Theory for why Season 2 is taking so long to be announced...

Now, The Wolf Among Us was a prequel to the comics, set about 20 years before the comics in fact. Because of this, Mr. Willingham had trouble agreeing with TellTale on a story for the game, that both made sense with fans of the comics, and would be canon with the comics. Because of this, TellTale had to restart from scratch multiple times with the story, just to appease to Bill. Plenty of evidence of this, with reused characters, such as Cryer, etc. Anyway, I think the reason Season 2 is taking so long to be announced is because once again, Bill doesn't agree with TellTale's story, and TellTale is having to start from scratch multiple times, again, just to make Season 2 canon. So, at the very least, that's what I think, what about you all?

  • I assume (*if *they are going to make a season 2) they're trying to come up with a good story.

  • That may be one reason, but I don't think that's a major factor. They have 3 games on their hands atm, and it takes all their time.

  • I think Willingham trustes them more now, most people think its Trying to get a new deal with Virtigo

  • I think they have learned from their first go around about keeping things cannon. I'm sure it's just that they have a few irons on the fire at present and will get to it when they can

  • There is of course the whole 'agreeing with the story' part of the argument, but like @Poogers555 said, TellTale are probably negotiating a new deal with Vertigo...

Also TellTale have their hands full with their games right now :/

That sounds possible. But seeing as how Telltale announced TWD Season 3 early on and not even a new TWAU game yet, a new TWAU game may still just be an idea. I'd like to hope that a new TWAU game is currently being written and negotiated, though.

TellTale would be stupid to not try another Season. TWAU did amazingly well with critics and gamers alike!!

Profit drives companies; ppl buy COD games cuz there will be at least 1 thing different the next time around. Infinity Ward and Treyarch must make tons of money from COD games...

TellTale isn't a very big company (just under 200 employees) so every form of profit is a winner for them.

  • I totally agree. It may just be like you said too that Telltale has got their hands full at the moment.

  • Could they be waiting for the last issue of Fables (#150) to come out? They might be doing this in terms of marketing, to try to have both releases coincide, so that people with high emotion from the final comic (who are probably wanting more Fables) are more likely to turn to the game to fill that hole lol. Issue #149 is out this month, maybe they will announce season 2 after 149 comes out?

  • From what I can glean from interviews, Willingham has been supporting TWAU from the start of season 1. He has even been posting things on his twitter about TWAU--like game awards etc.

  • He absolutely loved the game!! He even reminds people that he didn't write the story, he merely consulted for it :D

I wonder if he'll post something like "Where is Season 2?"

  • Fables ending may not be all that it seems though...

Even though Willingham is calling it 'the end' on his Twitter, there are a few interviews where he has expressed a desire to return to the series if:

    A) The demand is high from fans, and fans have already started tweeting him asking for more Fables comics (which provoked a slightly annoyed response from him about how issue 150 isn't even out yet)

    B) If he thinks of more stories for the characters; which should be simple enough :P They're already literary characters, writing for them shouldn't be that hard right?

  • Or it could be the fact that Telltale has a lot on their plate at the moment with Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, Minecraft Story Mode, The Walking Dead Season 3 and their first original IP.

  • Well that is all speculation, and even so, the marketing aspect might still work, as 150 has been touted as the last Issue in the present series since at least 2013. Speaking of the present series, I personally think they should have tried for 200 issues. The remaining 50 issues could have eased people into the finale, the series has been chaotic (in a Daffy sort of way) since before Mr. Dark. A 150 page issue #150 is a bit much to take in one go.

As for more Fables stories, they might just try for some spinoffs, maybe some graphic novels set in the Fables universe. They might also try a reboot. I would like to see a Fables series that is more so on the micro side, focusing on Bigby as a detective etc.

  • I think the Minecraft game is a bad move, Minecraft has got nothing to do with narrative or characters... I'm not sure who would play such a Minecraft game--it seems like a risk to make it. It's odd that TWAU is not getting a season 2, as it seemed to do quite well and people really liked it... Though, I'm not privy to Telltales statistics on the matter. Perhaps TWAU was Telltale's worst selling game ever? Though in terms of prestige, it most certainly was not their worst reviewed.

  • His editor Shelly Bond wants to keep writing Graphic Novels even after issue 150 :)

Well look at the Hellblazer comics: 300 issues over the course of 23 years, and it got restarted as Constantine back in 2011 (though it's a prequel comic to Hellblazer)

Whether a new series of Fables is prequel or sequel material; so long as the original team takes up the work as they did before, it should be fine :D

  • TellTale didn't sign a multi-season contract with Vertigo like they did with Skybound for TWD...

MineCraft Story Mode I will play cuz I like MineCraft and I think TellTale can pull it off given their previous success :D

  • Zombie Apocalypse will come...

    And so will Season 2...

    I'm sure of it :D
