A Problem...

edited January 2015 in General Chat

I'm genuinely worried about the outcome of all Telltale games in 2015. Why? Because of the amount there actually are. Think about it, many people believe that the main reason for TWD S2 mediocrity is due to to the development of TWAU. If a game was ruined because of ONE game being developed at the same time, then imagine how Telltale's 2015 lineup will be, with the development of Tales From The Borderlands, Game Of Thrones, Minecraft: Story Mode, The Walking Dead S3, AND The Wolf Among Us S2. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this topic, as I've never seen anyone talk talk about it on these forums.

EDIT: I've just found out that Telltale are working on an original IP on their Twitter, so that's ANOTHER game on our list.

Comments

  • Actually they were probably working on four games at once (I would assume that the first episode of a series is the hardest and requires the most attention & detail.). That's why episodes 4-5 of TWAU is not up to par with the 1-3 and why parts of TWD S2 were iffy. A good episode of TWAU usually was meant with a mediocre (or bad) episode of TWD and vice versa. But who knows. Both TftB & GoT first episodes were pretty great....outside some glitches and background issues of GoT.

  • If a game was ruined because of ONE game being developed

Except that isn't the case, there is no proof of this at all. All it is is people trying to find as to why in their OPINION season 2 was bad, let's not forget that season 2 is much more well praised on almost any site other than this one.

  • AND The Wolf Among Us S2.

    Nope, that's not happening.

  • Never saw anyone say Wolf Among us made Season 2 bad

  • Yet they were still both great games.

  • Well I have...

  • When Telltale decided to do TWAU and TWD S2 at the same time, mistakes were definitely made, despite my love for both games. It was the first time a company like this has ever done two games at once, but now that it's over, Telltale has seemed to work out the kinks and fixed the mistakes that were made during the making of these games. Look at the first episodes of TFTBL and GOT, both great starts to the series, and as long as they don't mix the writers up like they did in the TWD and TWAU (i.e. have people write for both games), then I see no problem with them working on multiple games.

Also, Kevin Bruner has stated that Telltale has grown considerably since their inception and are continuing to grow, meaning there is a bigger staff, meaning more writers, designers, animators, etc. With this additional staff, they can work on multiple games, again, without needing to have multiple people work on multiple games like they did with TWAU and TWD S2. So you can rest easy knowing that the writers of TWD will stay separate from the writers of Minecraft and any other game that may come out in the future.

Also, no one confirmed a S2 of TWAU.

  • Really? Cos I thought I saw someone mention it at one point... It was on Youtube... So they're probably just bull####ing. Anyway, thanks! I have nothing to worry about now.

  • They are bullshitting you. The only source you can trust is Telltale themselves, so unless it comes directly from them, it's not true.

Many people believing something doesn't make it fact. Wolf Among Us was announced literally at the same press event as Walking Dead: Season One. In February 2011.

Not that I am one of those people who thinks that Jake and Sean are the "only good Walking Dead" writers, but I think the change from Season 1 to Season 2 in part was due to the main writers of the first Season moving on from Telltale to create their own company, Campo Santo games. I'd hardly say that Telltale multitasking made Walking Dead Season 2 worse. In Telltale's more recent years (since like 2010 or so), they've always had more than one game in the pipeline at once.

  • Well, not confirmed at the time anyways for all we know.

AND The Wolf Among Us S2. Nope, that's not happening.

  • Hopefully one day.

...As opposed to the other companies who make episodic point and click adventures based off of existing franchises? ;)

  • Well, to be honest saying that Walking Dead S2 or Wolf Among Us were ruined because of one another is just a matter of opinion. Even though I personally wasn't a big fan of S2, it did well pretty well with the critics and a decent portion of the fanbase. Wolf Among Us did really well with both and is being nominated for a ton of GOTY awards.

Even if you worry that 2 games is too for Telltale to handle, Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones have two completely separate teams, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Also, Telltale is expanding their company (currently hiring) so they will be becoming a bigger company able to handle more. I trust Telltale with the amount they have going on ATM.

  • By that I meant a small company doing multiple games. Telltale is still a relatively small company and the worry is that a small staff would be overworked and deviate attention from one project, causing it to suffer. That's what I meant.

a very small amount and it does not mean it is true

with the development of Tales From The Borderlands, Game Of Thrones, Minecraft: Story Mode, The Walking Dead S3, AND The Wolf Among Us S2

tales and got will be done by then, got s2 won't have any effect as it will most likely be in early stages, twau s2 isn't even confirmed yet the only one that could affect it is minecraft

  • Wow, they should hire you as their project manager.

Seriously though, I think Telltale knows what they're getting into and what they can juggle. It's a business; they wouldn't be starting new franchises if they didn't have the resources (people, time, budget) to do so.
