Would you recommend the TV series?

  • As a fan of the games and the comics, I think the show is amazing. They just really suck at "filler moments" and sometimes with the consistency of the characters. The show's biggest problem is that they change show runners A LOT, so the pacing is really inconsistent.

Season 1: GREAT season. To this day I still think the pilot episode is a master piece. And the season as a whole is a perfect combination on drama, action, character building ect. The CDC episode is kinda "Eh", but it had a great ending. Besides, even the game has "Eh" moments.

Season 2: The season premier and the follow up episode are both awesome. Than from episode 3 to the midseason finale is where the infamous "season 2 drag" pops up. Now those episodes still have their key moments (the ending scene of the midseason finale in particular), but yeah, that drag area is definitely the low point in the series (mostly because the focus on a character named Laurie and all of her uninteresting bull shit. And than the second half of the season is consistently good I'd say. 18 Miles out is probably the best episode of the second half.

Season 3: Another awesome season premier, and the first half of the season together is pretty great. "Clear" is the standout episode of the season in my opinion. The main problem with this season, is that the new showrunner had a horrible tendency to kill off characters left and right just for shock value. We lost a lot of potentially good characters with absolutely no character development before hand, so you don't really care who gets killed. The story of season 3 is fine, but you only care about a handful of people involved in it. Which is why the Season 3 show runner was fired : /

Season 4: Me personally, I think this is the best season. It pretty much does everything the second half of season 3 didn't do, which is make you give a damn about the characters* while* telling a great story.

All in all, its a matter of preference. I will say that you shouldn't go in expecting the character building and story telling of the game, just like tv show & comic fans shouldn't approach the game expecting it to be action packed and gritty. I'd recommend you just watch season 1 on Netflix and see how long it keeps a hold of you.

  • I honestly don't get all the hate on the show. Its one of the best stories being told atm in my opinion.

  • Well wrote, man.

  • Fireing Frank Darabont and cutting their budget literally ruined the whole series. But the worst part about this is, the show is still successful.

    AMC won!

  • I dont think of it that way. We really get two mini seasons per year and each one has it's own arc. I wouldn't want to lose a single episode.

  • Its a good thing you werent around when the show first started. Season 1 was taking a lot of lumps, believe me. I spent a lot of time defending it on the message boards but I stuck with it because I knew it was a good show with a lot of potential.

You can't go wrong with Season 1, I haven't heard a bad complaint about it yet. Season 2 - Bit slow depending on some people's opinion, i

  • Crap! I thumbed that up by mistake. I meant to reply and ask you what you consider unnecessary drama in a drama show?

To simplify, if you can handle unnecessary drama blatantly used to draw in certain demographics you will probably enjoy the show.

  • I dont either, especially the "season 1 was the best, the rest is garbage" people, makes me wonder how much people really watch.

Personally I liked the pacing of the first season, because there wasn't a dull moment. And I think that many people stopped watching to Season 2. However I want to point out that most people don't seem to hate Seasons 3 and 4, but they just think that the story drags occasionally.

  • I'd recommend the TV Show over the comic. Aside from Season 2, which is a bit slow in its first half, but has some really good episodes later one, the show mostly does every single storyline from the comics better, this is especially seen in Season 4, which is the best so far.

What's with the comic disfavor? I love it.

For me, it's Comic > Game > Show.

But you know what they say, it takes diff'rent strokes to move the world.

  • IF you enjoy first season, you might want to keep watching. 2nd season is pretty shit but it has its moments and it slowly gets better over the next 2 seasons.

i have to disagree with you there the tv show have done some better but not mostly all of them the governor story arc was handled better in the comics imo, david morrissey was what saved the governor on the tv show and there was no need for that story arc to go into season 4 but they handled things like shane and the marauders (joe's group) better on the tv show and we will find out who handles the hunters better in 2 weeks

  • Why season 2 gets all the shit? Just asking.

  • I'd recommend you to read the comics instead.

