  • A 6.5 isn't even a bad score :P

Yeah I'm really excited to play it now. Only review site to give it a bad score was polygon, but they've been well known to be awful reviewers.

  • Apparently their is a codex thing. Which I assume is like The Wolf Among Us and will give you some necessary background information. But yes it is recommended to watch the show first to get the story.

Judging from these reviews looks like this is the opposite of Tales From The Borderlands based on how much background knowledge you need in order to fully enjoy the game. I'm getting kinda worried now.

  • Well having background information within the game makes me feel a bit better. I guess I'll start watching the show after I try this Episode.

  • For as big of anticipated game as this it is.

  • Well, the thing is, and I'm obviously totally just guessing here:

The game starts out with a key event and I'm probably not spoiling anything here for fans of the show, as we know it starts at the end of season 3. I think that, depending on the codex, while event references etc. may go over your head, the core story of The Foresters will be easy enough to follow with them being new characters for the game. So, you'd miss background info and won't know the established characters that appear, but . . . yeah, central story arcs that pertain to the foresters should be fine to follow.

Though as stated, IGN did warn that this wasn't the best way to be introduced to Game of Thrones.

Anyhow, I can totally understand your fear and I hope I'm right for you. Myself, I've only managed to catch up to Season 2: Episode 8, so I won't have time to watch till the end of Season 3, but I do know quite a few of the major events that happen.

Seems like that's from a fan site or something, given the website name. So, I guess they must know their stuff. ;)

  • I already know it thankfully. I think I know all of the major events, it's just . . . the more minor stuff I'll miss out on, I think.

  • It requiring background knowledge is a big flaw too.

Tales from the Borderlands, TWD and TWAU are all extremely easy for new players. This apparently is not so much.

    Totalbiscuit's WTF for the game:

You'll see the first 15 minutes playing in the background.

edit: Actually, I removed the link. Trust me, you don't want that spoiler, but I'm pleased with what I read. Don't want people accidentally spoiled as well, despite the spoiler tag.

  • Damn it's hard not to watch :D But I wont spoil myself...gotta wait for tommorow (I buy it for ps4)...

  • I can understand. There's a Let's Play on youtube currently. So the game might actually be out now on the telltale store or one of the consoles. Not sure and can't tell myself with owning the game on steam.

But yeah . . . I'm fighting the urge to watch the let's play.

  • Well tbh it is way more complicated to do a newcomer friendly game from GoT than from Broderlands or TWD. And as a fan of GoT I'm of course happy they have used the full potential of the story without trying too hard to make it friendly for newcomers.

    Don't watch :P

It's so much better no knowing what will happen. It's not out yet on steam or the Telltale store, they can probably upload their let's play now that embargo has lifted.

  • I'm trying, believe me, but I'm stupid and have little self-restraint . . . ;)

    Ehhh....

Did they HAVE to make it so ingrained with the main storyline?

And I don't doubt that you're happy as a fan of GoT. But that's not the point of reviews.

  • Yeah I know :D Just pointing out that for GoT fans I think this is the best. Of course I understand that people who don't watch GoT but enjoy Telltale Games well this is...not that good. And anyway the universe of this franchise is so massive that it would be hard to do it newcomer friendly even if it wasn't around the main storyline.

it took me 3 hrs to finish TFTB... so at best it will be 2.30 for GOT, someone like me who take a damn long time to answer. LOL. sometimes i get so shocked and stare at the screen that i forget to answer and then i restart that scene again to give a proper dialouge option and progress through the game .... yes sometimes, im a mess. telltale ca do that to me ALOT! and GOT will be the one with the most replay-scenes due to me forgetting to answer and not stare. :P

The 2 hours and a bit makes me think it won't be quite as long as Tales from the Borderlands... That actually sounds close to Border

  • There may be no more Forresters in episode 5 or 6.

  • Nerdist and Digital Spy gave it good reviews:

I think the problem that most reviews are saying is that this whole episode was just setting up the rest of the series. Hopefully they are right and in the next episodes the story/plot advance a lot so it doesn't get such bad reviews.
