Why are Female Main Characters outnumbering Males in Games with Good Stories?

  • Because women are bad ass and.........................................hot.

  • I don't think a reason is necessary. If the story is good, it's good.

Who cares whether the protagonist is male or female.

  • If they are I hadn't noticed. I dont think they are

  • I don't see how female characters are outnumbering males in games with good stories.....

  • If anything, male characters still outnumber female characters.

  • ...Lili is the main star in the Tekken series?

Unless that's Jin or Lars in a drag.

  • You couldn't even play as the girl from devil may cry.

Because women are more cool and interesting than pervy men. Sorry.

  • What? There's lots of good stories in video games with a male protagonist. Besides, why does it matter?

  • Pervy men? What games have pervy men as the protagonist?

  • Umm that picture is kinda inaccurate for your question. Thousands of dude games out there, so the ones with females leads need to stick out more with an interesting story.

  • Yes, I wanna see how many you can actually name.

  • How? You're the one who asked and said there were many.

  • For me, it doesn't matter if the protagonist is male or female. If the story's good, I'm sold.

  • With the picture you used, I'd think they're mostly being used as eye candy.

In reality, though, it's more acceptable for females in our society to show complex emotions and vulnerability, which makes female protagonists perfect for more introspective games. If you like those, then that's why the most interesting games have female leads.

  • You mad bro?

I'd love to see your definition of 'good' BTW. Last I checked, Resident Evil 6 had objectively more male protagonists AND a pretty rubbish plot.

  • Gosh darn people. >:(

    People.

  • But Commander Shepard can be male OR female...

Commander Sheppard can be either male or female even if FemShep is better so that doesn't really count, FFXIII's story is absolute shit so that doesn't count, Tekken has more male characters than female ones and the story isn't very good if I remember correctly, Dead or Alive doesn't have a good story either, Resident Evil 6 has more male playable protagonists than female and a shit story so that doesn't count either, Wonder Woman is most definitely not the protagonist of Injustice so that doesn't count either.

Really the only examples I can think of are Walking Dead Season 2, Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea (Not even the main game just the DLC), Tomb Raider, and I think that's it, I mean that I've played, I haven't played Remember me or Life is Strange so I wouldn't know about that and I actually haven't played that many recent games, still the examples in that picture are pretty weak and I'm pretty sure the one on the far right is Nova from StarCraft: Ghost which doesn't even exist as a game so it doesn't count since I doubt she's the protagonist of StarCraft 2 and I'm pretty sure Heroes of the Storm doesn't have a story.

Crap I forgot about Metroid, they don't necessarily have the best stories since besides Other M it's mostly in the background and Other M sucks, but the lore on Metroid Prime was really interesting and I quite liked it but that's hardly modern I guess.

  • Cause people cried about it, so now we have a influx of "female protagonist games." I'm twenty eight years old, and i been playing games for a long time. Girls have always been main characters in video games.

There is Samus from metroid, i could namedrop game character after game character. It wasn't as bad until people made it out to be, now i was on Steam i was just checking out Life is Strange Steam page, and now they actually have a category called "female protagonist."

    TUMBLR TEARS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I wonder in five years will we have a category called male protagonist on steam LOL. Stupid. To me it doesn't matter if i play a male character or a female character. Does it really matter to you people? FFS i played as Clementine LOL.

  • It matters, some stories just work better with male protagonists, others work with female. And lol at that pic you posted.

    Feminism! Lol

Feminists believe they should have as much equal rights as men, so creating female protagonists and characters makes them happy.

  • Not really true... It just seems like we're getting more female characters with good stories because we're used to little to no good female protagonists. It's only just recently that females are getting more recognision in games, as well as different sexualities other than heterosexual, stuff like that, which is great!

  • Now that's rude. George is a good man.

    Fuck you're still here.

  • Both TWDS2 and Burial at Sea's stories are absolute shit too.
