Most likely won't purchase next game. Spoiler alert
When I started the first game I was really excited. I had a lot of fun early game, then the game started getting a little sad with some people dying. By the end I was feeling depressed, and only wanted to finish to see what happened. Talk about sad!
I still bought episode 2. I didn't like playing a little girl but sucked it up. The game had some fun parts, but like the first game it started getting more hopeless, and in the last part turned into a complete depressed train wreck. It's like TellTale said "Hey you guys check this. People are fans of characters that aren't Clementine. We better fuck them up. Luke DEAD, Sarita DEAD, DEAD, DEAD, betrayal, and then at the end lets make them choose...... Make them choose who is going to die Jane, or Kenny. ha ha ha How dare they like the supporting cast!"
I buy movies, games, books for entertainment. I understand there will be parts that make you sad, or angry but at the end of the day you want to feel like it was a good purchase. Telltale in my opinion does one thing great, and one thing horrible. They are great at making characters feel real. You get to like them, and enjoy the game because of them. They are horrible at what the do with these characters. At the end of this installation I really just felt like the game isn't fun anymore. That I don't want to pay money for a game that I know the ending to. Sure I don't know how things will unfold but I pretty much know what the ending is going to be. What fun is that?
Spoiler alert Episode 3 everyone you like is going to die, betray you, or disappear. By the end of the game your character will be alone.

You mean season 1, 2, and 3.
So you don't like that the characters die? Were you familiar with The Walking Dead before playing the games?
Well, the redemption was killing Kenny. That made me a customer for season 3!
Oh and the dream Clem had with Lee. It was awesome to see, and hear Lee again. Yet it still made me feel crappy because it reminded me that he was dead.
I read the graphic novels when they were first coming out. Compared to this game those characters lived long, happy lives.
I'm sure Shane was really happy with that bullet in his neck.
Not all of them. But yeah, the games have a higher death ratio probably. I would advise against buying Game of Thrones when it comes out if it really bothers you that much.
You say it now. But I would almost bet that you will buy Season 3. Just to see what happen and just to get depressed again. As most ppl will, because ... it hurts, playing TWD mostly hurts, but man, it hurts so well.
Luke and Jane/Kenny. That's it.
Yeah.... Shane got killed at the end of the first comic. How many people got killed in this episode?
Luke and Jane/Kenny. That's it.
I might come back... If I find out they make changes like who the writers or head developers are I will most likely pick up season 3. If they talk about how they have made changes like your decisions are more meaningful, and they are more creative in how they deal with characters I will buy it... But I will also be waiting for reviews to see what people think where as before I didn't. I saw it coming out, and ordered... If it's more of the same I will just pass.
This is how these games are supposed to be. They don't kill characters because we like them, they do it because it is the APOCALYPSE, everyone is going to die eventually, it's just a question of when. These games are realistic(outside of the fact that it takes place in an apocalypse and Clementine has bouts of super strength).
If you don't like this type of game, fine, but there's no need to insult them. Episodes 3 and 4 of season 2 weren't the best these games have ever seen, but the games are still FAR from bad. They are absolutely amazing story-driven games. Just because you don't like the themes of sadness and hopelessness doesn't mean they are bad games.
Episode 2, not this latest DLC... All those killed in Episode 2
I'm getting confused right now...
In episode 2, Walter and Matthew died. If you make the ''wrong'' decisions, Alvin and Nick die as well.
Only 2 deaths if you don't mess it up.
Telltale and G.R.R.M. are in cahoots. Kill off all your favorite characters til only "bad guys" and a lone "good guy" remain. I swear we're only going to have Clem and Arya left at the end.
This season was a total let down.
Episode 1 was the entire first game with Lee. Episode 2 was this last entire game with all the downloads. Sorry for the confusion.
Just my opinion but it's more a symptom of bad writing, or not enough time to do it properly. The vast majority of movies / tv shows / books / games have a major character, and supporting characters. This genre is known for having lots of deaths but everyone either dies, betrays you, or goes missing? Really? Out of everyone not a single person left under good terms? Sarah finding family, and going separate ways was too difficult? A story that revolves completely around sadness loses it's affect because it becomes expected. If there are hopes of some people surviving it makes the deaths that much more meaningful.
Oh, it's actually called seasons. Each season has 5 episodes. Season 1 had Lee as protagonist, and Season 2 had Clem.
So i can't really do much of a headcount, but as a whole, the comic had over 80 dead characters, while the game barely reaches that amount of characters.
So yeah, people always died like that. It's The Walking Dead after all.
The graphic novel is like over 100 novels now. This is 2 games. To me 1 game is like one graphic novel. It's not just about how many people die. It's that everyone pretty much dies that you are on good terms with. Like everyone. They have yet to give anyone a happy send off. Like having Luke, and Jane leave the group together. Or Sarah running into some family, and going separate ways. The deaths in the game would actually be more meaningful because there would be hope some people got a good ending where there isn't any here. Just everyone dead.
GRRM is better at making us care about the characters before he kills them off, and better at making those deaths feel like they've advanced the storyline rather than just being used to clear out the cast so further books won't have to have as many characters.
And Johnny, don't forget about that unbelievably important character.
And Pete too, how could you forget him?
All in all 3 deaths for sure, and up to 6 possible.
HA
HAHA
You have a sense of humour.
K
If you think that people dying in this game is too sad and frequent, then don't even go near Game of Thrones lol
Yeah, they murderd the WHOLE cabin group..
Death is the main theme of The Walking Dead. And it actually always has been. Deal with it. It's not only Telltale that does it like this.
