Yeah but part of the computer holds the programs, so if that part survives, so do the programs. If a computer dies after years of being used, can you not recover the data on it if it is intact? So if the brain is still intact, why isn't the consciousness?
Besides, there's probably a few things that simple defy the rules of science. Perhaps saying that does make me religious in a way.
Why do we have to go somewhere? Our consciousness is housed inside our brains. We can actually alter our conscious experiences by directly m… moreanipulating the brain. So once the brain is destroyed, the consciousness housed in it is also destroyed. Just like if you smash a computer to pieces, the program inside ceases to exist.
That quote is, I think, referred to as Pascal's wager, and it doesn't make much sense because you wouldn't 'find out' there's nothing in the… more end if you believed your whole life as being dead is very much a non-experience. And what about believing and then finding there is a god, and not believing and there being no god? Seems to me that wager has only a 25% chance of paying off well for the living, and a 50% chance of being favorable for having good reason to just live as if there is no god, so I don't think a coin toss is much to argue about if it matters to people that much. Plus, according to scripture (if I recall), it wouldn't matter if you didn't believe in god your whole life only to find out there is one because as long as you don't renounce god in Jesus' name, you'll be forgiven.
So if the brain is still intact, why isn't the consciousness?
Well the brain of a dead person isn't intact. That was my point. Brain cells die pretty rapidly without oxygenated blood. Once this happens, that's that. Game over. It makes sense to me.

(I got your reply in my notifications thing, But it won't show up here for some reason) But yeah, I am a little scared too. I don't know if you live in the U.S or not, but someone brought Ebola into Texas. So I'm a little worried now
I wouldnt worry, (I know im jumping in) the ebola "zombies" according to the reports have returned to normal life. I doubt this a little especially after what the body does after death. I think they are a little off physically and personally, they might have tests run on them, but normal life none the less.

I assume there would be some sort of afterlife, I refuse to believe that it's just lights out after you die. I assume you reincarnate into another human, animal... Or your soul just roams around the earth for all eternity. Or maybe you will just get your own personal heaven. Who really knows what the next life will hold for us.

what if when we die we'll wake up and this life would all be a dream and we'll be all hot and live a perfect life or bad life (depending on … morehow you're living your life right now) everything would be the complete opposite.
another theory is you wake up or go at the moment where the cause of death was and avoid it so you can continue living on in a different universe like nothing ever happened but us in the universe you died in continues.

I believe in God though i'm not sure if he's like religions depict him, personally i think there's some sort of afterlife i don't know how but i know there is.
Well of course I'm not 100% sure, but there is no evidence to the contrary. Ever heard of Occam's razor? Why make up more complicated ideas when a much simpler one makes complete sense.
To be honest, eternal life sounds like the worst kind of torture. It would probably drive most people insane, especially if it was a classic 'worship this god for eternity'. How fucking boring
If Reincarnation is true then I wonder what my past self was like. I could have been anybody George Washington or a World War 2 pilot. If anybody here was a Nazi during World War 2 i'm sorry if I kiled you maynnn . Just trying to protect mah country Merica!!!!
All evidence points to the idea that consciousness is an emergent property of the brain. If this is accurate then it would make sense for "your perspective" to cease to exist when your brain is destroyed.
There's no reason to suspect that anything magic happens.
I don't want that mayn. I hope there's a afterlife where I can meet my family again but if it really is goodbye forever then damn I guess I'm to late to spend time with my father.

I'd "like" for there to be some kind of afterlife. It's a nice thing to think about. Unfortunately what we want doesn't have any effect on what's real. No amount of wishful thinking will make it so that we can "sidestep" death.
I think it's important to face reality for what it (probably) is. Pretending that we don't "really" die when we do undermines how "important" death actually is. Things like war, for example, are "much" easier to accept when you don't think that the people that are killed lose absolutely everything they will ever have.

There's a ton of stuff that science can't explain. That's why I debate my science teachers so much. Because a lot of science just doesn't make sense to me. A lot of people (especially my atheist friends) say that science is easier to make sense of than religion, and I respect that, but it's the complete opposite for me.
That's why I think we go somewhere or something happens. Even if it's just a dream sort of thing, I think something happens that science just can't explain.
Yeah. I honestly don't bother with science at times. Science can't tell us why reality even exists. Science only has theories on how humans exist. While it's a good theory, there's no way to prove it. I believe that a lot happens because of the supernatural, or something similar, but in this day and age where any image can be manipulated, it's hard to prove any point other than "science solves it all"

It's a quote by Albert Camus.

Let's ask this guy
If I were those scientists, I honestly would just kill the guy again, don't take a risk and start the ZA.
I don't know, I saw this on The Whatever's on your mind Megathread, so I thought this was a good place to post that.
I'm honestly sort of scared now.
Same. And Do you know if the guy stayed alive for a while after he came back to life? Did he just die, come back alive and die again or....

I'm still scared of Ebola, but that's really interesting.
We are all scared of death, thats one of my major fears.
But hey...You might come back. XD
fake
I was unaware of that. But again, surely there are some things that science cannot explain.
I've thought about that second theory too. It's not impossible. Aren't multiple universes theoretically possible.
This is fake, confirmed by snopes
It would be scary if it was real though.
I think the most possible theory is indeed reincarnation as a different person or animal and having no memory of your past life.
Hahaha XD

I dunno I kinda think we die and then we are born again without any memories of this life but yeah it's pretty stupid

Our corpse will decompose into nothing
It's fake?! Thank god, I don't need to be more paranoid then I already am.
I think the question was referring to our consciousness, not our physical bodies.
Um, the Bible verse that says, "Your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise," is NOT Isaiah 26:19-20, but rather Isaiah 26:18a (NAB)!
Your family will shit bricks for a while.
Afterlife
Here it is, just for you.
Hey! Youre the asshole who shot me when I was putting my gun down!
Yeah I was that Italian soldier, you know I had a family...Feel bad.
No clue. I believe in some sort of afterlife though. Maybe when we die aliens take us or something. I don't know.
Well in that case, nothing.
Hey, maybe I actually was a Nazi!
If so, thanks for shooting me down! :P
No really, thank you, wouldn't want to be one xD
