My concern for the community as well as myself

edited August 2014 in General Chat

Theres no dislike button anymore! I don't like to hate on threads, but why are the mods keeping us from expressing ourselves! Thats the beauty and purpose of the forums. We express, share ideas, and opinions. If we don't like a thread, or an opinion, why should we be afraid to say that we disagree? Its an opinion after another! Thats not bad.

  • Request of the community? Are you sure it's not like 5 to 7 members who couldn't handle being disliked?

  • Not everyone wanted the button to go.

How about we talk in sentences why we disagree rather than clicking a button?

Plus people spammed the dislike button for no reason.

  • keeping us from expressing ourselves

No one is keeping you from expressing yourself. There is such a thing like reply button. You know? Express yourself as much as you want

  • If somebody wants to express themselves by disagreeing with a comment, they can reply to that comment and explain why they disagree with it. It's not that difficult. Downvotes are useless, most of the time you get a downvote because somebody is too afraid to reveal themselves and explain why they disagree so they just downvote and move on.

  • Well, 5 to 7 members was wrong, but I'm pretty sure 39-50 people isn't even half the members of this forum.

  • if you don't like a thread then just leave without disliking or you can express it with words instead of disliking

  • If you dislike something, just discuss why you do instead.

The downvote button just led to accusations of trolling, and alternate accounts up the wazoo that only existed to downvote people out of spite.

People weren't using the downvote button correctly and some people took it offensively.

  • so less than 50% of the people decide for the entire forum?

I wouldn't say it was the right thing to do. Well, maybe...

There's a lot of kids in this forum.. so I don't know..

  • Thank you. You (and other people) are one of the few voices of reason left. It's a dying breed on these forums.

If you dislike something, just discuss why you do instead. The downvote button just led to accusations of trolling, and alternate accounts up the wazoo that only existed to downvote people out of spite.

What exactly is stopping you from expressing your opinion?
Just write a comment instead of downvoting.

  • its actually kinda funny people made multiple accounts just to downvote lol

If you dislike something, just discuss why you do instead. The downvote button just led to accusations of trolling, and alternate accounts up the wazoo that only existed to downvote people out of spite.

  • Some people use the dislike button to express their selves jeez.

  • Sayin it was the right thing is pretty subjective. I'd say it wasn't the right thing to do but I'm not going to say that my opinion is the best one.

  • That's not in our power. Moderators are volunteers, and not part of the web team, nor the staff elsewhere who want those features.

  • If you disagree, you should make a point about WHY you disagree.
If you get rid of the upvote button, you basically tell everyone to write a one word post: "Agree" beneath every post.

  • Two serious problems...

I don't really see how the upvote button would led to 'trolling', 'alternate accounts', or 'people not posting unpopular opinions' though.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I just wanted to point that out.

  • Or you could just say "I agree, I feel as if [insert reason here] and I think you presented that well"

  • Um, no, if they agree they can explain why they agree or they can say "I agree", same with dislikes, if you get rid of the dislike button, then you probably should get rid of the upvote button. but's that's not going to happen because sensitive people LOVE the upvote and can't handle being downvoted. :/

  • Yeah but that kind of is exactly what an upvote is for, don't you think?

I'm not saying it will, if long replies are now a big deal from now on, then there shouldn't be any vote buttons.

  • Yeah then why can't a down vote button be used for that exact same thing

  • sorry, but that is the same as saying "if you like something, just discuss why you did it" and we know nobody talks about every single like they do.

If you dislike something, just discuss why you do instead. The downvote button just led to accusations of trolling, and alternate accounts up the wazoo that only existed to downvote people out of spite.

  • Because it's been abused. And because if you don't agree, you should argue why.

Yeah then why can't a down vote button be used for that exact same thing

  • I think the mods did the right thing. Down votes lead to pissed off people. Id prefer happy people instead of pissed off. Wouldn't you?

  • Theres no dislike button anymore!

    Knock yourself out.

  • Yeah and if you agree you should state why

Well you should read the comments more carefully then.

    Here's a perfect example

I think a lot of people feel this way.

I don't really see how the upvote button would led to 'trolling', 'alternate accounts', or 'people not posting unpopular opinions' though. You are entitled to your opinion, but I just wanted to point that out.

  • Or you could just have somebody just post "disagree" and still not state why

Yeah and if you agree you should state why

  • Most people do as far as I can see. But the upvote button's not been abused so far.

Yeah and if you agree you should state why

  • Again what's stopping people from just posting "I disagree"

  • Why are people flipping their shit over the dislike button it isn't such a big deal... .-.

  • Well if you dont wanna hurt tblhe person's feelingd or dont want them to know who you are, then the button is much simpler

If replies are a big deal, then don't have any vote buttons.
