Upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger film Maggie looks more than a little inspired by The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic PlayStation masterpiece.

Arnie plays a bearded, flannel shirt-wearing father who must protect his daughter during a zombie epidemic.

His daughter, Maggie, played by Little Miss Sunshine and Zombieland's Abigail Breslin, is picked up by her dad from a hospital and the pair then go on the run.

One major difference in Maggie is that Arnie's daughter is infected - and starting to look more than a little peaky, as the trailer below shows.

  • I wouldn't so much as say inspired as I would saw it is a total rip off.

  • Not really, I mean Father and child in an apocalypse isnt all that uncommon (joel and ellie are not that).

Civilization seems more solid here than the last of us.

One of the main characters being "immune" is pretty much the trope of zombie fiction; and in this case this girl's immunity (if is even that) doesnt seem to be anything like ellie's who shows no signs of infection.

  • I don't think she's immune, she's just slowly turning throughout this movie.

  • seems like a little boring to me.

  • "Arnold Schwarzenegger is superb"

    Cameron Bailey 2015

  • Maybe it'll be slightly original if the main character decides to shoot his companion for once.

    Maybe.

  • Eh you say that like the last of us started this trend

Yeah, The Road is definitely a notable example of this, and a good read as well.

  • Terrible read*

    Fixed that for you.

  • [Shrugs] I thought it was pretty good, anyways.

  • I disagree. Well, sort of. It was a fantastic book. But it was a terrible read in the sense that it was probably the most emotionally exhausting thing ever.

  • I just hate that it is still printed on paper. Plenty of room for terrible stories on the web, no need to kill trees for such writing. At least use it on something remotely worth reading, like printed Family Feud episodes or poetry by a 2 year old.

  • I didn't even find it emotional. It was so void of any emotion, actually. You can't drain something that isn't there. At that point it was just a pointless walk down a road to no where, which forgettable characters, forgettable setting, and forgettable events. I just wish I could forget having wasted my time sitting down to read it.

  • Wow that trailer! That looks like such a fantastic take on the zombie genre. The all so slow degrading of a loved one and the tough calls you need to take. So far in the zombie genre the turning is merely a means to an end, something that takes place only to give you a zombie or to show the effects of losing a loved one after they have turned into a zombie. I can't wait to see this! High hopes!

It didn't, TWDG did, for games at least.

So you say Arnold Kdlsfjlskjf is playing a role in the movie?

This looks awesome I don't think it's a rip off of tlou post apocalyptic zombies is a pretty common theme

I loved tlou and twd the whole father,,child type of relationship I just care about the quality of the film tbh and from seeing this it looks awesome and I'm so excited :D

Exacly what the story was about, describing the hopelessness, stupor and perdition of human being who lived after the end of the world, when there was nothing which may deter the world from dying in front of you, when you're forced to fight with yourself to remain humanity, maintaining the illusion of a goal at the end of the road, even though there's none.

It's not about characters, how they looked, what they wore, how many years they had. The author didn't even bother to give them any names. There's about a relationship between father and son, a metaphor of the boundless love in the emptiness of the apocalypse.

  • The trailer was so ridiculously shoddy.

  • I'd actually probably see this. I like Arnie. There. I said it. Plus, Arnold Schwartzenegger in a movie trailer? Have to post this:

  • Point and case. There was nothing to the story aside from "keep walking, don't die." The only gesture I sort of enjoyed was when the father found the soda and gave it to the son. The rest was just, again, a boring and hopeless walk down a road to no where. I might as well have read a book written by the hands of a dead guy, there would have been as much interest with that.

  • That was the point of the story. They were all dead in some way, weren't they? I can't even imagine being in the same place as those people, can you? Just your thoughts to accompany you while starving to death. “You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget.” I admire this nameless Father, I really do. Being so psychically strong among people killing and eating themselves in order to protect a poor child who had the misfortune to be born in this world. If I were a parent, this movie would probably affect me even more than now. Simplicity of this movie it's the greatest asset here.

  • They weren't dead, they were walking. I can imagine it, and it's extremely tedious and a lousy story. I could write about someone running out of oxygen alone in a tiny pod in space and include nothing except the nameless character sitting on a seat and looking at a timer tick down to 0. Hopelessness doesn't make a good story. Do I admire what the father stood for? Sure, defending your child is an interesting trope, doesn't make the story better.

  • That...actually looks good. What is going on? Arnie in a good non-action movie?

  • Perhaps a little.
But I don't think that it is directly inspired by the game.
The way to be sure, is to see it when it comes to theaters.

  • Oh Yeah, I heard about this a while ago, I was surprised at first that Arnold was gonna be in something like this but I don't think it'll be too bad or anything, I might even go see it, idk.

  • WHAT THE F%@K! WHY I HAVEN'T I SEEN THIS BEFORE????
