[Spoilers & Kenny hate inside] All in all, worth it
I was really having a hard time getting through parts of the episode.
At times it felt like the "Babysit Kenny simulator 4500". Kenny this, Kenny that.
But in the end - it was all worth it. I could've suffered twice the amount of inane blabber from Kenny for the price of getting to shot him dead. I have been waiting something like 7 episodes (not counting S2E1) for the chance to get rid of him. I thought I succeeded in season 1, but at least this time there can be no doubt.
I know it seems crazy or stupid or whatever, but I really just couldn't stand him.
And finally; if you like(d) Kenny - good on you! I'm not trying to say that you're wrong or that I'm right. So by all means continue liking/having liked the guy.

I hate that the game didn't ever give you an option to agree with Jane, Mike and Bonnie that Clem shouldn't stick with Kenny. She only gets options like "Kenny's fine", or "I can fix Kenny", or a half-hearted "Maybe you're right... maybe you're not". The whole fight at the end, Mike and Bonnie's betrayal, Arvo being abused to the point that he'd shoot Clem, all of that could've been avoided if we weren't forced to stay with Kenny.
Even getting to shoot Kenny was annoying, because Clem always cries over his death, and Kenny was portrayed sympathetically in that scene no matter what. It doesn't matter that he left Lee to die multiple times. It doesn't matter that he abused Arvo when he was harmless. It doesn't matter what you think of Kenny, he's getting a dignified and sombre death no matter what.
It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth considering how cruelly Sarah and Nick were written off as people who never got the redemption they deserved. As far as I'm concerned, it would have been more in line with Kenny's established character if, as he dies, he remained furious and consumed by his rage. In his last moments he'd curse Clementine and Jane out for finally "showing their true colors." But instead, he regains lucidity just so you MUST feel bad about killing him.
Telltale wanted to have him become as twisted as Carver, but didn't have the guts to have him remain in the abyss. To be honest, I think it'd have been a braver move for them to commit to Kenny being irredeemable rather than absolve the faith of his fan-base - he's a classic example of an abuser, and we don't need yet another story to tell girls that they can redeem broken men if they try hard enough...
The writers of episodes 3 and 4 need to take lesson from Breckon on how to send-off determinant characters.
That's quite true.
I was also questioning why Clem was crying. I put it down to having to shoot a living human in general, rather than it being Kenny.
I did cave a little and told him he'd see Duck and Kat again - I figured I had finally gotten what I wanted, why not show a little compassion at the end.
No choice whether or not to cry for him though...
I may not agree with having Kenny killed off, but I understand what you're saying.
Telltale really left Clem's fate in our hands, including letting the players shoot the person whom they actually really liked or the character they really had come to hate.
That Wellington ending pretty much justified the actions of Mike & Bonnie (if saved).
It turned out to be a bust. That's why I hated it. It was emotional, but not the best ending for me.
I also find it very odd that Kenny was suddenly completely okay that Clem sided with Jane and shot him. What happened to the accusations of "Jane filling her head with bullshit"? Very out of character there.
I can't say I've seen that ending... I might have to watch it on youtube
Kenny has had my back the whole way through, right from day 1 from the first season.
Jane was trouble and I am glad I killed her.
Now if only I got the option to kill Bonnie, since it is her fault that the remaining episodes happen in the first place.
The man who freaks out at Clementine unintentionally killing his girlfriend is now okay with Clem siding with a woman who, as far as he's concerned, just murdered his son? Even disregarding the fact that he had a death-wish, I was expecting him to at least remain angry at Clementine rather than thanking her...
Really? Wellington might not be perfect, but it existed and really was the stable, well-maintained community that Christa and Kenny heard it to be. It's left up to the imagination whether it's any better or worse than Carver's community, but at least Clementine is arriving with no grudge towards the leader.
Cover Luke, and don't break the ice.
Bonnie will not re-surface.
By that logic, it's Kenny's fault for what happened past Episode 3, since he held up everyone's escape by dramatically standing over Carver and arguing with the group, dramatically threatening Carver and spouting cool one-liners, and dramatically killing Carver in the most drawn out method ever, leading to everyone getting shot at by Tavia and multiple deaths.
Personally, I don't think it was worth it. It wasn't worth most of an entire season's potential being flushed right down the crapper, and wasn't worth keeping a storyline going that didn't need continuation in the first place.
I know what you mean, though. Kenny being a prick every other second up until his death seemed to be Telltale's way of pushing us towards considering the possibility of putting him down in the end, thus making the final decision harder (although it was easier in my case). Well, they certainly succeeded at that. And of course, the writing still treats him like he was right in the end and is this tragic figure. The teenage victim of his bigoted, abusive, and violent outbursts? Shoots Clementine for no reason. The two most likable characters of episode 4 where Kenny was at his lowest point? Do a complete fucking 180. The long expected outcome to the Kenny and Luke dynamic? Never mattered, because Luke died long before that. The only other character standing by Clementine in the end besides Kenny? Is revealed to be horribly manipulative so we can all feel bad that Kenny was played for a fool in the end.
Ugh.
Well, at least they'd have that one bag of supplies to share between six people...
Suppose everyone went to Wellington... They find out they can't get in.
