Hopefully this won't affect TWDG, TFTBL or GOT too much... GOT was supposed to be a multi-year, multi-title license, right? I'm worried this might exterminate a potential Season 2.
I've not understand.
In order to play each episode I've to watch 1.30h show?
Or it's just an interactive movie?
Can I just ignore the tv episode and play?
Can't really imagine people watching a scripted episode on Twitch.... I wouldn't know it it would be legal...
It means they are positioned with lionsgate to be part of several original ideas (intellectual properties) to produce a tv series, that will also go hand in hand with Telltale games. This was tried a long time ago by a game called Defiance, where the tv show would work hand in hand with the video game, but it was an immense failure. It just doesn't work, they are two different mediums and do not connect well together. TTG and Lionsgate feel differently.
There is a much larger problem. The newly announced TTG board of directors member from EA is a slime ball, he's only interested in making money, and is willing to sacrifice what makes the products great to gain more. Prepare yourself for micro-transactions, and more expensive game play. None of this news is good. It's all really bad news, and it's trying to be candy coated to look good -= it's not.
Oh no, not the straight white guys being upset, anyone but them.
Um, that's not the same. Because what you just gave is not a ridiculousl… morey overdone protagonist.
I could make a very long list of white straight male protagonists with dark hair and stubble. I don't think you could make a long list of playable straight girly-talking skinny white v-neck t-shirt wearing characters.
This seems really gimmicky. In the interview, Bruner says that they intend to eventually release the non-interactive portions as a stand-alone product (like on Netflix or something). So that means that the gameplay portions won't be integral to the overall story.
I'm definitely reading between the lines, but my suspicion is that Telltale is trying to reduce their workload. They'll be able to get away with making something like an hour long show and an hour's worth of gameplay instead of two hour's worth of gameplay. I'm taking that from Bruner's claim that the scheduling will be more predictable than Telltale's standard and that it will have more content than "a standard hour long television episode."
I'll definitely reserve judgement until I get to experience the thing. At the least, it should be well written because that's what Telltale excels at. But I don't get what restricting my involvement in a portion of the story adds to the experience. Maybe Bruner just did a bad job articulating it, but it really sounds like a step backwards.
Hmm...I'm intrigued. This seems...Innovative and interesting. I'm curious to see where this goes to say the least.
To say more on the other hand. I'm curious obviously I see people comparing it to Defiance which I can understand although this is different. I enjoyed the Defiance game, not the show on the other hand. The game was an MMO while this will be like Telltale's story driven games, I find that this will work better with a TV show. Even after I got bored with the show, I still played the game until I lost it.
Obviously Bloody Eugene brings up great questions...Will we have to watch the episode and more. These should be answered so we can understand how this whole project will work.
I'm going to pay close attention to this, now, when does this get it's own part of the Forums so we can discuss this better?
How integral does Telltale see the game and TV show portions of a Super Show being to one another? Can they be experienced on their own and remain satisfying?
Our goal is to create products that have a legitimate chance of winning both a Golden Globe and a Game of the Year. This means both aspects of the productions must be first class work.
Each Super Show episode [the interactive game and the scripted episode] will be released as a package designed so that you can consume the interactive portion or watch the scripted show portion in any order you’d like. For instance, if you play the interactive episode first, certain elements of the scripted episode portion will be tailored to reflect some choices made in your interactive play through. If you watch the show before playing, some elements in the interactive portions may be presented differently than if you played first. The interactive episodes will never release without a scripted episode, they will always come out together.
At some point, non-interactive episodes of the scripted content will become available as traditional TV-style episodes on streaming services and broadcast TV. While this obviously can’t deliver the interactivity, this version of the scripted episodes will still stand as completely satisfying top-quality television entertainment.

to co-develop existing and original IP into episodic games and television.
I could totally get behind an Alien TV show with the game following it. Stuff like that makes sense to me. But if the TV is just a copy of the game: No buy.
I just don't want to have to watch the show and play the game. The thing I like about Game of Thrones is that while set in the TV universe, I don't have to watch TV to understand it all. But this is like playing A New Day, Long Road Ahead, and then No Time Left skipping the rest. Doesn't click with me. Assuming I have to buy them separately, I probably won't so this. Cause that is just highway robbery.
However, I was glad to see that they aren't dropping the season formula.

