The White Among Us
Snow White should be the main character in Wolf Among Us: Season 2.
And no, it's not a stretch. She's front-and-center in Fables' second volume, Animal Farm, where Bigby takes a back seat. Snow takes charge on an unannounced visit to The Farm, and has to deal with an unpleasant reality: The Farm is a refugee camp with growing discontent.
Season One players know The Farm is crucial to the Fables universe. But, given Bigby Wolf's storied past with the non-human fables — and fable laws keeping him off the property — the only way we'll get to see the Farm is through somebody else's eyes. That's where Snow comes in.
Unveiling the Fables universe requires that we go to The Farm. We need to see how Goldilocks and the Three Bears are getting along with Shere Kahn. What happens when the Tortoise and the Hare start dreaming of revolution? What's it like for the Old Woman Who Lives In A Shoe who has to deal with centuries-old children caught in perpetual pre-adolescence? Also, how’s everybody dealing with not being allowed to leave? These are legitimate parts of the Fables story, and have crazy amounts of storytelling potential.
Throughout Fables' comics — and much of Telltale's first Fables season — Snow White gets forced into brutal pragmatism. She doesn't have Bigby's claws, but she has the authority to enact harsh justice, as long as she can find an angle. More often than not, she's stuck between a rock and a ogre's face.
This is what makes the prospect of playing as Snow ultra-fascinating: she has to make impossible decisions – but she's vulnerable. This same design is what made Clementine so compelling in Season 2 of The Walking Dead. Vulnerability breeds tension, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and makes you try your best to desperately hold things together. It worked as Bigby in Season One. And as Snow, it will turn the desperation up a notch.
Bigby had a bad reputation, but one of his main responsibilities was changing that perception to be something of a protector. The same irony applies to Snow. She's known for being pretty and soft, but her job requires an unexpected brutality. This will make for great game-decisions.
In the Animal Farm comic, Bigby played second-fiddle from a distance. We never lost sight of him, but it was clear that Animal Farm was Snow's story. Telltale would be wise to follow suit, letting players experience the weight of the world on Miss White's shoulders in the second installment.
Telltale's not done with Bigby and his universe. The last twenty seconds of Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 confused me. But this much was clear: Telltale's not done with Fables. We're not wrong to anticipate Season Two. I'm just hoping — and expecting — that Miss White takes center stage this time around, just like in Fables' second volume. And while they're at it, they should force us to deal with her skeez-bag ex-husband. Divorcees need some game time.
Comments
I think I rather like the notion. Could change some of the gameplay and step even further away from violence. Either way, I hope the episodes don't go so up and down in quality.
The neat thing about Snow as a character is that she seems to occasionally become dependent on brutal harsh violence, though that of which is performed by others in her name. Though, the Fables universe is one full of surprises. You never know what you're gonna get exactly.
Don't get me wrong, I love her, but I don't think she should be the playable character. I think that's the whole point of the Fables, she's the brains of the operation, while Bigby is the muscles. And because of Bigby's reputation, we have a chance to play the way we want - either "Bad Wolf" or "Good Wolf". I honestly cannot imagine how Telltale could pull this off with Miss White, as she's always the good one. But I do agree on the Snow White is love, Snow White is life part
I like this idea. Make it a DLC like they did with The Walking Dead 400 days.
The White Among Us...
jk
Or it could be The Snow Among Us
Snow or Cinderella would be cool
As much I would think a different protagonist would be interesting, I would prefer for Telltale to go down that path for a DLC rather than a S2. Don't get me wrong, I would still buy a S2 set in the FABLES universe regardless of the PC, I just would rather have it be Bigby.
But yeah, I'd love for a DLC that can feature Snow or another Fable and we can visit the Farm and what not. Make it happen Telltale
If Season 2 wasn't Bigby as the main character I wouldn't buy it
But....but...but....Bigby
I'm totally okay with that. Snow is awesome!
Hey, I remember you from old discussions. Nice to see you back!
Snow usually has others doing the dirty work for her, especially Bigby. At least Bigby embraces who he is and accepts it, even if he does not like his reputation all of the time. Snow tends to think she is better than many Fables, deluding herself. She does that less as the comics progressed if I remember correctly though.
