Cool idea?

What are your guys thoughts on having a "multiplayer" storydriven game that adapts around the choices you make? For example: Imagine playing TWD with another player, making choices throughout the game, choosing whether or not to side with them in a certain situation. This would no doubt be very difficult to implement and would definetly take a lot of effort to achieve, but its not impossible. It could be possible if it was kind of set up like TFTBL with the two protagonist feature, instead of controlling both characters, players could choose their character to play as a two player story mode.

If done correctly, it may very well add a new element for choice storydriven games. Now i know what your probably thinking, Telltale's games, have only been singleplayer only and singleplayer games are better known for engrossing people into the story. This without a doubt is true and should never change, (My opinion) but as i said before if multiplayer can be done correctly, it's definetly something that i would want to experience. What about you?

  • They can't even make single player choices matter yet, so I'd rather they really try and make that work.

That's understanderble. When i think of "Choices matter?" I think of it as main points in the game mattering, meaning that majority of the choices are action based, with the exception of having some dialogue options that affects the story in some way.

I can understand, "how it can easily feel like" your choices really don't matter for certain parts of the game, but in all honesty they do alter the games story.

  • You've probably noticed that most multi-player games aren't like Telltale's because people have different schedules and play at different speeds. You'd have to wait at times for the other player to show up or make a move, and that would get annoying after a while. A multi-player adventure that isn't just about fighting or card games or the like would need to find some way to overcome this challenge.

  • I've been laughing at your comment for like a minute now. That's beautifully accurate.

  • Its wierd this has come up because I was thinking just last night that jumanji would make a good telltale game but I was thinking of one player seeing it from various perspectives, multiplayer would be better

  • :) Tbh, Telltale's games storytelling catches my attention the most, the choices are just an added feature for connecting more with the story and the characters.

  • Yes that definitely makes sense. I was thinking of maybe having the option of invite only with friends, instead of online matchmaking. That way, you can experience the game together, which could be a possible fix for the pacing of players, because you can choose the person you play with instead of someone random.

But then again, this still may not be a full solution to this problem.

I rememeber jumanji, that was quite a film in it's day. That would be an interesting game to see telltale make, however it is an old film, and telltale are kinda currently making games from today's genre. In my opinion, they could create something good out of just about anything.

The choices do matter, allot of choices do but that doesn't mean they're groundbreaking and going to create a whole new plot just so people won't complain.

  • Of course, most choices are definetly noticable to altering the story. I personally would never complain about the choices, for not being groundbreaking. Some people expect every choice and dialogue option to affect the story, and in my opinion that would be pretty saltlicking to my head xD

No they dont. At all. I like the games but choice doesnt matter at all, I do make choices based on what I would really do but still.

I'd honestly like in this new generation that people actually try to make games where there are dramatic changes in the plot, thats the next step.

Great find m8. It does kinda match what i was talking about. I would love to see something like this with a telltale game, with the episodic, point and click element.

Only thing is the multiplayer seems to be seperate from the story mode, and the story itself is mostly quest related, but then again it is a MMO.

I want to see a game that has a linear story, but the choices from both players can alter the story and AI character development.

From what i can see about the "choose your own path" slogan, it is not a 2 player story mode. "Your own storydriven Star Wars saga" this just shouts "singleplayer". :)

It doesn't really match "my description" of a storydriven multiplayer game. But nevertheless nice recommendation.

  • They certainly put an influence on choice, despite it not affecting the story overall very much. Though I definitely agree with you, it's storytelling where they really shine.

Either way, it's TellTale, so they do a phenomenal job every time.
