The 5 Best American States?

edited March 2015 in General Chat

Hey guys I have a kind of simple question.. what is the best (top 3, 5 or 10) States in the USA in your opinion. And if you've never been to the USA what states do you want to go to? and if you dont know any states what type of climates and people do you prefer (I can figure out what state you'd like). I'm Canadian but i've been to about 15 states and the whole state thing is really interesting, each state is like its own country.. everyone has a unique quality that no other has. Anyways I want your opinion because i'm planning a trip to America and want to know which one you guys think is the best? Anyways heres my list:

5th. California

I think California is kind of overrated, but Death Valley, San Francisco, and LA are really beautiful. I drove through all of California and has like 4 different climates which is really cool. California also has a really unique culture, people there are pretty hip and modern, the weather is also amazing.. but lots of people constantly talk and I had huge expectations so thats probably why its the 5th best for me.

4th. New York

I feel bad putting New York on my list because I only actually went to New York City (Which feels a little cheap) I don't know what the rest of New York is like but NYC was a really awesome experience. I found really at home in New York City its really like a Canadian city.. I found the people really nice there and I heard some really bad things about the citizens. I'd really love to go back to New York City and also see some of the other parts of New York that most tourists dont go to.

3th. Alaska

Alaska is fucking beautiful, the glaciers there are so amazing and the economy feels really local (which makes me like it). I went on a cruise ship and Alaska feels like going back 100 years in the past. There is civilization but not nearly as much as all the other states the amount of nature I found incredible.. I didnt go to Anchorage which is disappointing but hopefully i'll go there soon. In Alaska I saw Orca whales, some seals chilling in the water, a bear, lots of deer and etc.

2nd. Oregon

Okay so i was really debating on wether to put Oregon 2nd or 3rd but i've decided on 2nd because of Crater lake. Portland is such a green, friendly modern city and it has so many awesome features. Okay so Crater lake (which I mentioned), Painted hills, all the trees (Theres only about a trillion trees in Oregon) I found everyone really kind. Oregon has great city life and outdoorsy life, i'd recommend it to anybody.

1st. Montana

Okay so im a little biased, I was technically born in Montana (lived there for a solid month).. but ive actually only gone twice.. i've been to Washington and California more than I have been to Montana. Montana has outstanding nature, everywhere you go there theres something interesting, in Western Montana theres the rockies and to the east theres plains. Theres so many wild animals in Montana and it has two really amazing national parks (Glacier & Yellowstone). I have one complaint though, the people weren't always the nicest especially to all the other states I compared.

  • My favorite is Illinois, because I live there. Even though this place is a shit hole kinda, lol.

I went to the Chicago airport for about two hours (If that even counts xD) and the airport was huge as hell but really nice and clean.

I haven't even been to half of the US States yet (but I'm aiming to hit them all. I'm getting a collection of myself standing in front of all of the US State signs and I'm currently 1/5 of the way there).

My favorites so far have been Massachussets, Maine, California, South Carolina, and New York (I really don't like living here, but it's got a lot to do, and it's amazing how different upstate New York is from New York City - if you come to New York, you really owe it to yourself to visit both the city and head in towards the Southern Tier or north towards Albany as it's like night and day).

  • As a resident of the state of New Jersey, I have a small bias to this state. We have some problems, but it's not bad living here, I live like 45 minutes from NYC so that's not bad.

Arizona is great, me and my family have gone their a few times for vacation. Last time we went to see the Grand Canyon, there are beautiful golf courses there, and after the winter we've had hear in New Jersey, I'd like to live somewhere that's warm.

I've been there once, but with all of it's history, I have to say Massachusetts is also up there. I love studying U.S. History (I even got to go to a U.S. history competition down in D.C. last year) and it was in Massachusetts where the movement to declare our independence from Great Britain started. Events like the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and Lexington and Concord are some of the most significant moments in U.S. history.

I've been to about half of the states but One really want to check out is Alaska.

  • I'm just gonna say Idaho because I live there, every other state I've been to has been even more trashy than this place.

  • I went through Coeur d'alene and it was so beautiful, wish I actually stayed in Idaho.

  • I don't know, haven't been to all of them. But the worst state is obviously New Mexico.

  • If you want to stay in Idaho just stay away from Garden City.

  • Not obviously to me, but then, I used to live there.

    Nice things about New Mexico:

    • Has both mountains and deserts, and they all have their own kinds of beauty.
    • Awesome food if you like it spicy!
    • Balloon Festival.
    • Santa Fe Opera if you're into that kind of thing. :)
    • Some other interesting celebrations, like the burning of Zozobra, Old Man Gloom.
    • Farolitos/Luminarias at Christmas. Entire city streets are lined with them in some places.
    • Carlsbad Caverns
    • Los Alamos, where the atomic bomb was developed and now the home of a National Lab, is its own interesting place.
    • That UFO thing in Roswell.
    • And, of course, there are some places where instead of it looking like the gas station has a liquor section, it looks like the liquor store put some gas pumps out front.

Really, not that bad. The only state I've never been able to think of an excuse to go to is Wyoming.

I don't know, haven't been to all of them. But the worst state is obviously New Mexico.

I've never been to the US before, but I'm going by what I know.

    5: California

    4: Colorado

    3: Nevada

    2: Alaska

    1: Oregon

  • I'm from South Jersey, and naturally I prefer South Jersey. The whole ridiculousness of the Jersey Shore sprung up, but looking beyond that the shore is still a great place. I particularly like Cape May, but when I go fishing it's usually out of Sea Side.

I also really enjoyed Massachusetts; my cousin and I went on a few deep sea fishing trips out of Gloucester that were particularly good. The Poconos in Pennsylvania is one of my favorite places I've ever been, so I visit there a lot. Michigan was a nice state, full of nice scenery and people. As for the final mention on the list, I'd have to say Vermont.

I'm not a person that likes cities, and in my opinion New York, at least around the city, is a hellhole. That hellhole goes right into Connecticut.

    So, in numerical order:

    1. New Jersey
    2. Pennsylvania
    3. Massachusetts
    4. Michigan
    5. Vermont

As a resident of the state of New Jersey, I have a small bias to this state. We have some problems, but it's not bad living here, I live lik

  • Chicago is one of the few good/exciting things that come out of a corrupt state like Illinois. The rest is just eh.

I'd say Illinois would be the first spot on the list for me, since I live there too. Plus, Chicago has a plethora of cool places to visit and see, so there's that!

Second would be Wisconsin, since it's closest and I've been there and the Dells a whole lot. And finally, Florida, simply because of the many awesome Disney World vacations I had.

Any New England states and Pennslyvania, I like those places. The south is shit, (VA Beach is excluded from this, but it is the only exception.) the midwest states are boring as fuck wastelands, (I should know I live here) and I don't know exactly what to complain about in regards to the west coast so who cares.

  • Lol, you couldn't buy booze in my hometown until 2008. That said, you could go 15 minutes to the next town over... but still. Fun lesson in politics, the local grocery store lobbied Town Hall to stop the ban on alcohol.

  • I say exclude North Carolina too. Not only the research triangle, but still, North Carolina is a nice place to live.

For the West, complain about California, you know the Valley Girl stereotypes? THEY EXIST o_O