I find that Snow uses her position as Deputy Mayor to some extreme length's at the beginning of the comic (like threatening to fire Bigby if he doesn't let her in on the investigation), but after the Cubs are born and she marries Bigby, she REALLY calms down and becomes a very likable person, especially to Bigby (obviously, seeing as she finally realises that she loves him).
She thinks that she is better than most because Snow used to be amongst the highest class in society back in the Homelands (Her 'dream' is for a handsome prince to sweep her off her feet and take her to a far away castle full of riches and servants, at least until Rose tells her to stop living in a fantasy) Also she believes that her murdering the Dwarves was justified despite almost starting a war.
All in all, Snow IS a lot like Bigby in that she wants to be able to do anything, but unlike Bigby she can see what will happen if she does what she wants. I guess that's why she and Bigby are so good for each other, similar mindset/personality, so they know how to hurt each other but also how to comfort each other and that's really what they both need in their lives.
Snow is now the Deputy Mayor so she doesn't have enough time to wander the streets like Bigby does; a Farm DLC would be interesting but you can't make Snow the protagonist of Season 2 or any other Season for that matter as her job means that she sits behind a desk and listens to ppl's complaints all day long! Unless that's what you want then the Season will be boring as hell...
I want to play as Snow in a DLC of Fables' second volume, Animal Farm, where Bigby takes a back seat. Snow takes charge on an unannounced visit to The Farm, and has to deal with an unpleasant reality. 5 episodes that are 1 hour or 30 minutes and all released at once would work perfectly and when we get Season 2 we play as Bigby.
Ummm, are you saying you want a DLC of 5 episodes that are roughly the same length as Ep5 of TWAU?
Also why does it have to be based on Animal Farm? They can just have Snow visit the Farm normally and talk with Weyland and the other Farm Fables about how things are going/what has changed...
It shouldn't have to be based on Animal Farm, but what you are suggesting isn't a good idea. It won't settle well with critics or most fans if a DLC like that is the last piece of Wolf content from Telltale.
Something could happen in the Farm which could lead Snow to go help, doesn't have to be a revolution.
I really hated her in the wolf among us. She seemed like such a bitch, bigby is trying to help and all she does is undermine him, with the other fables and make him look like a liar and a fool. (The situations with Aunty Greenleaf and sending Toad to the farm come to mind).
Regardless, i wouldnt want to play as her. And usually im all for more playable female protagonists.
Lol honestly coming into this thread I thought it was going to be a complaint about how every character is white.
Snow has had a very hard life; she only starts warming up to Bigby in the earlier issues of the comics (I won't say why under the pretence that you haven't read the comics, if you have then let me know)
Do you mean that MY suggestion of going to the Farm normally won't be appreciated by fans or critics?
Really? I don't know about comic but Snow in the game did not impress me at all. Conceit, moody office woman.
There are more interesting female characters in Telltale's game world.
TEAM BIGBY!
As interesting as it may seem to play one of the sole representatives of Fabletown's government, I doubt most players would approve of Snow being the main highlight of the entire season.
Your suggestion was:
That won't settle well with fans and critics because it will be a less than disappointing end to this series if a DLC is the last thing we see from Telltale in the FABLES universe.
No, i havent read the comics. Are they worth starting? I liked the idea of fabletown, and most of the characters. Snow is the only one who really annoyed me.
Oh ok... A DLC won't be the last thing we see!
The series has been running since mid-2002 and is ending in March next year, it has 146 issues out and 147 will be released this Wednesday, 150 will be the last issue.
The series is amazing and so are it's many spin-offs, this game got me into the comics and I don't normally read comic books, but I have most of the collection in my cupboard and I don't ever plan on getting rid of them.
The characters get tons of development in the comics, especially Bigby and Snow who are main characters in most issues.
So yeah the series is worth reading... Get to it!!!
Thanks for the recommendation Hazzatheman! I think ill give it a shot
I would totally dig playing as her. I love her character.
I would love to believe that, but since Telltale has been silent for so long about S2 all I have been holding on to is for them to at least punch out a DLC... make it happen Telltale!
I don't know, I love Snow character (she's my second favourite character in the Fables Universe, both comics and games, right after Bigby), but I'm not 100% sure her character will work as a player character.
Bigby works (as a player character) because he's the sheriff, and is bound get into conflicts where he needs to fight and get his hands dirty. But for Snow, I don't think the same can apply, unless you get in a situation where Snow is in a place where Bigby can't go (hence he can't protect her there), and the only place that situation applies is the Farm.
