How many of you watch the series, and how many of you are thinking about quitting?
I'm personally am thinking about not watching the series any longer.
It's taken a very disturbing direction.
What almost happened to Carl, and then what nearly happened to Judith, almost made me stop watching the show.
But because of how things turned out, I was willing to give it another chance.
But now that it's starting to get into cannibalism, that is crossing the line for me.
That is just completely sick!
I'm not sure I want to continue watching it.
And it makes me think: "I want to be a Decent kind of man. decent in both thought and action. And if that is so, why would I choose to watch something like that; which contain acts that are indeed sick, and depraved, because the media calls it entertainment? Would a decent man really think of that as entertaining? Would he really choose to be entertained by that?"
However, after seeing the episode where Bob died, to here the hope and decency in Bob's voice, as well as the kindness Rick showed toward him, as well as Rick's fierce protectiveness of the group, have reminded me why I started watching the show all those years ago.
So I will continue to do so.
The one thing I'm really interested in seeing, is the Beth episode coming up.
Who took her?
Why did they take her?
Where did they take her?
And what will happen when Daryl and Carol find her, how will they get her out; and what will happen when they do?
And on a side note, if something were to happen between Daryl and Beth, I'm curious to see how Carol would respond, given that Carol has been known to be ruthless at times.
When Daryl and Beth were traveling together, indications seemed to point that there was something special that was happening between them.
Especially since Beth is the only person Daryl ever really opened up to.
Beth really seemed to help Daryl grow as a person.
With Daryl and Carol, I personally never did see anything like that.
Yeah Carol made passes at him, but Daryl didn't seem to really be interested.
Indications seem to suggest that they were more like brother and sister, at least from Daryl's point of view.
In some ways, Carol almost seemed to have more of a motherly-like quality toward Daryl, instead of one of a potential girlfriend.
Plus, Carol for the most part, didn't seem to help Daryl grow as much.
I'm not meaning that as a slam against Carol!
Carol is a great character.
I'm just saying that she just didn't seem to really be able to reach Daryl, in the same way that Beth did, nor to the same extent that Beth did.
My two favorite characters on the show, are Rick and Daryl.
Carl and Carol are cool as well, but I like Rick and Daryl better, mainly cause they are the leaders in the group.
What I like most about Rick and Daryl is, they are both tough men; both physically and mentally, who have still maintained their humanity.
Rick, Daryl, Carol, and Carl; have actually grown more, than any other character's on the show.
But even with giants such as these, you still need characters who sever as moral compasses for the group.
Ones like Dale, Hershel, and Bob, are the ones who really gave the group, and the show, it's decent qualities.
I must admit that of all the moral compass-like characters they've killed off, the one I most regretted to see die, was Hershel.
Hershel was the best out of the three, and I would've loved to have seen him trying to survive on the road, while handicapped.
I think would've added an interesting element to the show, and predicament that the group is in now.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the series, and the characters themselves.
How about yourselves?
Comments
well you know they are just following the source material and it only gets worse from here
I'm not gonna quit watching because of how disturbing it gets cause its starting to become more interesting imo
i have all read the issues of the comic and if you thought that was violent you should definitely stop now.
If you don't have the stomach for it don't watch it bro.
oh wow learn to enjoy your life
You played the game, right?
It had cannibalism...Also its the apocalypse, there will be fucked up people. Plus the shows been taking it light, there was already suppose to be a rape scene. I can understand why you would quit watching but honestly its weird you're only stopping now, there has been worse stuff to happen.
No amount of gore or disgusting scenes will stop me from watching it. Dont be a sissy.
Wait until the apocalypse and see what kind of man you become :x
I quit halfway through the last season but that was more because I finally got fed up with how much padding there is and how inconsistent the writing is. The odd great episode and a whole lot of fluff.
I just started enjoying the show so nah I'm going to keep watching it.
Well I like the show and even though it is pretty disturbing, its fiction and interesting.
If you choose to be a "decent" person where you lock yourself out off gore and stuff like that, you'd look like a spoiled rich kid that screams like a girl when you have mud all over your clothes.
I find the gore entertaining, like bashing a guy's head in or eat human flesh. It's all fine.
Never watched the series. I find tv boring.
Meh I've seen worse on tv and video games. Like game of thrones for example. If you think walking dead has sick stuff then you won't wanna watch that xD.
I was honestly surprised and disgusted with the brutal execution/butcher scene at the beginning of No Sanctuary. But it didn't made me want to quit the show. I wasn't entertained by the gore and cannibalism. I was entertained by the thrill on how the main characters are going to get out of that dangerous situation. I am watching the show for the story and characters, not the disgusting stuff.
"fiction"
Tell that to ebola.
Why do you watch a series that literally is called 'The Walking Dead', meaning there are walking dead=corpses=probably a lot of gore?
If it disturbs you, don't watch it, because if the show still loosely follows the comic canon (which it very likely does), then prepare your shit. Just a little warning.
So, you think that the show is "disturbing"? You must've never read the comics then.
Ummm... What?
You're posting on the message board for the game. The game has already dealt with this issue. If it's so disturbing to you then why have you not quit the game?
