I figured out the game timeline

Ok so i think about this a lot and i think i've figured the timeline for the game. season 1 is 2012 and season 2 is 2014. now i know people are gonna say no its starts in 2004 and season 2 is 2006 but i've got proof.

ok first thing is jolene's camera. i know its a small detail but its still important. Jolene's camera is a flip cam.

you can see Carley holding it in the second picture. Now i know its a just a digital camera and they've been around for a while for thing is flip cam weren't around in 2004. they didn't start making them until 2006.

this taken directly from wikipedia:
"The Flip Video cameras are a series of tapeless camcorders for digital video created by Pure Digital Technologies, a company bought by Cisco Systems in March 2009; variants included the UltraHD, the MinoHD, and the SlideHD. Production of the line of Flip video cameras ran from 2006 until April 2011."

so how could jolene have a camera they wouldn't be made for another two years? or would be more reasonable to say she bought in 2011 and still has it in 2012. On to the next point.

The point is the flat screen. what flat screen? the flat screen in savannah in the room where the couple commited suicide. they had a flat screen tv mounted on their wall.

i was about six or seven in 2004 and i don't remember anyone having flat screen TVs let alone ones mounted on a wall. i think they did the 16 month time skip so the game could take in 2014 and so Clem could be a little older.

so yeah that's pretty much it.

  • I think the gas prices in 400 days show that it was in 2003, also the comic started in 2003.

  • yes i know but robert kirkman has said:

"[The Walking Dead] is set in modern times ... but the book started in 2003 and only a year has passed in the book. But that doesn't mean it's 2004 in the book ... maybe it 's 2009 ... who knows ... who really cares. I don't want to be specific."

  • Maybe they messed up?

how jolene have that camera or the couple have that tv in 2003? theres no way unless there's time travel which there's not.

  • not saying your wrong or anything, however the walking dead series seems to have a lot of things that they wouldn't have in the time it takes place, for example, even if the apocalypse in the terms of the show started in 2011-2012, Ricks group has a 2013 car model xD

  • no one's even hearing this theory out and it could be true. i mean i have pictures for god's sake. you can't get people on this forum to see anything a different way. everyone is so stubborn its ridiculous.

  • no i mean no one was owning them like them like that. not your average middle class person anyway.

  • So basically what he's saying is he intended to start it in 2003, but he can't keep everything straight had lost his time focus so it's really "fuck it, it's sometime in the modern era after 2k."

This doesn't make you right, it just means the timeline for the game does no coexist with any timeline we have in reality.

if i have post this one more time. "[The Walking Dead] is set in modern times ... but the book started in 2003 and only a year has passed

  • yeah but they started selling 2013 car models in 2012 so it works.

    NEVER MIND

no i mean no one was owning them like them like that. not your average middle class person anyway.

  • yeah its a fictional world. so yeah the comic maybe is in 2003 but why can't the game be in 2012 and the two in same universe? it can because its not real.

  • No, you did good research, and I applaud that. It's just that there is no definitive time this game takes place. Kirkman fucked it up. But that doesn't bother me.

  • I think they both take place in 2003 and they both take place in 2012. The comic can't exist in 2003 and the game in 2012 because they are canon, as stated by the man who makes it.

  • No need to go calling everyone stubborn, the outbreak started in 2003/2004 and yes I did read your theory, its well thought out. The thing is some of these things can be old versions, the camera could be an old type of video recorder and flatscreens have been around since 1964.

Please don't respond with the same Kirkman quote.

i'm pretty sure those aren't older versions. they look exactly like the ones we have today. the flip cam was probably changed to avoid copyright but you can tell what's its supposed to be.

  • You didn't respond with the Kirkman quote, good.

In 1958 they looked like that but what about in 2003/2004?

Also many older flip cams look like that too, todays tech has just altered it. (Would find a picture but you know how I can't post pictures)