  • Take the show for what it is, and enjoy it. It's not the best, and will probably piss you off at times, but hey, it's enjoyable at times. Just go into it with a mindset of not wanting to nitpick.

  • oh idk maybe because they spent 11 episodes on a farm looking for a already dead girl

  • The FIRST half of Season 4? Give me the second half! Some of the best episodes ever in the second half. Of course there's one of the best ever in the first half...OK, I'll take the whole thing.

  • I like the show and the comics both. As far as the show goes:

    Season 1: Awesome.
Season 2: The first few episodes are good, and then there's a long stretch with a lot of personal arguments and not much action.
Season 3: Things get moving again and there are some really good episodes like "Clear."
Season 4: Both halves are pretty good, but for me the second half was the best because it mixed things up in terms of what "the group" consisted of, and also did a lot of excellent character development. My two favorites are "Still" and "The Grove."

I've enjoyed it most when I didn't pay attention to fan hate. Fan hate only makes sense when you agree with it. All seasons have some really good acting. I do have to mention, Andrew Lincoln's American accent needs a lot of work and so does whatsername's who plays Maggie. They should have studied with David Morrisey who plays the Governor (he's a Brit too, but I like his Elvis-meets-Clint Eastwood take on American accents!). If terrible American accents drive you crazy, you might have an issue. Otherwise, invest a couple of hours watching the first two or three episodes on Netflix. If nothing else, it's a great way to burn a Saturday afternoon.

  • Well...

    Season 1 is great.

    Season 2 is garbage.

    Season 3 is good.

Season 4 is better than Season 2.

  • Most people didn't like the fact that the majority of the season is based in one location, and this had a lot to do with AMC (money grubbing bastards) cutting the budget. So coming off the high of Season 1 which bounced from one location to the next a fair amount, this was a huge let down to most folks. From a realistic stand point it made sense, since these characters are supposed to be looking for a safe haven, so naturally when a place is relatively walker free, they're gonna wanna stick around, but from a storytelling stand point, it was like watching grass grow.

I will say that people over exaggerate how much downtime Season 2 really had though. I'm re-watching seasons 1-4 on Netflix now, and its really just episodes 4-6 that drag ass, and even those episodes have good character moments. Just not a whole lot of walker action, which frankly, is what we all came to see.

  • I think the TV Show did the Governor WAY better than the comics. The Governor is, in my opinion, one of the worst villains in the entire Walking Dead Franchise, the comic version that is.

Looking at Season 1, I liked the addition of Merle, there were more things going on in Atlanta, and of course, Shane.

Season 2, despite being very, very, very slow, a lot of the storylines and characters were handled better. Hershel being the biggest, Shane as well, the walkers in the barn. A lot of the bad stuff was crap they threw in, nothing from the comics.

Season 3, we have Morgan(clear was one of the best episodes), The Governor is done WAY better, in every way, I can't think of one thing about the Comic Governor that was better, The prisoners were handled about as well, the one thing I fault them on is Rick going insane after Lori's death. Just... that was bad.

    Season 4, Everything. Literally everything.

I liked both S1 and S2 very much, so I recommend them

If you find youre hooked enough by the end of S2, you may as well keep watching at that point. I mean, its not like its garbage, but its not great, seems to be getting very cliche to me.

In addition, ill say the premiere is quite boring, BUT you should see the potential in it and the next 3 episodes were probably the best of the series

  • People overexagerrate the Farm thing. A lot more happened in that season than people want to think, particularly in the second half.

  • I dont see how many people did like it. Its really just Rick wandering around with a freak show expression, I wont give away more because somebody is asking if we recommend it or not, but yeah, nothing really happened.

  • yep. season three was mazarra biggest shit on the show. jesus Christ fuckin mazarra. season two had its moments but it most have been the budget deduction that caused it to sucked. season four was great all season I had my problems with the pace in the last episodes bu they were the best in character development. I love the crazy lil shit of lizzie. but I think they tried to clean up mazarra's huge shit and they kinda suffered cuz of that but still great season. idk what to expect of season five. I think they might reach the ASZ at mid season. idk.