It's the apocalypse. People tend to act badly. If you can't handle it, I dont know how you got this far in the series.
I guess we will wait and see about that.
....Yeah....Except you know Ebola isn't a person or thing and it can't create the undead....
Quick edit for people who didn't get it :
Oh so when zombies do it it's TOLERABLé but when humans do it then; nooooooooo, that's enough. "I quit. I'm done. Fuck this. Man. Fuck."

some may look at this diffrently than others. I'm not trying to be mean / support cannibals / insult or anything like that. if you get that, then you're not one of them and you can ignore this.
But seriously though. You found the series appealing by watching it so far obviously. (not including the moments that "almost made you quit" the series). It's what you could encounter in a *real * apocalpyse.
I was trying to say this with my comment. but it got out of hand. I apologize.
to each his own. if a work of fiction really disgusts you that badly you should go watch the care bears instead
Wait have you played the game??? Cuz there's cannibalism there. Also it's the waking dead, it's the apocalypse what the hell did you expect ? I say quit now cuz you can't stomach this lil violence. And be such a puss, what does being a decent man have to do with seeing shit on the tv?? Guess what the world is far more fucked up than the show. Also it'sfiction so idk why you would be do terrified of fake stuff. Sack up
That's the Walking Dead for ya.
The Walking Dead universe isn't meant to be all happy rainbows and sunshines. The dark aspect of the world include rape, brutal murder, and even cannibalism. Its what makes the show realistic in a sense and one of the reasons I like it so much. If you can't handle what you've seen up to this point then you probably don't wanna stick around, especially if they bring in Negan this season (which I hope they do).
Anybody else at the end of the episode said in Lee's voice "What happened to your legs man?!"
I actually really like it this season. The darker the better for me (but I prefer the feels from the game more). But watching a disturbing show is not going to turn you into a psychopath.
Disturbing? It hasn't even been "disturbing" enough IMO. Did it show Lizzie get shot in the head? No. Did it show Carl get raped? No. I don't see what can be considered "disturbing" unless you're referring to the gore, but even then the gore isn't disturbing, I mean the most brutal thing they've done was hitting their heads with the bats and slitting their throats. If you would consider that to be disturbing however, you're a pretty sensitive person.
I mean, you said the cannibalism is crossing the line for you, it didn't even show them cut off his leg, and I personally don't have a problem with Cannibalism (The killing and chopping off legs by force is another story however). I think it should be somebody's decision whether they want to be food or not. I was pissed off last season (The second half at least) for not showing enough "disturbing" content, but they're doing pretty good with this season by adding new elements and such. I recommend you just stop watching if you're gonna be all sensitive about it because like others have said, it does get worse if this is going based off the comics.
That stuff is more likely to happen in a world like that, but it's still possible to day. Cannibals exist, rapists exist, gangs lure people into traps to kill them and take their stuff all the time. Parents kill their children. It's horrible, but that's how it's being depicted. It's shown in a negative light, not as something entertaining to watch. The entertaining part comes when we see the good guys triumph, but it's still a tragedy and a horror. People will die, not for the sake of showing the audience death, but to be real.
When you watch a gory movie set during a violent time in ancient history, you don't watch to see people die. Death is never an entertainment in its own right for normal people(yeah I said it). I was there with you feeling worried that Judith was in danger(except I know some comic stuff, so I was kind of hoping for a different outcome for the sake of canon), and especially when Carl was helpless. The entertaining part of the conflict is when the hero engages in conflict because his enemies are wicked or cannot be reasoned with, and achieves victory in their deaths. We like to see people get what they deserve. If the hero dies afterwards or during conflict, it's seen as a tragedy, especially if the bad guys win(in which case the story becomes the entertainment, not necessarily the outcome). And they are addressing themes, perspectives on what is right, or what is hard to do, like learning to trust again, or letting go of hatred, or what becomes acceptable and whether it really is, when you're forced to test what you're willing to do to survive.
Rick and his people are going to win, but it's still a tragedy and a horror. We're going to see what they learn when they win, how they cope, and what new themes or issues arise to be dealt with later in the series.
The op should be grateful that the michonne/governor rape/torture interaction from the comics was left out of the TV series.
Just saying, it could be toned down a notch.
Dude, a man fucking died from Ebola then came back. I don't believe the news, but I do believe my parents.
he started eating a doctor's face. Then he was shot down. Preventing a Zombie apocalypse. But the doctor didn't come back so yeah.
Haha yeah!
XD
Where do you think your parents got it?
Its bull, stop overreacting, we're fine.
I respect your opinion since not everyone is the same thinking but you know theres alot more worse coming up so yeah since your 1 of those weak stomachs then this might make you vomit your guts up and down since it gets worse past the hunter/terminus arc lots worse i like the show but people have a point the game had cannibals just as bad but maybe the real life aspect looks of a guy with 1 leg and the other chopped off is more disturbing to ya but you know its your decision i respect ya fully and i just wanted to say my words on this post thingy
No way I'm quitting it. The show is too good to watch.
Sure, other countries are fine. But the US is bound to be fucked within a day or two.
Trust me, My uncle had ebola. Didn't die though. I just still hope he's going to be okay.
