Sarkeesian and the Utah State University

I'm not sure if people know this story. I haven't been paying too much attention to the details of Gamergate, so I won't talk about it too much (and can we stop using gate as a suffix? There's Gamergate, and Florida just had Fangate). But Feminist video game critic was scheduled to give a presentation at Utah State University, and somebody threatened to go on a shooting at the speech, and if they couldn't get in to go kill as many feminists on campus as they could. The police refused to bring metal detectors, or perform pat-downs and, since Utah allows concealed carry, even on campuses, somebody technically could legally bring a gun to the event. Part of the polices reaction was due to their conclusion that the threat did not present a real danger. It was more to try and get her to cancel the event. And she did.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I wanted to point out how absurd gun laws are in the US; but I also wanted to talk about the cancellation as well - The Amazing Atheist was comparing this with all the death threats Marilyn Manson got, and suggested that by cancelling, she's encouraging such behavior in the future, that she's letting herself be silence. But another aspect is the conclusion by the police - I know when I saw growing up there were bomb threats at our school - we moved to high school right next to us while the building was being cleared. But one time there was even a school shooting threat (somebody just spray painted 'school shooting' and a date. The school was swarmed with police officers, but there were no metal detectors or pat downs, and we still went to go to class....

I'm not sure where the question is here. Just a matter of what people thought of the whole debauchle.

  • First off, wrong section.

Other than that, I have no love for Sarkeesian, I hope she gets silenced. (Not through her death but I mean like stopping her lying scheme, she basically stole money from her supporters...She also blocks comments so she can't get any opposition on her videos.)

Oh whoops. I thought I was in general chat. (Do I flag it as spam: wrong section?)

I wasn't trying to talk about Gamergate and Sarkeesian, but more about the gun laws, and cancelling the presentation was a good idea, and whether the cops did due dilligence (or rather, whether because of gun laws they were permitted to do due dilligence.)

  • Well my fault then.

I think cancelling was a good idea (Mostly because I hate Anita) and the cops should have done more.

  • Doesn't surprise me. Most men are scared around women that use their voice as a platform to insight discussion.

When I heard about the "Sarkeesian incident" I looked up her series of videos and immediately thought "this is controversial now?" A women speaking her thoughts about an industry she loves gets her death and rape threats. How sick is that?

I've heard about the Utah conference and, again, wasn't surprised. I think it's sad that women are being more and more repressed by an ever misogynistic industry.

And people still use the term "Feminazi" as a disgusting term to repress the goals of feminism. A term which, by the way, was started by Rush Limbaugh to dilute the movement.

  • The funny thing is, Anita HATES video games.

  • Well, that's obviously a lie. She was game journalist, so?

Even though, do you think the death and rape threats were ok? Or can I just tell people I want to rape and torture them because they're saying something I don't like what them to? Entitled twelve year old's shouldn't be on the internet... It's too much power for them to fathom.

The funny thing is, Anita HATES video games.

  • The only problem is Anita has indeed stated that she never played video games before her sudden love for the industry sprouted. Don't get me wrong, throwing death threats and rape comments isn't nice, and I don't condone it. But neither to I choose to acknowledge what Anita is trying to look like. All I see when I look at her is a feminist who has latched onto a main stream media industry and has used her tactics to make the game industry look misogynistic, which in true fact it just isn't. Not to mention she is a vessel for the true Feminazis to rise up and spread like a disease. I'm all for gender equality but when some feminists believe men are the main issue then how are we meant to feel? Sometimes you have to acknowledge the issues comes from both sides and stop blaming one side just to make you feel that much better.

  • Actually no she isn't, shes a woman who went to a donation website, said "You give me money, ill make a series about sexism in games". People ate it up even though she hates games and had no prior experience, but hey, anything for money. She uses relatively unknown games which will allow her little opposition because people don't know the actual plot in that scene. She is a fraud, however its still not right for death and rape threats.

  • As I've said "feminazi" is not a thing, it's only a term to make feminists look like menaces. It's not a different thing, It's a mocking term.

The term you're looking for is a "bitch."

And, just because someone is saying something opposing your view point, doesn't make it inherently wrong. I saw her video's a while back, she was simply bringing to light some of the sexist qualities video games carry. Women being silent props for males in games, having no power or place in the story.

I remember she showed disgust toward Max Payne's portrayal of "the women in refrigerator" trope it used to progress the plot. Does that make me hate that fine trilogy any more? No, Max Payne is still up there as one of my all time favorites. But it was an interesting point.

Objectively, her points are valid and interesting. But, because some male gamers are twats, they thought she deserved to be killed and raped. Which made her points even more valid.

The only problem is Anita has indeed stated that she never played video games before her sudden love for the industry sprouted. Don't get me

  • Actually a femnazi is a thing, a lot of feminists in America want female control other than equality, those are femnazis. Most of her points aren't valid nor intersting but moronic, I also know a lot of female gamers who send those threats too.

If you love games so much that you're willing to have years of insecure babies screeching death threats at you for suggesting that things be done differently - then you must be doing something right.

And sending a death threat to silence her is terrorism and that man should be treated as such. It's too bad that not many boys seem to really understand the gravity of this problem.

She's doing it for the money. She loves pushing her retarded agenda. She doesn't give a shit about the games. This is a very well known fact.

  • Oh yeah cause boys are the main problem here, I mean no girls can possibly hate Anita too. This is exactly what I mean, men are not the spawn of freakin satan. I mean some guys can be real douches yeah that much is true but not the entire male demographic is a pack of blood thirsty console playing douches.

If you think the other user is misinformed about the issue, then inform them or point them to a source about the issue, Immediately resorting to calling someone who has a different view than you "brainwashed" and telling them to "fuck off" only serves to make you look like you don't have an argument for your side.

  • Oh? I think you'd find that it's quite easy to argue with me.

It's impossible to argue with feminists so telling them to fuck off is valid.

  • How does reading have anything to do with this?

Feminazi is a term popularized by radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh and in use since the early 1990s. It is a portmanteau of the nouns feminist and Nazi. The online version of the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the term as used in a "usually disparaging" manner, to describe "an extreme or militant feminist".[1]

The term is used pejoratively to attack feminists who are perceived as extreme.

It's a demeaning term. Much like nigger, spic, kike, cracker, faggot, and the abundance of other destructive wording. I'm disgusted that it's actually a preceived and accepted term for some mouth-breathers. (scroll down a bit to find two.)

It might be demeaning to actual feminists but there are feminists out there who want female domination.
