Attractive protagonists

So it seems like Telltale always give us good looking protagonists to play,I assume this is to make the players more interested to the game,do you think the game will be popular as it is if we play as ugly lard cake like Ludd Whitehill or sickly old man like Larry? how much do you think the looks of the protagonists will be a factor for the game's popularity?

People playing the game for escapism feel better about themselves if their avatar is attractive.

It's a bit lame, but it is what it is.

  • u don't see that as a problem? I kind of do. When i made my dragon age inquestion character, i purposely cut his face up, because no one is flawless.

I don't see why we can't have more games like the cat lady which is really good btw if you haven't played it.

  • You obviously haven't seen my Saints Row character then.

  • Well, I'd rather look at a decent looking fella/lady for hours on end than something less pleasant.

  • Scars can be sexy, I like guys rough around the edges

  • People can find beauty in anyone really. What YOU may consider ugly could be attractive to someone else. You could see one of the most butt-ass ugly protagonists in a video game, but I'm sure someone somewhere out there in this big dumb world of ours they will find this person good-looking. All a matter of taste.

    Theoretically true, bollocks in pratice.

While people have different tastes, there is an 'ideal' as perpetuated by society. There aren't equal numbers of people attracted to different things.

For example, far more people will find Bigby attractive than Tweedle Dum.

I think women with tats are extremely attractive. I've always had a think for females when they can still look good even after decently covered up and don't need to show cleavage and legs, I don't mind, but something about keeping yourself humble is quite beautiful to me. And just look at her hair, perfect.

  • She might be covered up but she does look like shes wearing bondage

  • I do prefer to play good looking protagonists but that's more in action games and RPGs, in this kind of game I don't think I mind how the character looks just so long as they are interesting to use, I'm kinda surprised that you don't get to use anyone that's ugly or even just fat though considering they had so many protagonists in GoT, for example Eternal Darkness had 11 playable characters and 2 were fat guys, 1 was an old priest, 1 looked like a damned zombie and another one was a fairly regular looking psychiatrist or psychologist I don't remember, I really liked his voice though, but anyway the only character that I didn't like playing as in that game was the half naked sexy girl because she felt so out of place, I was kinda surprised they didn't do something like that in GoT.

  • I know what it was referring to, that was my point: telltale tends to make their playable characters the most attractive, so that people get an ego boost by playing as them.

It's easier to emphatize with attractive characters also people unconsciously relate attractive with good and ugly with bad. Just think about this i you saw two characters, one is attractive and the other ugly, whithout knowing anything of them and their franchise, which would you think is the hero of the story?

  • Its not an ego boost as much as hardly anyone will pick up something that isn't appealing to the eye, especially a designated playable character that you can't change how they look.

  • Not always.

Scott Shelby from Heavy Rain was more well received as a playable character despite being a grizzled overweight man in his forties-fifties among a cast of attractive men and women in their twenties and thirties, with one of them being referenced off from a professional model.

I actually find Commander Shepard (Female) to be the most attractive gaming protagonist. Great shape, face, voice and personality.

I also consider her the best protagonist overall in any game. Because her romances are much better from her male counterpart ( #GarrusMasterRace), she is able to kick some ass (The Shadow Broker and James Vega being the two most notable), is fun to play as (I actually went Paragon), is able to be shaped well and most importantly not much changes if you play Shepard female apart from the romances and the stripper comment from the Merc Recruiter in Omega.

In my opinion there is only one Commander Shepard and her name is Jane.

I hope this isn't to off-topic but it does link in to attractive protagonists.

As for Telltale, their most attractive PROTAGONIST would probably be-

    Female-Fiona

Male-Rodrick and Bigby (Lee a close third).

However if we don't just do protagonists then-

Female-TWD-Molly, TWAU-Bloody Mary (then Nerissa and Snow), TFTB-Still Fiona, GOT-Elena and Gwyn (Lady Forestter looks good for her age too).

    Male-TWD-Lee, Luke, Kenneth TWAU-Bigby, TFTB-Rhys? GOT-Rodrick the Ruined
