Human Augmentation-The future of us
Alright so I am interested in the topic of human augmentation.
Human augmentation or trans-humanism is modifications of the human body,we are getting so close to our future as a species, we can truly modify ourselves to make ourselves better. We can let the blind see, the handicapped walk, the deaf to hear. This is a lot of information and I cant truly explain it perfectly so I found a pretty good interview about it.
Human augmentation isnt just hidden behind scientific barriers but in pop culture way before 2000, a good game franchise does well at explaining augmentations and issues it can cause, here is Deus Ex Human Revolution opening.
Its a cool subject and I would love to have a conversation on it here.

Good idea for a thread
I have always had an interest in this topic. Its amazing how advanced technology has become.
I played Deus Ex Human Revolution and thought how good that technology could be in the right hands. So I decided I wanted to go work in biotechnology, still in high school but its what I want to do. Its better in my hands than in some politician's hands.
I'm looking forward to some kind of robotic eye things coming out because my eyesight's terrible. Imagine how cool it'd be.
Yeah but you might need to pay full price since the blind will need them more.
Yeah, anyway it's probably gonna be a while before I can get myself a cool set of robot eyes so i'll just get laser eye surgery instead :P
For some reason the first thing I thought of when I saw this post was that Twilight Zone episode where everyone at 18 had to change their bodies to one of two artificial prototypes.
Ive never seen the Twilight Zone, sounds good.
One day maybe everyone will be augmented but sadly all I see for when this starts is hate.
I can already see the word Aug being used to describe an augmented person, mostly negatively.
Yeah. It's interesting, but I'm sick of all the spam mail I get for human augmentation. And by 'human' I mean 'penis.'
No, but seriously, I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of transhumanism (at least for now it's science fiction, namely Ghost in the Shell, which is awesome), but I'm enthralled by all the advances in technology which help people with diabilities - machines that help the deaf hear, the blind see, or, more commonly, people with lost limbs to have a mechanical limb which actually responds to nerve impulses. It's fascinating how much technology has advanced.
Yes, right now a lot of augmentations are breast and penis...Your comment made me laugh.
Anyway its something that can easily happen in this day and age. I predict that augmentations will be mainstream by 2030, and hopefully easily accessible for those who need it.
There was a movie about this some time ago, Transcendence. Good movie, but yeah, if done right, Augmentation could be a big benefit to humans as a species.
Lets just keep it out of the hands of politicans, they ruin everything they touch. :P
I wanted to resurrect this thread.
I want to hear all your opinions on it...
Hopefully this isn't a bad idea.
You should watch Orphan Black.
What is it about?
I might watch it at some point. It sounds interesting.
Someone discovering there are loads of clones of them all leading separate lives. It gets to be about augmentation really quickly and genetic modification and all that jazz.
I think it's cool but I think we should let a person decide if they want it done to them...A baby doesn't have that opportunity.
Some people find it immoral, but I think it would be cool to be able to tweak around with the genetics of fetuses in the womb.
What about curing genetic diseases?
That however I think should be done anyway.
If it saves a life, do it. However if it's to create a "perfect person", I think it should be the person's choice.
I keep wanting to hear people's opinions on this.
Anyone want to say anything?
I saw that guy on the Daily Show. He's a badass. Tried throwing back an enemy grenade and it blew up in his hand. He looked at it, wrapped it up, got on the radio kept calling for support. I believe Jon Stewart asked him if it feels badass to be a real-life Luke Skywalker now, because that hand is seriously cool.
I'm all for it. Just not for cosmetic purposes... you know what I mean.
I saw that video of the deaf lady who had her implants turned on so she heard for the first time and it was one of the most awesome(and kinda funny, full disclosure) videos I've seen in the last few years.
Now imagine that all across the world available for everyone.
That would be a dream.
Yeah, a pipe dream. People can't afford that stuff across the world. Makes me sad. Seriously. THAT is the kind of shit that makes me sad.
There is a way...
Revolution against the super-rich overlords?
...Two ways....
:P
What's the otherway?
Allowing the people who need it to put up a small fund of cash up front to get it then pay it off over time once they can get better jobs.
Why wait, start now.
Obviously some augmentation would be used to correct a defect or rebuild lost function to a certain organ or limb. The rest would be cosmetic. For the most part this would be used for benefit of society.
I could become the Master Chief.
I can finally go all out with the Adam Jensen cosplay with this.
I wanna be like Rhys, he's so cool!
Deus Ex and Rhys is the type of Augmentation that's a little too ahead of our modern technology.
Idk about any of that but I hope it leads to the human vs robot war.
Seriously?
Just...Stop...
No, it's going to happen and I can't wait.
Keep dreaming.
