Mid-budget? (Which is practically non-existant now). It's not super indie, with Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansenn, but it's not The Avengers either. It cost $23M. Barely back it's cost domestically ($25M); doubled it worldwide. But Spike Jonze has only done four or five movies. And they're amazing... I loved Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. Actually, the woman in the above movie is pretty famous (Bae Doona, she was also in the Wachowski siblings' Cloud Atlas and will be in Jupiter Rising) but if I remember correctly I heard she did the movie for free.
Haven't seen half those movies or some of which yall mentioned. Want to see gone girl, everyone is talking about it. I want to see nightcrawlers. But for me amazing Spider-Man 2
Also, why are there a bunch of Korean gangsters running around Taipei? It's not like it indicates they're part of an international Korean gang or anything.
it looks very interesting. hopefully is not what i think it is, cuz by looking t the trailer and how they show the plot i hope i havent figured it out already
I haven't seen that many this year but my five favorites that I have seen are Boyhood, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Lego Movie, X-Men Days of Future Past, and Guardians of the Galaxy. I really want to see Nightcrawler, Fury, Gone Girl, Birdman, and How to Train Your Dragon 2.

OHHH yeah i heard about boyhood. damn i want to see it. chuck its a film about life, about what goes on on the life of a boy for 12 years nd all the shit he goes through. but heres the kicker, this film started filiming 12 YEARS AGO. same cast same everything just filming over the years and probably adding shit as the time passed by, look it up for better info, but i was amazed when they said that they were filming it for 12 years.

Damn dude a film that was in the making for 12 years? That must've been extremely tough. Man, if the director put that much effort into a film like that, I have to see it.

Just..just go see it. I'd put it up there with Saving Private Ryan as one of the most accurately portrayed war films, considering the psychological mind fucking horror these men had to face. I was stressed out and uncomfortable throughout the whole movie, as I should be, considering the grim and unnerving content. I was nearly in tears at the end, and I had a heaviness in my heart for two days afterwards, but it was worth it. And I would see it again, because it's only when your heart hurts after seeing a movie when you know it was a damn good film.
Into the Storm and Guardians of the Galaxy. Will probably add These Final Hours to the list after I see it (you probably won't have heard of it though.)
Fury ripped my heart out, but it was amazing.

This guy stole the show for me.
X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow, and Big Hero 6 are all fun movies
John Wick - There isn't much plot to it. It's great to look at that though. It's basically Keanu Reeves killing a lot of people like Denzel Washington in The Equalizer
Mockingjay Part 1 - I hate Part 1's with a passion now. They pulled this with Harry Potter. It's just a marketing scam to drag the franchises longer and make more money. It's still pretty good though I guess, even though like all Part 1's it ends right when it begins. Natalie Dormer is beautiful, so there's that.

Interstellar is very good and complex. I went into the theater expecting it to be crap, but by the end, I loved it. The FX is good, and doesn't look cheesy or truly fake in any part. Must see movie: A+
Edge of Tomorrow was a good movie with few moments that made me call BS. Most action movies are like that these days. [Sigh] It was very good though.
Godzilla was a good movie. With the older ones, the humans either felt like a subplot or the main characters, instead of Godzilla. This movie payed more attention to the humans while also paying attention to the monsters. Being a long time Godzilla fan, I can say that I was satisfied with this movie.
Bump: I JUST saw Whiplash today. I'm pretty sure most of you haven't even heard a single thing about this film. But my god this movie, is one of the most intense movie I've seen. For some of you Portal 2 fans out there, JK Simmons plays the role of a music teacher, and my GOD he is an ASSHOLE! I extremely recommend this movie. This is possibly one of the best movies I've seen in 2014. Do NOT pass this one up people!
Bump: I just saw Big Hero 6. I have to say, I thought the movie was good, but not exactly as great as I wanted it to be. I still love Baymax though. It doesn't reach my list of top 10 movies of 2014, but I'd say it's a solid honorable mention.
I've got a lot of catching up to do, but the best movies I've seen this year are Guardians of the Galaxy, Gone Girl, Captain America: Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and The Babadook. If you like horror, make sure to watch The Babadook. It's not filled with gore or jump scares, but it's genuinely creepy (gave me chills) and features superb acting.
I heard about The Babadook. Although I'm not a big fan of horror movies (games are a different story) The Babadook most certainly looks like a great horror film since it's not filled to the brim with aggressive jump scares and all that crap.
Also, good call on Gone Girl. That is a great movie.

Thanks, Whiplash is on my to-do list now. I'm being literal. I have a long list of movies I want to watch including Birdman, Big Hero 6, Boyhood, The Imitation Game, Zero Theorem.... I could go on for a while. :P

Saw the final part of The Hobbit earlier this afternoon, the battle scenes were awesome as usual, and the orc designs were really interesting to look at too!

I liked 22 Jump Street a lot as well. However, I thought 21 Jump Street was a bit better. When I saw that they were making a sequel, I thought that was a dumb idea because now it feels like they're just milking out dumb sequels because the Jump Street series is starting to get popular.

I didn't think Her was an indie film. But I did see it last year and I thought it was incredible!

I really want to see Fury and Dawn.
The only movie I've seen this year was Amazing Spiderman 2, it was alright I guess.
I don't see as much movies as I used to, but here are my favorites:
Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
X-Men: Days of Future Past
I want to see Nightcrawler out of all the movies I've mentioned.
Why was the super drug killing her....
Why did the super drug made her a computer...
A lot of questions but still a good action movie.

I saw Her this year so I'll count it for this year. Guardians of the Galaxy was a fun movie as well as The Raid 2.
Hell yea for The Raid 2. How did you think of it?
I heard that Boyhood was extremely critically acclaimed by a lot of people. Why is that?

The Grand Budapest Hotel. One of the best movies I've seen in my life.
Bump: Just seen Nightcrawler, and I thought it was great!
wow SPR??? Really?? you are comparing it to pvt. ryan??? damn i got to see this movie then
fuck yeah
Saving Private Ryan is the superior movie, but I'd definitely put Fury in the top 5 best war flicks imo.
wow... got to see it.
Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
How To Train Your Dragon 2
Guardians of the Galaxy
Fury
X-Men: Days of Future Past

GOTG #1 for me! My favorite movie of all time.
Kind of a tie between GOTG and Big Hero 6. I loved them both.

I know what you mean. I've almost seen all the movies I want to see for this year. What I want to see now are Birdman and John Wick.
Saw the final part of The Hobbit earlier this afternoon, the battle scenes were awesome as usual, and the orc designs were really interesting to look at too!
Loved 22 Jump Street.
Not happy they're making another sequel though.
I'm probably the only one that hasnt seen any of the hobbit movies... yet at least.
I liked 22 Jump Street a lot as well. However, I thought 21 Jump Street was a bit better. When I saw that they were making a sequel, I thought that was a dumb idea because now it feels like they're just milking out dumb sequels because the Jump Street series is starting to get popular.
