Music and people
Do you think that musical taste is a result of the surroundings?
I've met some people that like rap for example and when i ask why They say:" i don't know, everyone where i live also like rap" (Not that i have something against rap, it's just an example),
Also do you think that music helps shaping people's personality either in a negative or positive way?

Well I think music mostly has a positive effect (I know it does for me, anyway). And I don't think its a result of surroundings but just a matter of people's tastes?
For me, music is more to do with being relatable to it, I guess our emotions impact what genre of songs we listen to. I always see people feeling sad listening to music about heartbreaks and death, people who feel angry listen to songs about backstabbing and evil stuff, people who exercise listen to songs that get them energized, usually songs with quick beats. But I can see how the type of song we listen to can be determined by where we grew up, I mean a song can mean nothing to someone but if that song is sung during an important time in their life, they'll most likely cherish it.
I think so, i was raised in a Italian family. I wasn't listening to rap growing up, and i don't listen to it now. IMO rap music perpetuates racism, but that is another debate altogether. I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra, or Chet Baker.
Nah, I've discovered most of the music I like just by youtubing and googling.
I grew up in a large town near london with no music scene whatsoever - that has no relation to my interest in alternative rock and RiotGrrrl.
I think the music we're interested in is both influenced by our personality - for example I, as someone who does literature academia as their main job, am interested only in music which has artistic meaning to it shown by its lyrics - and in turn this can influence our personalities - I was always interested in feminism but Riot Grrrl turned my interest into passion.
It changes.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when, the main way people heard music was on the radio. So what you liked usually matched with whichever radio station you liked best. Bands tried their hardest to sound like other popular bands in whatever era they were in, with occasional sensations that sounded different yet still found popularity.
These days, radio is much less relevant, which is partly the fault of the corporations now owning most of the radio stations, but times have also moved on and made different kinds of music much more accessible to everyone. I don't have the same sort of experience in this era, but I bet musical influences are now shared socially as much as any other way. Heck, people post songs here on the Telltale Games Forums to random strangers as a way of sharing things that they like.
Does music shape personality? Or does someone's personality shape the music they prefer? Groups will argue one way or the other on this. You could ask the same about video games, as many have. I personally think people have so many influences that you can't really trace any personality shapers to anything in particular. Parents and peer groups are the big ones.
Yeah, i have to agree with you, i don't really have a favorite musical genre, but i've found that depending on my mood i listen to different music
I grew up right outside of and went to school in the ghetto, where listening to anything other than rap was practically considered a crime. Even so, I hate rap. I listen to heavy metal and classical in about equal measures.
It depends on the individual some people do whatever there peers do others have individuality
Only to a limited degree, a lot of my friends had similar music tastes back in the day, but that's because we were a bunch of angsty teenagers with teenage angst listening to angsty, angtsy music... ... ... angst.
On the other hand, I personally like Korean dance music, which is probably on the exact opposite of the angst scale.
There was a lot of angst in your life xD
