edited January 2015 in General Chat

What were the misconceptions you had as a kid?

When i was about 4 i thought that songs in other languages, (My native language is spanish) were people making random noises and that there was only one president that governed the whole world.

  • When I was a kid, I thought kisses lead to pregnancy. Oh, how innocent I was at that time.

Nothing close to a depraved pervert I am now.

  • I thought kisses lead to pregnancy.

I did too, and I was immensely afraid of that as well. Lmao.

  • My parents would make me turn my head during movie kiss scenes so I wouldn't really think of that :p

  • I thought that all people were naturally good and tried to believe that there was no evil in this world. Boy was I fucking wrong, the world is a giant shit hole. We got terrorists, Iran, North Korea, Russia in Ukraine, China's hacking the U.S., illegals crossing the border, drug cartels, pot becoming legalized, Michael Bay keeps making movies, the list goes on and on. I look at the person who I was and I laugh because I was foolish to believe such bullshit.

Mine didn't, so it led to some rather interesting conclusions on my part. xD

  • I used to think all dogs were male and all cats were female.

  • I always thought that reruns of cartoons weren't reruns in the sense that they remade the same episode over and over again each time it aired again. lmao

I also used to think that when a show would air in a foreign country; it'd be in a different character's POV and focus around them rather than the usual main character. I was a weird kid.

  • You forgot the US on that list. And really, legalizing pot is on there? But I will conclude that was a joke because of what you said following that.

When i was a kid I thought Pokemon was a bad series. Oh how wrong I was.

  • The Michael Bay part was a joke, but I was completely serious about pot. I am a fervent detractor of this whole legalize pot movement, marijuana is a drug and nothing else and shouldn't be legalized in any way, shape, or form.

  • When I was about 3 I thought my dog was my brother and that he'd come out of my mum's belly button too. I remember being embarrassed to tell my friends about him because I thought he was weird XD

  • Then I hope you think we should ban alcohol?

  • I'm not a huge fan of drinking either, but as long as it's not excessive or binge drinking and taken in small amounts, it doesn't cause that many problems. Not to mention pot, due to the higher dosage of THC in pot nowadays, can lead to more health problems if continually taken by people. Both are frankly bad habits that can lead to health problems later on in life, but I trust people to use alcohol responsibly more than I do to use marijuana responsibly.

I'm not sure about that, to my understanding alcohol abuse is more harmful, but I'm in favor of legalization because I'm against mass incarceration for non-violent drug offences, both because of how it destroys the lives of the incarcerated (far more so than pot could ever do), and because of the prison industrial complex which has sprung up in large part due to war on drugs. Not to mention, if you legalize pot, you can taxes, and I'd prefer state revenue from pot to state expenditure on prisons. I suppose you can have possession as a violation and give a fine, but it shouldn't be more than that (except things like DUI). As a tertiary, there's always just the liberty argument. Pot's not good for you, but a lot of people like to smoke it, the same way people like drinking, and though you can advise against it, I don't think it's bad enough to warrent a governmental ban.

  • Eating just the icing off of cakes would give you worms. Yipes! (my mom preventing me from eating the supplies for baking a cake)

Turned out to be squeaky bedsprings.

*Giving birth involved slicing open your stomach.

    *Babies came from the ground.

*Cannibals were a type of dog.

*(Don't hate me) People with different skin colors felt different pressures on their body.

    *Gay only meant happy.

    *A recorder was a flute.

*The other cars on the road drove themselves.

  • Your a expert?

Marijuana never killed anyone, that i know of. However how many people OD on prescription pain killers, caffeine, whatever. The only reason why Marijuana was banned in the first place is because of money. Learn the history dude. Hemp was cheaper to produce than paper, so what did the paper companies do... LOBBY. 60 years later its becoming legalized, sign of social progress.

  • I remember I used to think that superheroes like Spiderman, Batman, and Superman were real. Because someone dressed up as Spiderman for one of my birthday. And here's a good one, I saw the 1960's version of the Batmobile on the street on day. There was a guy with sunglasses on next to it, so my uncle told me that was Robin and Batman was somewhere else. Pretty cool story huh?

When I was a kid I thought that Santa Claus was real since someone who dress up as him visited my house one day and gave me ice cream, so every Christmas Eve night I would ask my mom to bake cookies and get a glass of milk to put on the table for Santa to eat :P I even mailed a list of things I wanted when I was a kid to the North Pole.

I thought mailing things were free.

I thought everything they showed on Television was real.

I thought that ghosts stared into my windows at night.

I thought that I could be a mother to a bunch of chicks.

I used to think signatures from famous people were nothing special - somewhat true I guess lol

After watching a documentary on Sharks, I was afraid of ever taking a bath again because I though a Shark would pop up in my bathtub if I filled it with water XD

  • You know that feeling you get when you paint your face? The pressure from the paint? When I was little, I thought people with a darker skin color than me (I'm white... Obviously) felt that little pressure. I made the mistake, at the age of 4, by asking a black girl (11 - 13). She just laughed. I know better now.

  • I used to think that if I tried for long enough, I could learn to make things move without touching them. Like, make the TV remote jump from the table to my hand. I tried it on the odd occasion just to make sure.

I screamed a lot when sprinting or other power based exercises because I believed it would make me stronger (thanks Dragonball Z)
