Panel Breakdown By Blind Sniper
General Summary:
Super Shows
Kevin Bruner talks a little about Super Shows, explains that "every month or so" you get a Playable Telltale Episode and a 40 minute TV Show Episode, possibly extra "software consumables" as a cryptic hint.
- Host asks about how the system didn't work with Defiance, Kevin responds they've been working on it for more than a year, Genesis of the idea grounded in how to use the medium to tell the best story they could - not how you can "put two ideas together."
Job says people have been asking when Telltale would do an original property, Telltale will be doing a Super Show with Lionsgate at some point but the first Super Show will be with someone else - not Lionsgate.
- Kevin says the more Lionsgate saw what they were doing with the Super Show, the more they clicked with each other.
Host says "Defiance let me down as it was two separate things," Job says the show and the game were two different things, but Job says Telltale games are already "interactive shows/Movies" and that games rely on cinematic presentation. "Developing a game/TV show with same language" is a big part of the difference. People will "be used to the language we are using for "story telling in games."
Tales from the Borderlands: Atlas Mugged (Episode 2)
- Job plays the trailer for the Episode 2 panel again.
Job said he followed Telltale for 10 years before applying for his job in 2012. References classic games like Sam and Max, Monkey Island, Wallace and Gromit, Strong Bad, Poker Night series.
- Games weren't always as heavy as Walking Dead, etc.
- At VGX 2012, Telltale and Gearbox talk about Walking Dead's success, eventually leading to Tales from the Borderlands months later
Lots of people were confused about the game at first, but Telltale saw it as an interesting opportunity and saw potential in the deep backstory of the series.
Minecraft: Story Mode
- At GDC last year, Telltale met Mojang as Telltale was "internally obsessed with Minecraft." They met at a bar, and talked about making a Minecraft game.
- Writer from Mojang joins the panel.
- Story Mode, "like a lot of things from Telltale, came from internal fandom of Minecraft" at Telltale.
- This will be a Telltale game that "could only be told in the world of Minecraft."
Host asks if this will be original or if it will take place in Minecraft - writer says it "won't be a story about Steve/etc, but it will be in the world of Minecraft. Expect your favorite mobs, but not Steve."
- "Lots of people are excited to use Minecraft to tell stories" on servers in the community, etc.
Host asks about user content, Kevin says "we don't do the game of the movie. New characters are created as we want you to determine your own characters. Steve can be whoever you want him to be, but we want you to use new characters. The Minecraft world will be our palette."
Mojang writer - "Everyone in the office is a huge Telltale fan, it was a good opportunity for us."
- "Everyone is reaching out to us to expand Minecraft universe."
- Kevin Bruner - "Minecraft is a huge phenomenon, Telltale and Mojang met at an event 'like this' and talked at the end of that afternoon. They are bombed with everybody wanting to work with them."
- The "Story Mode" name idea came from Mojang, the logo for the game was made only two days before the game was publicly announced.
Telltale cannot give ETA for the game at this time.
- Being really big fans of the series they work on helps them make the games.
- Mojang is impressed with how hard working Telltale is.
Fan Q&A
- Telltale uses "a fairly straightforward writing room process - lots of post its on the wall"
- Telltale tries to invite the people behind a franchise into the creation process.
- Telltale doesn't know at what point Season 3 come out, but teases that perhaps you will still see more Walking Dead "sooner" - perhaps teasing another DLC Episode like 400 Days.
- Telltale doesn't work on franchises due to how mature they are - they want to focus on interactive story telling, and like to tell stories from franchises they are fans of.

So other than Kevin Bruner, do we know any of the other panel members that will be present?
Job Stauffer, Kevin Boyle, and Pierre Shorette. There might be others but they are the only Telltale names listed on the schedule page http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_IAP996675

Sounds interesting. From what I hear on Twitter, they seem to be teasing news about Minecraft and possibly Walking Dead: Season 3, which is really exciting!
They just tweeted to ask us to tweet them questions which they might answer at the panel:
