Yeah, I have the Trade Paperbacks, and the Deluxe Edition Volume 1 you're getting consists of TPB Volume 1 and 2. TPB Volume 3 (and some

  • I figured I might engage in the frowned upon act of thread bumping to say that my deluxe edition just arrived and I intend to read a little bit later tonight.:)

  • I am once again bumping this thread, because I would rather not create a new one. I just finished the first Deluxe Edition. As for whether or not I enjoyed it and want to keep going with the series, the short answer is yes. The long answer is that though the series seems to be going through some growing pains in the beginning, I still enjoyed it enough overall.

Sure, the first story arc is full of stilted introductory dialogue, and even the second story arc isn't completely void of it. "Seriously Rose. Don't make me explain things to you in a way that's convenient for the reader to understand." Sure, some effort was put in to disguise it, but it is obvious at times that the purpose of certain lines of dialogue is to establish certain characters and concepts. The second arc is a little better in that regard since it gets most of this stuff out of the way in issues 6 and 7, but not by much. Also, Colin, noooo!!!

Overall though, I enjoyed both story arcs even though they appear to be widely considered among the worst in the series. It is good to see some of the characters from TWAU again, and some characters like King Cole who are only mentioned in passing in TWAU. Also, it is good to actually see The Farm, since it too is only mentioned in passing up till that point. I look forward to actually seeing the 13th floor at some point, whenever that might be. I also like some of the characters not seen in TWAU, with Rose being my favorite, followed by The Forsworn Knight.

Anyways, so far I'm enjoying the series, and I intend to check out the next Deluxe Edition in the near future.

  • Honestly keep going, the series only gets better and better imo :D

The next Deluxe Edition includes Volume 3's story arc, that arc will change a lot about Fables for two particular characters...

That's good to know. Given that half a year passed at the end of the second story arc, some characters die and Rose has a new position, it seems unlikely that there is some status quo that the series is building up to that it will coast on, which means that Willingham isn't afraid to step outside the box for the sake of storytelling. Here's hoping the 13th floor won't need nearly as much stilted dialogue to set up, though I get the sense that most of that is out of the way now that most of the set pieces are in place. Since I enjoyed the first Deluxe Edition, I don't think there's much reason why I shouldn't check out the next one.