I kinda get where you're coming from. Personally, I try not to think about it that way, but I think it has honestly become some sort of cliche, haha. XD Still, I'm fine with a white, straight, male protagonist if he's an interesting character.
I just think that white straight male main characters with brown hair and stubble have been done to death such that they're automatically slightly less interesting.
It's worth noticing that the other new BOD member is the Unity Technology CEO, John Riccitiello.
Given that 3d Unity Engine is capable to deliver on PC,Mac,PS,Xbox,Android and iOS, it's really possible it will be integrated in TT engine?
I hope there will be a massive graphic improvement soon....
Im only scared because it sounds like they are struggling with explaining the concept. Theres going to be a "show part" and a "not show part" which are all scripted, but unless you choose the other to be scripted, making the other not scripted. Like it already sounds confusing and we dont know a plot or anything ;-;

Here's my prediction of how the Super Show will work;
My prediction is that Lionsgate, Telltale, or whichever TV station is airing the series will host the TV portion of the series online with some streaming service similar to Netflix, and will offer players the option to sync their Telltale Games accounts to show variations of the Television show episodes that have a few "tailored" scenes that people will view based on choices they made in the Telltale game if they played it. Similar to a Telltale game, the overall story for the TV show episodes will be the same, but again just like a Telltale game, they will probably shoot several minor variations of scenes for TV shows that account for the consequences of different player choices. The player choices would be accessed from your Telltale Games account data. Episodes for the TV show will probably release in a larger quantity and much quicker than the Telltale episodes, and since Telltale episodes will be lesser in quantity, they will probably try to create more impactful player choices that can last for tailored scenes in multiple episodes of the TV show until Telltale can release their next episode. Despite this, I imagine they will try to synchronize releases of a new Telltale episode with a TV show episode as soon as they can.
If people don't buy the game, then they can just watch the show digitally with a default and/or randomized selection of tailored scenes for the TV show. If you only play the Telltale game, then... well... you only play the Telltale game and that's that.
Will Super Shows be the model for Telltale projects going forward, or is the plan to continue developing purely episodic games as well as Super Show seasons?
We plan to develop both formats going forward. Each one offers us a rich palette of storytelling tools and is engaging in different ways. We expect to have a healthy mix of both in our plans in the years ahead.
I figure any other future plans for purely episodic games will not be exterminated since they seem to want a balance of both. Especially Game of Thrones Season 2, due to their "multi-title, multi-year" deal you brought up.
Hopefully this won't affect TWDG, TFTBL or GOT too much... GOT was supposed to be a multi-year, multi-title license, right? I'm worried this might exterminate a potential Season 2.
I'm honestly very excited for this. It seems like half of it will be playable/interactive like their normal games and the other half will play out like a normal television show, with some minor changes based off of your decisions.
As long as they doesn't affect their normal episodic games, consider me very excited about this idea and their plans forward with it.
i saw this earlier... i dont understand it. i read it very fast but now im too lazy to re-read it again. so its gonna be an animated show..?? is it a game show...??? what the hell... please
It was based on Graham Annable's Grickle universe, but yeah, I'd love to see a new Puzzle Agent. Hopefully this new investment will bring cash into Telltale that will allow them to do some smaller niche games again.

Telltale and Lionsgate are teaming up to make an original franchise that will simultaneously have both its own Television show and Telltale game which will influence each other through player choices in the Telltale game. They are calling this new format "Super Show." If this works with Telltale's original IP, they might try this with other games based off of pre-existing franchises. Additionally, Lionsgate is investing a large amount of money into Telltale, which in the future might result in regular Telltale series based off of Lionsgate franchises.

As an original IP that would be cool. With the reboot of Star Trek and revamped continuation of Star Wars on the silver screen, I'd love to see one of those two franchises as a TellTale adventure game. Sadly, those franchises won't be coming anytime soon because they are owned by Paramount/CBS and Disney respectably, not Lionsgate. A guy can dream, right?
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Game of Thrones take place in an Anglo-Saxon themed world? So isn't everyone going to be white because everyone in the upper half of Europe during the Anglo-Saxon period were white and that was all they knew; fair skinned people? I mean, that's what I learned in history and English literature during college.

That doesn't seem to be in line with what Bruner was saying. He specifically says that each episode will consist of a game and a television episode released simultaneously. Funny you mention that, I am in fact learning about the fall of the Anglo-Saxons to William the Conqueror.
It's more based on medieval Europe in general, but I don't think that's where they get the skin coloration in. Essos has far more dark-skinned people than Westeros. Assuming George R. R. Martin took inspiration of Europe, I'd imagine he used Scandinavia as his inspiration for them, and for Essos those who lived in places like Italy and Spain, along with Northern Africa I'd imagine.

Agreed
Behhh
It's unlikely that anyone will be enjoying equally both sides of the coin, the scripted and the interactive, so probably one will drag down the other.
I really would have preferred a normal TTG tailored experience made in Full Motion Video with real actors like a tv series instead of 3d models.
That would've really made my day.

Here's a link to the interview:

Well, that's kinda racist, sexist and heterophobic, coming from a guy who claims to hate all those things.
Thank you again Dojo, although it was in the OP. :P

I was hoping to find out what original IP they are working on, but I think this new episodic model announcement more than makes up for it.
Still, though, I can't help but wonder about how quickly Telltale will be able to release episodes.
I kinda get where you're coming from. Personally, I try not to think about it that way, but I think it has honestly become some sort of cliche, haha. XD Still, I'm fine with a white, straight, male protagonist if he's an interesting character.
