This thread of yours is kind of a dream come true, thank you. Well, all the songs that I can choose, I choose this song:
The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
Yeah, sorry, I'm quite of a Beatles fan, but Billy Joel is good in his own way (with Piano Man, this song, and The Longest Time being my favourite songs by him), Peter, Paul, And Mary (with Puff The Magic Dragon being one of my favourite songs), The Rolling Stones (with Get off of my cloud which gets stuck in my head almost everyday), The Doors, The Mamas and The Papas, etc.
Mad World
2002 music...Close enough. :P
Count to six
Hm, I can certainly get behind this thread! I don't know why I never thought about making one:). So many songs to choose from...I choose this one:
Free-Fire And Water
Free is a great band, Kossoff's vibrato was something incredible. Andy Fraser's bass playing also contributed a lot to the band, and Paul Rodgers is one of my favorite singers along with Ian Gillan(Deep Purple).

Pretty good song. But sadly, I don't remember this part in The Hobbit.
I need to buy myself one of those hats :P
One of the best bands ever (IMO)

I love this song soooo much
Fun Fact: I can sing We Didn't Start the Fire perfectly, I memorized it years ago.
Anything by Blur is great. My favourites are Country House and Parklife.

Its 2000

GARY F'N NUMAN!!
How about another genre? One of my favorite songs from the 90's.

This is from 2000, but it's a cover of a 1990 song, and I think the cover is a lot better.

I saw some concert footage on Youtube, but the singer was prancing around wearing a strap, so I doubt I could post that... Funny story, they used to tour with Marilyn Manson, and it shows, especially the early stuff.
Its Wednesday, COMON SOBER SOCEITY,
TIME TO GET RIPPED.

When afro's and mustaches ruled the land.
Maple Leaf Rag
An actual Pianola Roll of Scott Joplin himself playing Maple Leaf Rag. I love the music of the early to mid 20th century, because you can actually hear how the music evolves in the various styles. Like how this style, ragtime, evolves into jazz:
The Original Dixieland Jass Band One Step
Then how jazz evolves from its ragtime roots into a more soulful style:
Saturday Night Fish Fry
Which then evolves into rock and roll:
Johnny B Goode
Everything in these forums seems to be changing, and I couldn't find a better way to express that than this song:
Still the forums too me.
Paradise City, Wanted Dead or Alive, oh man those are so good.
No specifics; just the Beatles.

I don't know if many (or any) of you know who Boards of Canada are but they are one of my favourite bands. They do experimental electronic music/IDM. Here's one of my favourites of theirs from 1998:

Its quite a quirky sorta song, but, I love it.
That guy is a douche.
I love that song!
Totally one of my jams.
I can do better than pre-2000. How about pre-1990?
This a little hidden gem from Black Flag called Room 13, came out in 1981. It's simply beautiful.
