So, what's next from Telltale Games?

edited July 2016 in General Chat

This is a general Telltale release agenda that I compiled, plus a little more from Telltale sources.

This is not a suggestion thread. If you want to propose ideas of new series to Telltale, see the 'Telltale should make' generic thread.

Summer 2016

Late 2016

2017

  • A new game series in the Marvel universe, for 2017.

No date (but in the plans)

  • Game of Thrones Season 2 (announced here), under development. There will probably be more seasons due to a "multi-year, multi-title" deal between Telltale and HBO. Pre-Season News Thread
  • A new IP from Telltale !, "the first franchise the studio has ever created" as per Kevin Bruner.

No date (and not in the known plans) (just talks from TTG staff)

  • A small pilot program style game with Sam and Max
  • Tales from the Borderlands - Season 2: although nothing's announced, due to the apparent success of the first season, it may happen. Official Waiting Thread
  • The Wolf Among Us Season 2 : some hints exist that this may happen somewhere in 2016 (These lips are sealed)
  • Dream Licences: James Bond games: Kevin Bruner of Telltale said in January 2014 he'd like to make a game off of that franchise. He repeated this statement in March 2016, also stating again that for him, Star Wars, among a few others, was a dream franchise to work with. Knowing that they got Marvel and Batman, compared to the old days of Sam and Max, nothing's absolutely out of reach from Telltale nowadays.
  • Back to the Future Season 2 : season 2 had already been planned (production was maybe even started) before TTG moved to their new timed decision engine. This led to project stop / reschedule, with rumours of possible 2015 release. Now that 2015 is well over, the odds of seeing anything related to BTTF got thinner.

Cheers,
GK

Past releases (that I took note of):

  • 2016-06-08 - Minecraft - Story Mode - Episode 6 on 8
  • 2016-04-26 - The Walking Dead - Michonne Miniseries - Episode 3 on 3
  • 2016-03-30 - The Walking Dead - Michonne Miniseries - Episode 2 on 3
  • 2016-03-29 - Minecraft - Story Mode - Episode 5 on 8
  • 2016-02-24 - The Walking Dead - Michonne Miniseries - Episode 1 on 3

Mod note:

Using this thread to speculate Telltale's future plans is fine as that is what this thread is about. However, if you just want to suggest games for Telltale to make, please stick to using the "Generic Telltale Should Make" thread instead. Thanks! - Blind Sniper

  • Star Wars wasn't really hinted at; it was just Telltale stating one of their "dream franchises" to work on. If you want to go off that, you could also include "James Bond" under "later maybe" as Kevin Bruner of Telltale stated in January he'd like Telltale to make a game off of that franchise.

Of course, however, the point is to take those statements with a grain of salt. Until Telltale officially confirms a game announcement, don't believe that Telltale saying they'd like to make a game about Star Wars/James Bond/etc is any indication of Telltale's actual plans to come. :)

  • Like Blind Sniper said, Star Wars is a dream game but they are having trouble getting copyright information so its unlikely we will see one for a while. Other than that, Tales from the Borderlands is coming much sooner than we have realized, Game of Thrones is probably coming around Christmas (Winter is Coming) and Walking Dead s3 in late 2015. Hopefully we get a DLC for Wolf and Walking Dead as well.

  • Has their been any hints about the Wolf Among Us, or Night at the Inventory followups? Any DLC's being hinted at for any of the franchises that I've missed?

  • Nothing you have missed unfortunately :(. Maybe we will hear something at PAX Prime, but I'm hoping for a DLC for Wolf as well to be released sometime in the fall/winter

  • Give me a Breaking Bad game or a Harry potter telltale game would be awesome.

Sam & max season 4 would be cool too.(I want them to put season 3 on Xbox marketplace.)

  • A Breaking Bad game where we play as Jesse after the show would be awesome =O

  • Is Back To The Future Season 1 like The Walking Dead?

  • It has a more serious storyline than other telltale games before it. But there are no timed choices or decisions. It's a really good game though.

On the bright side, Kevin Bruner did say that a future small pilot program style game with Sam & Max would likely be coming from Telltale, so that can be added to the "probably coming" list.

  • Please, Telltale, just get the Bond Licence and make a proper videogame with Bond. Kevin Bruner was totally right with his opinion about 'making Bond mass murderer' in games and I believe that TTG would do a splendid job.

  • Please Make The Wolf Among Us Season 2

  • A Bond game is something else they would like to do.

Just thinking out loud, but something I think they could do really well is a Under the Dome game.

  • We already have a "Generic Telltale Should Make" thread in Telltale Talk. Please keep game suggestions there, and speculation about Telltale's future here. Thanks!

  • I really think Telltale could pull off a Lost game, its pretty similar to twd.

  • I would love a Telltale Game based on Stephen Kings Dark Tower Series

  • A Sin City game by Telltale would be AMAZING!

  • I would really love to see a Back to the Future season 2. I really enjoyed season 1. So there was a rumour about it huh? I haven't seen that

  • Poker Night is my favourite Telltale franchise, and I believe that a third game will come sometime next year (or maybe this year if we're lucky). Telltale have already hinted at the possibility several times.

Also, I had no idea that Back to the Future Season 2 was even an idea! I thought the Back to the Future game was just a one off deal. I think it could be pretty interesting though. After pissing about with the timelines for so long, Doc and Marty could eventually end up stranded in the universe of the crappy Back to the Future NES game.

Christopher Lloyd said he was going to be playing Doc Brown in another Back to the Future game from Telltale at the Fan Expo in Canada in 2012. Seeing as Telltale's game design strategy has shifted after the success of The Walking Dead, it's not surprising that it's taken this long for the season to be made (they probably did a major rehaul of the game design, like they did with The Wolf Among Us). The date of 2015 has just been tossed out since it's the perfect time to release it, since the year is an important part of the Back to the Future film series. :)

They have indeed said that more Poker Night style games will probably be coming in the future.

I'd love to see a return to The Inventory, but I'd prefer a different game rather than poker this time around. We've already had three Telltale poker games, so it's time for another genre of game to get the Telltale treatment. In the first Poker Night, Reginald Van Winslow said that The Inventory was built for games, as it was below the original location of Dick and Kent's Games and Amusements factory, so Telltale has pretty much free range when it comes to choosing the genre for their next game. :)

  • A batman game could be badass

  • I hope season 3 would be develope a lot of characters.... And telltale should do another game series ...

  • Just updated the main post with the current situation (waiting for ep. 2 of Tales from the Borderland, Game of Thrones, season 3 of The Walking Dead, Season 2 of Back to the Future), maybe I could add a season 2 of TWAU but I don't remember TTG committed on this.

  • I would like a horror story game, Something scay, kind of like the first level of The evil undead.

  • Sure that would be nice, Phantasmagoria like :) or Gabriel Knight style (episode 2, the third was a complete fail). However if you want to be heard, there's a thread dedicated to 'what we would like TTG to release', whereas here I'm willing to keep track on what we're actually waiting, in other words on what TTG has said they would or they may do in a short or less short future.

  • Updates to the topic with links to waiting threads + the "New IP" project...

  • Game Of Thrones Season 2 seems likely considering TTG signed a multi-year, multi-title deal with HBO like they did for TWD.

  • Sure, thanks for this good remark, I will mention this. I'm sooo focused on the current season episodes !!

Up until they started using a new iteration of the engine with Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, all Telltale games have used the same engine; they just switched the gameplay style that they use to design their games.
