it was based upon the fact that the series has never had a Native character.

Well, yeah. But I guess they just so many non-Native Americans in the US they just thought it was a matter of statistic (actually, they forgot and we know it). Still, I love how varied TTG's cast has been so far. To me, the example that shines the most is Omid. It's rare to see an Arab or Arab American (even if his family has been in the US for 100 years) be anything but a terrorist or disposable mooks in most videogames.

Honestly, what would frighten me about this it's that it could end up being done horribly. As much as I trust Telltale, there's always a chance they'll fall into the worst stereotypes or attempt to create a flashy or supposedly deep character that has nothing to do with Native Americans, yet claims to (if you have any kind of sensitivity towards your Cherokee half, don't ever watch The Lone Ranger). If this were to happen, it would have to either be done very well or have the character's origins be like Lee's race: something you get reminded of occasionally but is never considered important. But I'm with you, pal. I'm still waiting for a Latin American to join the group (Carlos was Spanish, that was close).

Good point! Well there's always a season three, i'm sure they'll have some more diversity in that season. Or hopefully.

  • I always assumed Carlos and Sarah were Latinos of Mexican descent, rather than literally being from Spain.

But it'd be great to have a Native character who's a fleshed out person. Not a walking stereotype who's 'closer to nature', but an American who's plausibly survived and struggled for over two years.

  • from 1:06 to 1:10, Eddie starts to scream if you don't take the gun, could that be like a cry from the tribe that he is from?

  • Lol, thanks. :p I'm just saying that since Season 1 started off with an African-American protagonist who wasn't an illiterate thug, they can try to present a Native American character who won't be limited by stereotypes.

  • To me it seems like a simple scream tribal war cries are typically more elaborate or involve a word or phrase from the tribe and it seemed to be just a scream.

  • I fully agree with you and yes I have very sensitive over my Cherokee half, but I do have a sense of humour on things. It would be neat though if the character spoke our native language, but that's reaching. I'd just be happy with a non-stereotypical representation of my people and or tribe.

To clarify the language that the Cherokee speak is a dying language, but it's taught on the rez and I am pretty fluent in the language.