Now what?
Kenny: I'm sowwyy guys at least the baby's safe.
I have said this many times before, Alvin Jr is NOT the ONLY living thing in need of safety and shelter.
The alternative is Wellington itself collapsing. Kenny, a grown man who's already proven himself to be capable of surviving on his own (while going insane), is smart enough to realize that it's more important for children to survive than him.
Carver had a point when he said "tough is all we've got now." For all we know Wellington may very well be as strict as Carver's community was, but it's safer than being stuck out in the wilderness.
But Bonnie had no right to bitch at Clem like that though.
You nailed it. Despite all the horrible stuff he does in Episode 5 and the deliberate parallels to Carver, the writing ultimately absolves his abusive nature by showing the people who dislike him to be hypocrites. And every one of his final scenes portray him in a redemptive light, regardless of how utterly contradictory his behavior is compared to the violent, bigoted behavior he displayed throughout the rest of the episode.
Telltale wanted to have him delve into madness, but then come back from the darkness. And as far as I'm concerned, I'd have been happier if he'd stayed insane. Not every character deserves redemption, especially in a series like this.
But what ABOUT the others though? The group could've perfectly settled in Howe's Hardware and waited for the snow to clear in the north.
NINE EPISODES
NINE FUCKING EPISODES OF 'KENNY'S PSYCHIATRIST SIMULATOR 2012'
DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS DAY
A LONG TIME TELLTALE A LONG TIME
Ding dong the bitch is dead. You're the bitch Kenny. Yes you are, yes you are, good insane puppy.
^All my opinion, of course. :333333333333333333333333333333333 kiss kiss
If you value actions more than words, then you're still right about Kenny.
Still doubt that Kenny was a creator's pet? Watch the scene where Clem shoots Kenny, then leaves Jane. Now watch the scene where Clem lets Jane die, then leaves Kenny.
Jane gets about two lines pathetically begging Clem to forgive her. Kenny gets a five minute scene where he selflessly tells Clem that she's absolutely right to leave him because he's crazy, and to protect AJ and be the best big sister ever, complete with heartbreaking violin music.
Suppose everyone went to Howe's...and Tavia turns out to be alive, and hungry for revenge.
No matter who you side with, you're taking a long shot.
Kenny: I know exactly what you are. Nothing. Nobody cares about you, and you care about nobody but yourself. And that makes you nothing.
Keep in mind Kenny said this before Jane bashed her dead family. I see the Kenny favoritism now.
Also, Clementine says they should go back to Howe's Hardware.
Kenny: Oh I get, you're both teaming up on me. She's filling your head with bullshit, Clem
Jane: Let her think for herself.
See. Everytime. Everytime. It's Kenny guilt-tripping you.
Well, at least they would've gotten that one bag of supplies to share between six starving people...
I doubt most Kenny fans listened to this line, even Rebecca showing remorse when she said such thing.
I knew she wasn't alive because there were walkers in the roof.
Don't try to reason with them. they're too far gone.
That is completely on Arvo. I don't know why so many of you are intent on acting like that boy didn't have it out for Clem ever since his beloved "Natasha" got put down. It was annoying enough seeing the characters act like he didn't just try to screw them over to cover his own ass. That was the main sticking point for me this episode precisely because it undermined their complaints against Kenny.
I do agree on having a number of instances where the choices seemed unsatisfactory though.
I walked through heavy snowfall before. It is fucking torture if you do not have the right equipment.
I doubt Arvo would've shot Clem if Kenny hadn't horribly abused him to his breaking point, and if Clem had been given the opportunity to explain to him that his sister had turned. It was obvious with how he was desperately pumping her chest that he was convinced Natasha was alive. He didn't even see her turn because Kenny was holding him hostage, he only saw Clem shoot her in the face and nothing else.
Jane could've fell, and lost sight of the baby due to heavy snowfall.
To me, it was very important that Kenny heard Jane out...
Kenny finding the baby..
Clementine: You didn't have to kill Jane..
Kenny: She was nuts, Clem. A disturbed person that had her own agenda, and was looking out for herself.
Wow, the deeper I analyze the endings, I can clearly see how we're forced to side with Kenny. If you been paying any attention to Jane, you know that isn't true.
Hmmmm, she did lie and manipulate both Clem and Kenny, and it seemed like she planned to kill Kenny, though yeah they both aren't very healthy.
Damn,I wish there's a dialogue option like "Take a look at the mirror for what you just said,Kenny".
Huh, I guess that's why I prefer Kenny's leave Clem ending, it feels more emotional than Jane's, which is kind of annoying.
Jane: It was an accident, Kenny..
Kenny: That's NOT TRUE!
Kenny kills Jane and tries to convince Clementine
Clementine: You were right about her.. she was unstable.. always looking out for herself
Clementine shoots Kenny
Jane: I just thought if you saw Kenny like that ... you'd know we have to leave him.
THE FOLLOWING DIALOGUE OPTIONS
I don't understand
I can't believe he's alive
You're fucking crazy..
Silence
Notice how we do NOT get to side with Jane. Notice how we're made to feel bad for Kenny because he was the victim.
This sucks man..
He technically was.
