Brain fart
There are a few very intelligent people on this forum, so what is the term meaning "to know your own mortality". It's the one thing that separates us from every other animal on Earth but I cannot recall the specific terminology and google has little to offer. The word does exist, but I cannot think of it.

Not sure if that's what you need...

Your Conscience ?
Not quite what I was looking for, but I might be able to twist that to the manner I need. Thanks
Well aren't you a treat.
Why not ask on linguistics boards?

Oh, also there are way more things that separate us from animals than that. Such as humans using cars on their own. What you put is what my old university tutor would call 'emotive guff'. We have no way of knowing whether animals know they can die or not, although it's evolutionarily likely that they do.
Well...I' just going to stop there are that's offensive to a lot of people whom you don't consider intelligent.
SHIT, Flog thank you, you saved me.
Quick, change your 'who' to 'whom' before you face the wrath of the OP's judgement!
He decides who is intelligent and who isn't!
I demand a re-election!
Edited for possible misunderstanding.
If only!
I live in the U.S, so I'm used to the ability to impeach presidents if they aren't performing correctly.
There's always...Revolution.
Idem.
Do you mean there aren't that many intelligent people here, or there are some very smart people here?
Oh, very good point.
If the latter I'll take most of what I said back, although the basis of he himself deciding who is and isn't intelligent is dangerous, and saying there are a ;few' very intelligent people implies quite a lot aren't which is similar to what we misunderstood it as in the first place.
For now I'll edit my post.
I don't think he meant it in a negative way. He didn't specifically call out names, although I can see how his phrasing could be considered rude.
What we mean is irrelevant in language, what matters is how others perceive it.
An ape can drive a car. Not to the extent we can, but most any single thing we do another animal can do on a primitive level. All excluding having knowledge of our imminent demise. We have no reason to believe they know they will die, and since they lack knowing what they are or why they exist beyond procreation it stands to reason they don't know of their own mortality. I'm not going to use a linguistics forum simply because it wasn't that important. It wasn't a reason to go and make an account to ask a single question. If I had questions often about language I may, but I don't so I won't.
I would apologize, but I don't care. If you, or anyone else, is offended by labeling themselves as unintelligent then so be it. I called a few people very smart. If a person decides that they aren't categorized by that then it's them belittling themselves, not me.
The "few" was referencing "very intelligent," yes.
What's meant is hardly irrelevant. If Steven Hawking goes to a school for mentally handicapped people and gives a simplified lesson on how the universe was formed but the information is not perceived correctly by the majority of the class does that make him incorrect, or his words irrelevant?
If I find the meaning to life and try to proclaim it to the world, yet the majority do not perceive it correctly at first, are those words irrelevant?
An ape can be aware of illness and the prospect of being wounded, not to the extent we can.
No it doesn't make him incorrect, but it does mean that his words have had a bad effect and doesn't stop that.
'The road to hell is paved with good intentions' is applicable to neutral language.
No, unless people find the words an insult, in which case them being upset is more of a priority then you being right.
I don't but it's rude.
Well its not, but okay.
An ant will take the body of an individual of the hive who has succumbed to cordycepts and put it far outside of the home to prevent future infection. A spider can be aware of movement on their web. A certain type of spider can make a crude recreation of a larger spider on a web to keep would-be predators at bay for fear of attacking something that the spider isn't. A spider recreating the likeness of a spider? This must suggest the spider has intimate knowledge about what it is and what it looks like in order to create such a thing, right? No. This hardly suggest knowledge of the self considering their brain has little more juice than a remote control. Self sustaining instinct is not knowledge of mortality, it's evolutionary steps taken to continue the species.
Why is it no other animals pay homage to something they proclaim a god?
Bad effect and irrelevant are not the same thing. Being insulting and being irrelevant are not the same thing.
I guess some people have low enough self-esteem that this would bother them. Not only that but I'm not saying people here are dumb, I'm saying there are a few very intelligent people here. The average person is not above average intelligence.
Moving it outside to prevent infection is knowledge of the self.
All the knowledge we have comes from evolution, especially the knowledge that we can die.
You don't appear to have grasped my point as I never said they were the same thing.
You didn't mean for people to take the comment badly. Fact.
People did take it badly. Fact.
The latter is more important, because regardless of your personal opinions about what you meant, people are still upset, and saying 'I wasn't trying to upset you' isn't going to make it better. Consider someone hitting on someone in a pub. He says 'I really want to fuck you dude' and t'other man replies 'That's really creepy'. It is not a valid defence for person number A to cry 'BUT I DIDNT MEAN IT TO BE CREEPY' as the fact is the person he was addressing with his words did find it so.
Idem for what you did.
'It's their fault if I've upset them/if they are depressed/ if they were assaulted'
Sincerely, every victim blamer ever.
But I guess it's all subjective, isn't it? I could be offended by flowers, and others can be offended by not offensive words.
Oh please, this is not a case of victim blaming. This is a case of people wanting to be victims. As I stated above: "I'm not saying people here are dumb, I'm saying there are a few very intelligent people here." I never excluded anyone from this list, and I never told anyone they were not smart. Get over your petty, imaginary grievances. Note the italicized words, that is where emphasizing words comes into play.
What is meant is not irrelevant because some people perceive it in a different manner.
How else would the meaning of this sentence play out, exactly?
It is not knowledge of the self. That ant doesn't know about the existence of that ant. That ant doesn't even know about the other ants around it. It reacts to pheromones and plays on nothing but instinct. It does not think or know.
The knowledge we have does not come from evolution, the ability to understand that knowledge does. We do not grow knowing we will die.
The word is Suimortecognescent.
Just made that up. Guess that procludes me from being one of the intelligent ones here...
I disagree with you, i think there are quite a few fellow geni,
hehe
Yup, I see we can all just get past this so have a good day.
Fuckin' George!
Geni is the plural of Genius ( in case you didn't know :P) MOST OF MY LOLS R WASTED HERE! Most people don't understand what i'm saying because its BEYOND THEIR FEEBL MINDZ
