And I have no idea. Maybe you'd think by using colors, shapes and smells, if that's possible.

Like @allandir said this type of question should be posted in Telltale Talk so i moved it there.

A quick Google search found this article and apparently some deaf people think in sign language while others can sometimes have a "inner voice" that they can hear.

I was going to say braille... then I realized how many levels of stupid that was.

You probably wouldn't recognize any language at all, or really have much of a concept of sound. Deaf people can read and write, and so whatever language they read and write in is what they would think in; it just wouldn't have sound.

Also, some deaf people (most famously Helen Keller) learned how to speak even though they're deaf - I think it's by learning from the vibrations when they talk, which would be touch, not hearing? If they suddenly gained their hearing back I don't know if they'd recognize the sounds though. It's like if a blind person somehow gains sight, and you put a ball and a cube in front of them and ask them to pick up the pointy one, they wouldn't be able to do it. They could obviously recognize which is which it if they felt them, but they would not have associated that sensation with that physical form yet.

  • Did someone say Helen Keller?

  • I think you'd originally think in pictures or ideas, then in whichever language you'd learn.

I've seen this question a million times on Reddit. The most popular answer and most accurate is that deaf people think in picture's or ideas, like what @dojo32161 said.

  • How can you learn a language if you're deaf?

You can't hear the words, so you don't know how to pronounce them, making it hard for you to actually learn a language. I guess it's possible, but you'd just have to guess how to pronounce them in your head. Not sure if that's possible if you haven't heard anything before.

  • Sign language and text, I sometimes think in text, as in it's just words with no sound appearing in my imagination, I imagine it's something like that.

Deaf people who recover their hearing are capable of speaking the language they have learned.

Remember that many deaf people learn to lip read, which gives them a good idea of the sounds made.

Here's a woman hearing for the first time. When she speaks she speaks with an odd accent, but she does speak english.

(I recommend others watch this too. It's the cutest thing ever.)
