Rewatching Shows from Your Childhood

edited January 2015 in General Chat

Have you ever gone back and watched a tv show from when you were a little kid and understood it completely differently? I'm rewatching Boy Meets World, which I probably saw in elementary or middle school. There are a lot of good lessons for kids, but there are so many dirty jokes that few completely over my head back then. Example:

The episode is basically imitating Taming of the Shrew, and they're trying to make this unattractive girl look beautiful, so they cut out a bunch of magazine images and paste them together as an example. The mother walks in and says, oh that's horrible, they look starved and have had surgery to look like some male fantasy. She then asks "Where did you get these pictures?" "In the magazines on your nightstand." Then she says "You didn't open the drawer did you?" Then she walks off.

Kid Me; Oh, she doesn't want them going through her stuff.

Me now: Haha, vibrator...

Either that or it really was an innocent joke and I've grown up to have a dirty dirty mind.

  • Me now: Haha, vibrator...

    Uh... okay...

Anyway, I rewatched Ed, Edd, n Eddy and I think its better now that I get the "mature" humor.

  • Yeah, I'm rewatching Drake & Josh, and it's more funny than I remember it... My childhood was great :)

  • I've rewatched some Rocko's Modern Life. Never noticed how dark and sexually frustrated that show was until I watched it as an adult.

I rewatched Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark a few years ago. It's funny how horrible and cheesy the acting was. I got scared pretty easily as a kid; though, to be fair, there are some things in both shows that are still kinda freaky to this day.

I've also rewatched a few episodes of The Powerpuff Girls. They put an unplanned pregnancy joke in one episode, and another is a giant parody of The Beatles.

  • I've rewatched CatDog. What the heck was I into back then?

I watched some episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark recently as well. Yeah, it was not that interesting as I remember it. Also watched some episodes of Batman the Animated Series and outside of a few episodes I did not find it very nostalgic nor interesting.

  • I might rewatch Ren and Stimpy and Salad Fingers. I think those shows are the reason why I'm so messed up now.

  • That really was a good show back in the day... They don't really make much entertaining, educational programming anymmore do they...

  • Man, this weekend has been a blur...

Nope, they don't make anything this funny anymore. Television is too serious nowadays for my taste.

I like Jeanne's fat ass, what can i say
