Telltale wanted us to hate and give up on kenny

They wanted us to see kenny in a different way, a more aggressive, unpredictable way. To be honest it worked, their was times when I was genuinely scared of what he was going to do next. But I remember when I first saw him in season 1 and how well he got on with lee and clem, he really is a great guy that just cared for is family's safety. He has been through alot shit and I was going to stick with him to the very end. With everything that he has done, right or wrong, he's done it to protect the people he cares about and trusts. I never gave up on him. Now kenny, clem and aj are together surviving as a family. Lee would be happy.

  • Well they had to make the choice difficult right? I doubt Telltale wanted us to hate him since most TTG staff adore old Ken Ken

There is something I don't understand. Since the moment Clem joined back with Kenny, the game pushed us to a make choice between Luke and Him. Then in Ep5 they just killed Luke off just like that, right then it seemed like Luke's role (of opposing Kenny) transferred to Jane. Why? Wouldn't Luke vs. Kenny choice be much more brutal? It would surely make it harder for me.

  • Ever since he was re-introduced in Season 2, almost everyone was opposed his ideas.

However rash he may be, that kind of stuff gets to a person.

I guess it was too predicting, plus with all their bickering. Why not have them be friends instead of rivals? It would make the choice harder and I think there won't be "Kenny is better." or "Luke is better." all the damn time.

  • Shock value I guess. I think most of the fan base had decided on who to side with in that scenaio, replacing Luke with Jane made more people re-evaluate their loyalty.

  • Why couldn't Jane be the one who drowned, then have Luke, Clem, and Kenny bond over things and have of them become good friends, it doesn't have to fight, just save one of them from a zombie or something.

I could never hate or give up on Kenny.

    I agree.

I think a lot of the dialogue in season five was geared towards trying to manipulate you into turning against him.
I DID shoot Kenny...but I defended him most always or tried at least to get people to stop doubting him and reassure them he's an OK guy he'll bounce back. I think the main two reasons I did it, was not because I hated him or didn't trust him, but because he was about to kill someone. I didn't let my Clementine watch Carver die. I don't think she's ruthless yet. I went with what Lee said that sometimes we have to hurt people. ALSO, Kenny went through enough BS. I felt like it was a mercy kill.

Kenny was a good guy though. I got a knot in my throat when he was dying. I guess I just felt like Clementine is a defender. She's not one to look away when bad is about to happen. She's a take action sort of girl. I understand everyone who saved him out of loyalty too though. I like that we all got to pick our own ending/Clementine.

  • You wouldnt give up on him if he killed Clementine?

(NOT saying he will or would just asking if it happened)

I could never hate or give up on Kenny.

  • I guess that makes sense. But Luke deserved a more memorable ending. It felt like Jane stole his place. But that's just my opinion.

  • Well Telltale failed if that was their true intentions. I ended up liking Kenny even more than I did in Season 1, and he's officially become my favorite character of Season 2.

I played Clem just like that. Tried to keep her as good hearted and kind as possible, but that scene felt so set up I couldn't help but blame her for what happened. She ignored all my warnings about not to push Kenny, she ignored my pleas to stop the fight (actually shoved me to the ground when I tried to stop them). She seemed much more like the aggressor side in the fight, pulled out a weapon, wounded Kenny, gouged his eye and kept trying to infuriate him even further by goading him. What was the point? That could all be avoided if she never resorted to such a deceitful plan to just to make her point. At any point she could tell the truth and end it. And then when I picked up the gun she said "Clem, help me". She just told me to stay out of it? I thought she brought this on herself so I looked away. I liked her though.. It wasn't a pretty choice for me. But Kenny didn't deserve it (in my humble opinion).

  • Kenny being aggressive and unpredictable is not a new thing. Remember how he was acting through the boat fiasco and how he and Lilly were pushing each other's buttons, and how he tried to beat the crap out of Lee on the train?

I get that. As soon as she slashed him I sat up straight like "OH NO YOU DIDN'T!"

The eye gauge was disgusting! AND the whole time I knew the baby was OK because of the way she said to "trust her" and "You'll see." I was thinking...Well, you're an idiot.

I guess another determining factor for me was, the little Carver in me. I felt like Jane and I were more equals vs Kenny being my end-all-be-all protector. Like, the rum, I thought it was OK for Clem to have a sip. Then he gives me this disaproved look. In real life, I had my first beer at 11 a neighbor's boyfriend gave it to me (sounds creepy, wasn't). My first shot of rum at 13 from my mother because she though it would be funny to see my reaction in front of her friends so I purposely didn't react....like a bad@ss little Clem. Haha. I didn't kill Kenny over Rum...just freedom, I suppose. He'd be free of burden and I'd be free of him.

I went with Jane. NOT because I forgave her or trust her in anyway...she's impulsive and as reckless as Kenny. I only went with her because I didn't think an 11 year old and a baby should be on their own. Grim-chances.

Part of me felt like staying with him out of loyalty or his love for me or my love for him was like an abusive relationship. Sure he's unpredictable at times, sometimes he lashes out and hits people, he's never purposely hurt me, sure he says mean things to me sometimes, puts me down, but he's really a good guy. He loves me when it's convenient. He'll do anything for me.

LOL....sorry, harsh. I watched the Kenny endings...they were very touching. I'm not a Kenny hater.

  • You say lee would be happy, but he is different in all of our play throughs. It would make sense that Kenny got unstable, with all he went through, him being perfectly okay would not be normal.

  • And anytime I think that, about ANY of the characters who are acting out (ex.Sarah) I'm like....Sure, I get it...you're sad. Clementine lost both of her parents, saw them as walkers, they MAY have even come after her while she was trying to rescue barely conscious Lee. And then she lost Lee too.She lost the only people that meant anything to her in life and she's not being a big baby about it.

I understand your decision, I didn't mean to judge by the way, I just wanted to share mine. It's understandable that you connected with her and made your choice accordingly. I liked Jane too, but like you said through out the fighting scene I was keep thinking what an idiot she was for doing what she did. I wish no one had to die, that we could somehow stop them and got a choice to go with whoever we wanted. On a side note, my dad gave my first alcohol when I was twelve, just to see my face. Heh, I guess it was pretty bad because I remember him laughing so hard hehe.

  • To be honest, Kenny was one of the things that irked me this season. The relationship felt kind of forced because I didn't enjoy his character, and I thought a lot of his screen time could have been used for the other characters. I still like him, but he definitely wasn't in my top ten characters of season 2 list.

  • It most definitely did, my friend haha. I recognized it immediately. Nice to meet a fellow Star Wars nerd on here. Assuming that you are one, I mean.

  • Well, let's just say I shot Kenny and don't regret it. Oh, and my Lee left Lilly behind, so I think he would think that Clem did the right thing.

  • Indeed I am, mate :) Nice to meet you too!