And I don't wish to see the retread of the whole Animal Farm arc storyline again (where characters try to assassinate Snow, or start another revolution). While using her that way as a playable character is possible, if it is just the same storyline as comic's arc (with some characters replaced), then I wouldn't really be interested.
I'd much rather see Cinderella as a playable character (possibly in a DLC, since I still want Bigby to continue to be main character in Season 2). She's Fabletown's best Spy, trained in art of combat (except for swords, that's Bluebeard) by Bigby, so can handle herself, and player can use her being a spy for stealth movement options (i.e. sneaking around etc), and she pretty much travels the world on missions, so she wouldn't be only in one location (i.e. Fabletown) like majority of Fabletown characters.
Sound cool we could make snow not be totally rude and ungrateful to everyone all the time. Im not totally against playing as both of them really
Glad I could help
My one problem for Cinderella is that they will make her fights very athletic and she won't get hit, Bigby's fights are vicious and he does get hurt, in spite of the fact that he trained Cindy in combat! They could put Snow in a situation by not having Bigby around, here's an example:
Christmas DLC, Bigby is called to one location while a bad guy (let's say Bloody Mary) goes to kill Snow under the assumption that she can't defend herself...)
Sounds racist
But Cindy not being hit by others (with exceptions of best assassins like Bo Peep, or other villains like Dorothy Gale etc) is when she has become fully-fledged Fabletown's (best) spy. Nobody starts off like that, and Cindy had centuries to perfect her skills in the trade.
They can just have DLC based on when Cindy first started out on her missions (or something like she's she's only been on the job for couple of months, or sometime during the first or second year)
With Snow, well, we all know how proficient she is with the swords, but how proficient is she in hand-to-hand combat?
Can't imagine her to be beating the bad guys up like Cindy or Bigby, and it kinda makes me think it will be like portrayal of an adult version of Clementine, on the run (though occasionally fighting back), but minus the zombies and apocalypse. I'm not really sure if that's something I'd like to see (could be good, but could also be just rehash of The Walking Dead series, which I don't wish to see)
I'm most likely to be in minority with this, but that's how I feel about it.
Have you by chance read Fairest Volume 4 Of Men and Mice? Snow has a couple of moments where she uses her bare hands to fight, the way she fights almost suggests that Bigby taught her given how vicious her style is, but her encounters a very brief so it may just be her own knowledge...
Also, I've always stood by saying that 'Cindy is the one you bring in for a dangerous mission, Bigby is the one you bring in to do the impossible' I can't imagine Cindy being superior to Bigby even if he remains in human form, but he still gets hit and she doesn't...
Example's of Snow fighting in Fairest Volume 4:
To name a few...
Yeah, I did read Fairest Volume 4 already. Snow fought with skills during that fight with the mice-men, but I have a very strong feeling those fighting skills were pretty much taught by Bigby during their time in Wolf Manor (they did spend a long time as husband and wife afterall).
(While I'm all for independent Snow) I just feel if we jump into TWAU Season 2 or a DLC with Snow as the main character (with her kicking around bad guys), it will be too much radical of a change (and too quick too, unless TWAU DLC or Season 2 is set long time after Season 1) from the Snow that we've seen in Season 1 (afterall, there is very long time period between the time TWAU events happened and time when Fairest: Of Mice and Men arc occured).
Does it really matter whether Cindy gets hit or not (scratches head in puzzlement)? We as players will be the ones controlling Cindy (this is assuming she gets a DLC), and it will depend on the player's QTE skills on whether she gets hit or not in the game. And the more they make Cindy a rookie spy (i.e. it's Cindy's first mission or it's only been short time since she started the spy work), the more it makes sense she would get hit / make mistakes, because she even says in the comics, she had lifetimes of period to hone in and refine her skills to become Fabletown's best spy.
But even if they set the potential Cindy DLC as same time as TWAU season 1, I have no problem with that, because as I've said, it all depends on the player's QTE skills.
Cindy not getting hit in the comics (though I do remember her getting hit quite a bit by Rodney and June, but I guess she had a handicap since she had a broken arm), is Cindy in her current prime as a spy - TWAU games don't necessarily need to follow that (she could encounter other powerful Fables who are spies for other Fabletowns etc, can get injured etc).
