Is anyone else underwhelmed by the "combat" QTE's?
It'd be really nice to just have an option to automatically do every QTE. Not that I have any trouble with them, it just pretty feels dumb doing them. Of the three games I've played (TWD TWD2 TWAU) I haven't enjoyed a single QTE.
I mean I'd like to see a better combat engine obviously, but I doubt that's possible in the near future. So... yeah why not just let people have the option of not having to deal with QTE's unless it's absolutely necessary like a branching QTE.

It's a fucking QTE, of course it will be easy.
They don't need to change a thing, this idea is pretty bad. Branching combat system...Seriously.
These games are made for everyone, not Cod twitch shooters. If your looking for that challenge go play COD or DOTA2 man. This is a story game, not a action game, there are action elements in this game but the main focus is story. I do agree somewhat, the TWDG QTE are a little easy, they should make them more like TWAU, change it up a little in S3.
I would say the QTE's are meant to pull you into the moment and make you feel involved, rather than them actually being challenging.
If anyone has played the Rambo video game (pc game on steam) I know this is hard to imagine, but that game wasn't garbage like everyone said it was. They had QTE in it as well, but the way it worked is, it also depended on your timing of pushing the button, if you were too early/too late you would get a less than favorable result than a perfect QTE press.
IMO that is a great idea, that should be integrated into future TTG releases.
I completely agree. Telltale should just abolish them. These games are storytelling experiences, and all the QTE's do is pull me out of the story. Seeing a gigantic 'Q' pop up on screen just reminds me I'm in a game. Or, when I'm sitting back enjoying the story, I die and see a "Game Over" screen because I'm not fast enough to re-orient myself. Not only is it completely immersion breaking but it also means I have to go back and replay a section of the game.
Rambo the video game...Ugh don't remind me.
I think that system is dumb.
You want a movie without any action gameplay...
K.
I want an interactive story. I like having dialogue options and narrative choices. That's the draw of Telltale's games. I would hardly call that a movie.
When I want action gameplay, I go to games that have a proper system implemented.
It's a game bro, like it or not.
Yet seeing zombies,Robots or giant wolves doesn't remind you your in a game?
Telltale shouldn't keep a bad element in their games just so they live up to a few people's definition of a "game".
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a bad element, I like the QTE.
Why?
It just feels nice, it is good to have some physical actions.
And I understand that. I don't expect a magnificent story from a FPS game. But if I had to read through a horribly written story in a FPS, then I would like an option to skip through it.
So I think an option not to have to do subpar action gameplay and just let the action scene play out on its on would be nice. Or at least an indication of QTEs which if the player doesn't bother doing would result in a game over or affect the story.
Which is why I asked for an option.
People who like them can still go through them. People who think they're dumb have the option not be bothered by them
This is just as stupid as someone asking for the notifications to be turned off, this is a standard and necessary game mechanic like it or not and it's going to stay like this.
Except notifications do not affect the gameplay in any way.
But getting rid of QTE events will...Majorly and not for the better...Ugh...
Jurassic Park had those 'too early/too late' QTEs
I really hate notifications
On the game?
Enough for you scream and quit the game?
Creeping...Please tell me you're just fucking with me.
Enough to break my immersion.
@GoldenPaladin I'm not, they suck. I'm not going to quit the game over it, but sweet Jesus I feel like an idiot when its on. Its like "You connected the evidence." I'm just sitting there like like no shit I did.
...Oh my...I'm just done...I'm fucking done.
Yup.
Really?
RIP @GoldenPaladin
An option to have QTE's automatically resolve is not the same as getting rid of them
I'm not sure if having the ability to turn off QTE's would be any good because we wouldn't got those long (and cool) action sequences we got in Tales From The Borderlands, because people wouldn't be able to do anything for ten to fifteen minutes, so there would be a lot more short action sequences that may or may not be as impressive or fun.
I think they could still pull off the action sequences in The Wolf Among Us with the idea you suggested, with a choice coming up asking you where you want to throw your opponent, what to smash the opponent with, etc.
Although I don't agree with your idea, I could see why some people might, but I think this would just flare up those debates about whether or not this is a game.
Hence why I said option.
I'm not advocating for the removal of QTE's just the option of not having to deal with them for people who think they're not interesting or whatever reason they have for not wanting to do QTE's.
If people think a 15 minute long sequence without QTE's is lacking, they could just reactivate them.
I think Telltale should start doing action scenes similar to the Bigby vs Woodsman fight, where you have some variety in how the action scene plays out.
They are pretty underwhelming, but the fight with the Jersey Devil in TWAU is just so satisfying, imo.
Tales from the Borderlands kinda did that. Deciding who to hit, customizing your loader bot gets you different QTE's ect.
As I said in another thread, I think it isn't so much that people don't like QTEs as much as they want QTEs to incorporate choice and/or have more gameplay. The Wolf Among Us QTEs incorporate choice in how you fight, but otherwise, QTEs in Dead/GoT/TftB mostly play out the same.
Of course, some more gameplay besides essentially pressing Q a lot would be cool, but Telltale tries to make their games accessible to casual players so that is understandable I suppose.
Yeah, that was a nice touch, still, it would be nice if you have complete control over an action scene.
Rambo the video game was sweet, he goes crazy and starts killing cops
I am a big supporter of giving gamers the option to do what they want, If their is a option, i don't have a problem with that. As long as its not forced on anyone either way, then we should be good, they should just make a option in options to turn them on or off.
