Right, every community has a potential sandy hook shooter among their class. Here is a bigger question that just came to me.
Why are people entertained by violence, and what does that say about us as a people? Are we any more different from the Romans cheering watching people be eaten by lions for religious differences.
I have a four year old nephew, who is banned by his mother from watching the power rangers. So he somehow finds his way over my house and tries to press his luck. I let him watch it once, and i never heard the end of it.
I think the degree of violence they are exposed to can play a factor. Some children are affected differently than others, but in general, exposing young children to graphic violence can be risky towards their development... especially if they spend a large amount of time with it.
Like... I wouldn't want a child to be playing GTA or anything like that. Surely there are some children that can handle it, but there are others who would be harmed by it.

Exactly. My four year old nephew asks me about GTA 5 everyday because he saw me pick it up from the store when it came out.

Power Rangers. Seriously. It's not even THAT violent, and the shows are pretty much targeted toward young kids. What was it about Power Rangers that was so bad. Did you feel the same way with kids watching say,DragonBall Z, Poke'mon, Digimon, and Yu-Gi-Oh!?

That is why I believe it is up to the parents to teach their children the difference between right and wrong as well as reality and fiction. If for some reason their child still can't grasp that, then yeah, they probably shouldn't be exposed to that stuff, but they are more ways to be exposed to violence than video games or TV shows/movies. And there are more kids who aren't easily influence by what they see on TV than kids who are. For instance, Japan produces as much violent games as the US does (even more dark and gory than a lot of US games, but some of those games don't usually make it out of Japan) and you don't hear any cases of what happens here over there and Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
My parents have taught me the difference between right and wrong, and I've practically grew up watching violent movies and playing violent games that make what happen in TWD (both the show, game and even the comic) seem like child's play. Whenever I play Digital Devil Saga, I never have the urge to go out and kill, rip and eat other humans in the hopes I get stronger. Whenever I play Shin Megami Tensei, I never have the urge to try to summon demons and devils like Satan, Beelzebub, Baphomet, and Lucifer as well as kill my friends in cold blood because they have a different opinion on how the world should be. Whenever I play Persona 3, I never have the urge to take a gun and shoot myself in the head in the hopes to summon mythological entities from my subconsciousness , etc.
And all those games I just listed are more popular in Japan than anywhere else, and again, we don't hear any cases of kids going around shooting schools or going on killing sprees with knives over there.

With all due respect, if you are just a teenager, then you still have a lot to learn about life.
Some of the decisions you've made in your life, may have been better than the decisions of some adults.
But it doesn't mean that you know everything there is to know about life.
Please don't discount those of us that are adults.
As adults, we've been the age you're at, and then some.
And we've seen and experienced more than kids your age have.
And as a result, the decisions we make are often going to be more discreet, and more sound, than the ones we made as kids.
As you grow older, your viewpoint on things will change.
What you think you know, and what you actully know, those things will change as you grow and experience life.
And like everyone else, you're gonna make mistakes along the way.
Just so you know, I'm not trying to insult or belittle you.
I'm just trying to help you see things from a clearer perspective.
You kids?
Hey, i'm a teen, I can make my own decisions and better than most adults. VG taught me a lot and hasn't affected my judgement skills negatively.
The point is, what we see, and what we hear, all have an affect on us.
They influence our thinking, especially if we are constantly exposed to them.
And that in turn, will begin to influence our actions.
And frankly, it would be foolish for a person to think otherwise.
That's a good point.
If we choose to be entertained by violence, whether it's on tv, in videogames, or if it's a live-event, then how can we as a society say we are civilized?
If a person claims to be peaceful, but enjoys violence; whether in sports or videogames, his words are thus empty.
By his own actions, he would thus be revealing himself to be a liar and a hypocrite.

Why are peo… moreple entertained by violence, and what does that say about us as a people? Are we any more different from the Romans cheering watching people be eaten by lions for religious differences.
The reason we like being entertained by violence on TV, video games, books, etc., is because we know the characters in them are not real, thus they aren't really getting hurt, and we would't ever think about doing those things to hurt people in real life. People can claim to be peaceful while liking violence in fiction. That doesn't make them a hypocrite.
I would never want to hurt anyone in real life no matter how angry they make me, because I'm just not that kind of person, but that doesn't make me a hypocrite for enjoying games like Persona, God of War, Poke'mon, Final Fantasy, Devil Summoner, etc., because those are just fiction. Pixels, and polygons. Nothing more and nothing less.
If movies, games, and books didn't have violence and the type of action consumers love to see then those products wouldn't sell. Since violence and sex sells, companies are giving incentives to include them since by the end of the day, companies and businesses exist to primarily make profits.
That's a good point.

True, what we see, hear, and experience does have an affect on us and can potentially influence our actions, but what does that have to do with violence in fiction specifically? Your argument could be applied to just about anything in life.

Kids now a days get treated like gold. I remember what it was like growing up in the 80s-90s. There wasn't this public outcry, everyone was abusing their kids back then.

Well according to my sister he became violent after watching power rangers by pretending he was a sword fighter, or getting into play fights with his sister.
I listen to the parents because i just don't want to hear it later.

well you know they are just following the source material and it only gets worse from here
I'm not gonna quit watching because of how disturbing it gets cause its starting to become more interesting imo
If you choose to be a "decent" person where you lock yourself out off gore and stuff like that, you'd look like a spoiled rich kid that scre… moreams like a girl when you have mud all over your clothes.
I find the gore entertaining, like bashing a guy's head in or eat human flesh. It's all fine.
Well i saw Episode 5-1 this weekend, and it was absolutely over the top. The girl i was with wouldn't stop talking about it. I don't want… more to see that shit. Children should not be watching this stuff, no wonder there is so many crazy kids out there shooting up high schools. Hollywood should take responsibility, and convey what is morally acceptable. However that doesn't happen when the all mighty dollar.
Hollywood/Parents really should be ashamed of themselves. The destruction of our moralistic culture is going to shit. Whatever right, we don't need "self value" in our life, we can deal with endless school shootings, teenager sex, or whatever ills on society that was caused by shitty influences.
Girls thank people like Miley Cyrus. She is the "perfect" role model. Its what Hollywood wants you to be, a brainless dumb ass.
it is exactly what it is, and sometimes they are just shit you cant control. some for some reason are born "crazy". they just want a scapegoat or they are dumb.

Calm down man i wasn't even referring to you. I know your not a kid.
Exactly my point, some kids are so nuts they can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy.

"Clearer perspective" :P
Is this actually serious?
(Insert the truth has been spoken pic here)
The red-handed machete.
I quitted the TV series.
Cereal made me kill my family....Let's ban it.
We need to go to Congress!
lets be honest.. they deserved to die
shut up, dont give that bullshit that "violent" video games and tv and movies make kids crazy. thats the stupidest shit ever.
It disappoints me people believe that crap, I blame it on bad parenting not video games.
to real life violence not fictional lolololol
it is exactly what it is, and sometimes they are just shit you cant control. some for some reason are born "crazy". they just want a scapegoat or they are dumb.
THEY don't want a scapegoat but the idiots who think Video games are bad just want to use a tragedy for their own use.
Take the show and make it 20,000 times worse and add in a couple hundred Lee deaths and then you have the comics.
