I agree with BigBlindMax here; I'm not Israeli, so I'm not sure how things are on the ground there, but that certainly is used in the United States to jam conversation. There are a lot of anti-semitic assholes (I watch RT's Crosstalk, and the comments section (and at times the guests) is full of them o_0), no doubt; but oftentimes those people are used to silence people legitimate criticism of Israel's foreign affairs; including the War in Gaza this year. I know the opinion of Jewish people worldwide is diverse, and in Israel public opinion similarly divided. It's a difference of opinion, and to bring race into it is not only morally wrong, it's factually incorrect. But, at least in the United States, people who criticize Israel policy are often accused of anti-semitism or of being an 'Islamic apologist'

It may vary, but most people do not know the truth, most people just think "DURRRR ISRAEL BOMBS BABIES IN GAZA HURRRR", they don't know the war, they don't know the constant threat cloud that lives above our head, they do not know that Israel is trying it's best to NOT harm any civilians, but Gaza is the most populated place on earth compared to it's size, and Hamas is firing rockets from schools, apartments, hospitals and religious centers, ALL FUNDED BY THE UN THEMSELVES, so most people do not have the right to judge Israel's actions outside of Israel, because the American media is twisted, and is twisting reality itself, I am saying this because I live in Israel, and I know what is really happening.

A person can only judge us when he knows the truth, most Americans in this case, do not, if you do your research, you'd see who's the humane side in this war.

You can't make a claim like that without serious evidence. I'm rather familiar with UN beurocracy and it's impossible for those guys to decide why to eat for breakfast, let alone deciding who to support in a war.

It's laudable that Israel gives prior warning of airstrikes and takes other precautions, but Gaza is so tightly packed that civilians often have nowhere to run.

Also, US citizens have every right to criticize Israeli policy, seeing as they're our biggest recipient of military aid. These on again off again conflicts are partly bankrolled by US taxpayers and we damn well have the right the right to express whether or not we approve of how it's being used.

  • Some prejudices are pretty ingrained in our psychology, to the point where they influences our knee jerk, subconscious reactions. Those are hard to get rid of, even if you're aware that they might be there. At best, you can try to consciously compensate for those a bit, but in the end, you just kinda have to accept that everybody's a little racist.

For fun, you can check out this online test to see if you have any prejudices yourself: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/

Still, we are not monsters like the Hamas.

There is evidence for it, it's not released to the public but the military had gained the information about them, it's true, no one would make such a thing up, we're not making information up.

They can criticize us, but they do that for the wrong reasons, the US citizens (most of them) don't even know how it's being used, they all think it's just going to the funding of the slaughtering of innocent people in Gaza, there is often no other choice but to bomb places like that, even if innocents will die, it is crucial to neutralize those who threat our existence, if we hadn't found out about those tunnels they were digging to get to us, settlements near the Gaza Strip would have gotten ambushed and blown up in big quantities, killing more innocent people intentionally than the ones we killed unintentionally.

The UN condemns our actions, our actions are not to be condemned, we are defending Israel, if it means some innocent people will die for it, so be it, it's Israeli children or children from the Gaza Strip, and we try to keep both safe, but it isn't possible.

  • You are right. Israel has every right to defend themselves against a terror organization who wants Israel wiped off the planet and who uses children as human shields. Most Americans support Israel, and I am one of them.

Further, I believe anti-Semitism is at the root of much of the anti-Israel sentiment. Anti-semitism is surely rampant in the Middle East and in Europe.

Lastly, someone said there is never a "humane" side in war. Well, there is surely a morally correct side in a conflict between a pro-freedom civilization on one hand and a death-worshipping ideology many of whose followers seek another holocaust on the other.

Be careful with your words, they're verging on anti-Arabism. Don't hold a large group of innocent people responsible for the actions of psychopaths yanking them around at gunpoint..

That was my quote about there being no humane side to war and I stand by it. Despite noble intention, we crusaders against Islamic extremism all have a tremendous amount of innocent blood on our hands. The way that modern war is conducted makes it hard to claim the moral high-ground, in my opinion.

Also, I'd disagree that most Americans are pro-Israel. The overwhelming majority are neutral.

EDIT: I'm not sure I like where this discussion is going, so I think I might respectfully bow out. Long live Israel and god help Palestine.

I don't think he meant to generalize all Muslims or all Arabs, I don't think like that anyway, I'm against the Hamas, Daash, ISIS and any other organization that is anti-Semitic/anti-Zionist and their supporters, but even inside the Gaza Strip lots don't even support them, which is sad because some of them are inevitably hurt in result from staying there, it's sad that they are held hostage and die as a result.

It's easy for me to to claim the moral high ground between the sides, but I agree that most Americans are neutral, and the media is highly anti-Semitic in my opinion, I was in America this summer, and the way they reported the war was twisted, thankfully those who know how to use their brain don't take the news for granted and do their own research, and get to see the truth.

  • I hope he wasn't. Those groups aren't representative of most Muslims or Arabs. It's telling that the most frequent victims of those groups are other Muslims.

I'll agree about the media bias. I was taking a summer course up at Penn State during the war and I heard the news reports every time I went to the commons for a meal. It was very, very one-sided. I don't really think it was fueled by anti- Semitism though. Based on what I saw it was a lot of bleeding-hearts with a poor grasp on the harsh reality of the situation. Americans (especially those in my generation) have short memories that don't stretch back to the Intifadas, or when Israelis were being attacked on a daily basis. They see the Israeli airstrikes, but not the historical context.

I'm sure asking this is going to be a massive powder keg, but, what do you mean by anti-Zionist? The phrase anti-semitic/anti-Zionist implies that they're similar. People who are Jewish should be free to practice their religion (as an agnostic, I don't agree with it,and I would debate it, but violence is not the answer against ideas). The nation of Israel is both a political reality, and supported by international law. Israel has all right to exist. But, I'm weary when you say anti-zionist - Israel does NOT have a right under international law to the West Bank. When Netanyahu says Israel is not an occupying force because Judean Samaria is part of Israel, he is defying international law, and it is unacceptable.

And are you saying you think the American media is anti-semetic? You realize the US Congress gave a standing ovation to Netanyahu, when no such deference is accorded even to the President? The American media is unswervingly supportive of Israel even when the United Nations decries their behavior. And just because Biden was pissed off when, right as he visited to talk about peace accords Israel expanded settlements doesn't make the US media anti-semetic.

I really wanted to say out of this argument, but if that statement means what I think it means, then I can't stay silent.

Humans have evolved to be racist/homophobic/xenophobic etc. Uncertainty could equal death. People who are different, we were wary of, we didn't understand them, didn't know their motives. But humans have a self awareness of their innate bigotry, and can work to circumvent that. Knowledge is the best way to stop bigotry.

Fuck, if I could tell every racist/homophobic etc society to go fuck themselves, I would. Wish I had a time machine and the power to prevent slavery and just hatred of different people.

But then again, humans are wired to dislike people who are different, maybe it's a lost cause.

anti-Zionism, unlike anti-Semitism, is the hatred towards Israel as a nation, but I guess that they're both based off of anti-Semitism anyway, because most anti-Zionist are Neo-Nazis and antisemitic people, now I say most, because when I ask people on the internet why they hate me so much, they say that I am a Jew and I insert antisemitic excuse for me being evil here. Therefore, if I am a Jew in a Jewish state, the state itself must be oh so evil and OF COURSE that would be enough of a reason for us to bomb civilians in Gaza...

I'm saying anti-Semitic, not because they hate Jews for the fact that they are Jews, but as Max said, I think that the anti-Semitism that is thriving today is caused by the fact that people who aren't constantly reminded of the events occuring before this war, have short memories that don't stretch back to the Intifadas, or when Israelis were being attacked on a daily basis, which they still are to this day. They see the Israeli airstrikes, but not the historical context (as he said), and they see some pictures of gutted babies on the media and get freaked out, saying we bomb children, what does that even mean? They don't even stop to think "What if those dead babies are just victims of circumstances? What if it's not actually Israel's intention to bomb them, but just a result of the Hamas gripping on the innocent people's balls, using them as a shield from Israeli offensives?" Of course, they wouldn't, that takes too much thinking, and believing we are just a bunch of bastards bombing innocents would be way easier and way more comfortable, right?

About the West Bank, here's the thing:

We took that plot of land from Jordan in a legitimate war after Jordan, Egypt and Syria tried to destroy Israel (by the way, completely trying to wipe out a country isn't legal, lol), and the thing is, Jordan had no rights for that land as far as I know, they just took that place to themselves in '48 and no one batted an eye.

Now listen to this - the international laws are only talking about lands that are owned by a state, not lands that were just taken away when no one noticed (Britain and Pakistan did acknowledge it I believe, but no one else did), they weren't the rightful owners of the West Bank since ever, and therefore, the laws are just not relevant for this case, this case is defined "controversial". The Geneva Conventions do not apply here, since Jordan never truly occupied the West Bank.

If it wasn't occupied, how could there be someone to occupy it from?

Remember when we wanted to co-exist? And they started a war? They didn't even accept the fact that we wanted to co-exist, so why would it be theirs for the taking in the first place?

Correct me if I'm wrong about everything I said here, but that's only according to my historical memory, there were no legal owners for that place, and it was ours of the taking.

I'm pretty ignorant about this, here's a video that I watched about it:

  • Racism today is not the same as it was 50 years ago, this thread reaks of Tumblr. The fact that a white man and a black man can work together in an office, on set or on a job proves that equality is there. Assholes do not equate to the world. Racism is a view point, something personal to that person. Meaning that to 'stomp' it out would be to stop a view. But that is a minority. Not a majority.
